Los verbos reflexsivos – The Reflexive Verbs
When you conjugate a reflexive verb, you take off the “se” on the end of the verb. You change
the verb like you usually do (ex. take off –ar and then add the correct ending to match the
subject pronoun) but you also need to include “me, te, le, nos, os, les” before the verb. The “me,
te, le, nos, os, les” must match the subject pronoun!
So let's break this down into 4 steps (using “bañarse” as an example)
1. Take off the "se" on the end of the verb (bañarse - se = bañar)
2. Take off the "ar", "er" or "ir" (bañar - ar = bañ)
3. Add the correct ending to match the subject pronoun. (Just like you did for regular
verbs) [Yo baño]
4. Now add the correct reflexive pronoun (me, te, se, nos, os, se) in front of the changed
verb. (Yo me baño = I bathe myself)

lastimarse – to hurt oneself
Yo me lastimo Nosotros nos lastimamos
Tú te lastimas Vosotros os lastimáis
Él, Ella, Usted (Ud.) se lastima Ellos, Ellas, Ustedes (Uds.) se lastiman
caerse – to fall (down)
Yo me caigo Nosotros nos caemos
Tú te caes Vosotros os caéis

caerse (Past tense) ↓
Yo me caí Nosotros nos caímos
Tú te caíste Vosotros os caísteis
Él, Ella, Usted (Ud.) se cayó Ellos, Ellas, Ustedes (Uds.) se cayeron
ponerse (mal) – to become sick
Yo me pongo mal Nosotros nos ponemos mal
Tú te pones mal Vosotros os ponéis mal

El Verbo Doler
Doler (to hurt, to ache) is a verb that is used just like gustar. When using the verb to
indicate that something is hurting, you use the definite articles (el, la, los, las).
If more than ONE thing is hurting, you MUST add a ‘n’ to the end of the verb:
Me duelen los pies.
Te duelen los dedos.
Le duelen las piernas.
Nos duelen los ojos.
Os duelen los brazos.
Les duelen las rodillas.
¿Qué te duele? – What hurts? (friend)
¿Qué le duele? – What hurts? (formal)
Using the notes above, write 6 sentences about a body part that is hurting you. Three
sentences should use “Me duele” and 3 sentences should use “Me duelen”.
Me duele
1. ________________________________________________________________
2. ________________________________________________________________
3. ________________________________________________________________
