Dinagat IslandOn February 11, 2010

the Supreme Court of the Philippines declared the creation of Dinagat Islands Province null and void on grounds of failure to meet land area and population requirements for the creation of

local government units.

Agusan del NorteAgusan was first referred to by its

Malay settlers as “agasan”, a word in the dialect meaning “where water

flows”. This alluded to the presence of a mighty river that traversed the whole area. With the coming of the Spanish conquistadores, the area

where flowed a mighty river came to be known as “Agusan” to the

civilized world.

Agusan del Sur is essentially linked with that of its sister province, Agusan del

Norte, for most of their historical existence, they were but one

province under one governor or under one local civil government.
