Caring for a loved one with dementia?

Seniors who are living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia require special care.
So do their caregivers.

Caring for a Senior with Dementia

We know that dementia is stressful to care for.
![Page 6: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
When your loved one has Alzheimer’s or any other form of dementia, all the
rules get thrown out.
![Page 7: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
It’s not like caring for COPD, a heart attack, or a stroke.
You need specialized care to try to mitigate the amount of stress that you’re going
through.
![Page 8: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
It’s just a different animal.

Live With Them in the Moment
![Page 10: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
At Care to Continue, we’ve learned that with
Alzheimer’s and dementia, our solutions cannot be
ordinary.
![Page 11: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
One of the things that we’ve learned is that when you have a loved one with a
cognitive impairment, you have to actually live with
them in the moment.
![Page 12: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
One of the things that we typically want to do when
they say things that are real to them but we know aren’t
true, is to respond with,
![Page 13: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
“Oh no, Mom, that’s not really happening to you.”
![Page 14: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
We have learned instead that we have to train our caregivers, through role
play and other strategies, to live in the moment with
your loved one.
![Page 15: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
This will actually reduce their anxiety level.
![Page 16: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
It Starts With You
![Page 17: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
The other part of the solution is that we
understand that as an informal caregiver, we have to help you take really good
care of yourself.
![Page 18: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
What we have gotten really good at is what we call our
Family Care Coaching program,
![Page 19: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
where we coach you and your family through some of the most difficult decisions as you deal with a family member suffering from
Alzheimer’s and dementia.
![Page 20: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Specialized Dementia Care
![Page 21: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
As a family member, caring for a loved one with
dementia or Alzheimer’s, you need a break from the
stressfulness of the situation.
![Page 22: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
Care to Continue provides specialized dementia
respite care to meet that need.
![Page 23: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
Our caregivers are not only rigorously screened and
interviewed,
![Page 24: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
but beyond that we do a specialized dementia
training program so that they are well equipped to
care for the needs that your loved one has.
![Page 25: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
Again, this is not the same as other medical issues..
![Page 26: Care to Continue Presentation Dementia](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022052907/55906a0c1a28ab55488b457e/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
