The surroundings of the town…

An Introduction to the School

☼ It was opened in 1940

☼ It is a free Private School serving 250 children.

☼ The children who attend Primary are from 4 to 12 years old.

☼ The School is set in a rural area with families working in neighbouring agricultural and dairy farms

☼ Most of the kid’s parents have incomplete schooling and work very long hours

☼ During the week, some children live with older brothers or sisters and others, only with their mother

☼ In many cases, attending School is the only means of having contact with culture and media, since they do not have any books, newspapers, TV or any electronic appliances available at home.

☼ In some cases the kids show problems in behaviour and learning difficulties, caused by poor nutrition, poor health and hygiene conditions, as well as violence and marginalization in their families

☼ Another important fact is that there is a low % of recurrence (repetition) thanks to the efforts of the teachers

The way they play, share, have fun and learn…

They try to encourage sports as an effective way

of playing and sharing team spirit and good values

The school’s dinning room: An important place for the

children

They provide breakfast, lunch and dinner to 120 children For most of them, it is the only food they have in the day.

How they work how they play and socialize…

WORKSHOPS

Wicker crafts

English classes

They have different workshops:Music, crafts, English, after-school activities

“Thank you CDL Parents for thinking in

us!!!...”

How and why they would welcome CDL’ PSA donation:

They want to create a Learning Training Centre

where the children can stay after school to have a place where they can find books, encyclopaedias, maps, audiovisual materials, TV – DVD, playful mathematical films, table games, Computer, Internet access

It is important in order to create a good environment for learning, since their homes are not very good at that!

CONCRETE PURPOSE OF DONATION FROM THE PSA CHARITY COMMITEE

Plumbing and sanitations repairs (at the moment the situation is critical because of water shortages or flooding, leakages)

Playground repairs. It is damaged due to poor drainage, erosion, use, and the insistent presence of ants and termites.

New heaters (at the moment the classrooms are heated by old gas stoves, very risky to children’s health). An upgrade of them is proposed. Other places such as the dinning room are not heated at all. Winters are hard in Uruguay, temperatures can reach below O centigrade.

Sports equipment for the children. They encourage sport activities among all the children since they are small, and coming from vulnerable households. Usually they have to play with rudimentary equipment, sometimes even made from recycled materials. Hence we would invest in new and upgraded tools to stimulate the children in sports activities.
