The CCR City Deal is…

• a partnership with the Welsh Government and 10 local authorities

• a unique programme of collaborative working between public sector,

industry and academia which will enable economic change,

improved digital and physical connectivity, improved skills and

educational opportunities, and regeneration across the region

• an investment in our people

The CCR City Deal aims to…

• leverage £4bn of additional private investment

• create 25,000 new high skilled jobs in industries of the future

• grow GVA in the region by 5% over the next 15 years

• promote inclusive economic growth across the region

• transform the UK’s capability and help position CCR as the European leader in

Compound Semi-Conductor (CSC) applications

• prioritise interventions that supported development of internationally-competitive CSC

cluster

The CCR City Deal is currently…

• investing £730m in a state of the art multi-modal public transit

system ‘the Metro’

• bringing together innovation in energy, skills, digital and

transport in a Metro Plus programme

compound on silicon wafer fab are the Core of the CS Cluster

• Providing manufacturing services for the world’s first CS Cluster and the wider global foundry market

• Targeted investment continues to attract major global companies to region

• Strategic investment into the core, unlocks & attracts high value supply chain and inward investment opportunities all across the region

• Tied into major research projects in Cardiff & Swansea Universities

The CCR City Deal has invested in and supported…

• the world’s first Compound Semiconductor cluster complete with

IQE’s mega foundry - the world’s largest outsource CS epi facility

• a UK-Government-backed applications-based Catapult Centre

• the Compound Semiconductor Institute and the CSC Centre,

attracting hundreds of millions of pounds worth of investment

• All positioned in Wales and the Cardiff Capital Region

A strong and growing CS presence• IQE plc as specialist CS producer in the region

• Newport Wafer Fab as integrated silicon and CoS wafer fab

• Focused and growing supply chain presence in the region and Wales

• Over £270m of tactical and strategic investments in CS R&D:

• Institute of CSC – early stage R&D – IQE partnership with WG and Cardiff University

• CSC Centre of Excellence –prototyping – IQE and Cardiff University

• Applications based Catapult Centre – led by Innovate UK

• Centre for Integrative Semiconductor materials – materials foundry at Swansea University

• Has included investment from sources such as WG, WEFO, UK Research Partnership, EPSRC, SerCymru, HEFCW, Cardiff University and Innovate UK

• Setting aside state aid intervention – IPCEI (Important Projects of Common European Interest) EC exemption secured
