Remember Ezekiel's Prophecies“Thou also, son of man, take thee a tile, and lay it before thee, and

portray upon it a city, even Jerusalem: and lay siege against it, and build forts against it, and cast up a mound against it; set camps also against it, and plant battering rams against it round about.”

“Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I, even I, am against thee; and I will execute judgments in the midst of thee in the sight of the nations. A third part of thee shall die with the pestilence, and with famine shall they be consumed in the midst of thee; and a third part shall fall by the sword round about thee; and a third part I will scatter unto all the winds, and will draw out a sword after them.

“And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will bring upon thee according to thy ways; and thine abominations shall be in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I, Jehovah, do smite.”

“and they shall profane my secret place; and robbers shall enter into it, and profane it.”

Remember Ezekiel's Prophecies“And to the others he said in my hearing, Go ye through the city after

him, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity; slay utterly the old man, the young man and the virgin, and little children and women”

Fall of Jerusalem Jeremiah’s final warning to Zedekiah Jer 38:14-28

17 Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: If thou wilt go forth unto the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thy house.

18 But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.

19 And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen away to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.

20 But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of Jehovah, in that which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well with thee, and thy soul shall live.

Fall of Jerusalem Jeremiah’s final warning to Zedekiah Jer 38:14-28

21 But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that Jehovah hath showed me:

22 behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes, and those women shall say, Thy familiar friends have set thee on, and have prevailed over thee: now that thy feet are sunk in the mire, they are turned away back.

23 And they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans; and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.

Fall of Jerusalem Zedekiah ignores Jeremiah’s counsel and rebels against

Nebuchadnezzar Jer 52:3-4 Siege begins in 588BC Jer 39:1; 2 Kings 25:1

Babylonians encamped around the city Jer 52:4; 2 Kings 25:1 Famine with no bread in the city Jer 52:5-6; 2 Kings 25:2-3

Chaldean army enters in Jerusalem in 586BC Jer 39:2 Many slain II Chron 36:17 & 20

17 Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or virgin, old man or hoary-headed: he gave them all into his hand.

20 And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; and they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:

Fall of Jerusalem Zedekiah flees city, but is captured and brought before

Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon Jer 39:4-8; Jer 52:9-11 Sons are slain before Zedekiah Nobles are slain Zedekiah’s eyes are put out  Zedekiah imprisoned until his death

King’s house and others are burned Walls of Jerusalem broken down Jer 52:13 Temple burned down Jer 52:14 Gold, silver and pillars of brass taken from temple and

carried to Babylon 2 Kings 25:13-17

Fall of Jerusalem (Post 586 BC) Gedaliah appointed governor over Judah 2 Kings 25:22 Jeremiah taken from chained captives and given choice to either

remain in Judah or go to Babylon Jer 40:1-6 Returns to dwell with Gedaliah

Gedaliah killed two months after being appointed 2 Kings 25:25 Jeremiah counsels remnant to remain in Judah Jer 42 15 now therefore hear ye the word of Jehovah, O remnant of Judah:

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, If ye indeed set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

16 then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye fear, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, whereof ye are afraid, shall follow hard after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

17 So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there: they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

Fall of JerusalemJews reject counsel of Jeremiah and travel into Egypt

Jer 43:7 5 But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces,

took all the remnant of Judah, that were returned from all the nations whither they had been driven, to sojourn in the land of Judah;

 6 the men, and the women, and the children, and the king's daughters, and every person that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan; and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah;

7 and they came into the land of Egypt; for they obeyed not the voice of Jehovah: and they came unto Tahpanhes.

Fall of JerusalemJeremiah prophesies of judgment upon the remnant Jer 44  26 : Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith Therefore hear ye the

word of Jehovah, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt Jehovah, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, As the Lord Jehovah liveth.

27 Behold, I watch over them for evil, and not for good; and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.

28 And they that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, few in number; and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose word shall stand, mine, or theirs.

29 And this shall be the sign unto you, saith Jehovah, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:

30 Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will give Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, who was his enemy, and sought his life.

LamentationsLamentations 1 1 How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! She is

become as a widow, that was great among the nations! She that was a princess among the provinces is become tributary!

2 She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks; Among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her: All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they are become her enemies.

3 Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude; She dwelleth among the nations, she findeth no rest: All her persecutors overtook her within the straits.

4 The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn assembly; All her gates are desolate, her priests do sigh: Her virgins are afflicted, and she herself is in bitterness.

5 Her adversaries are become the head, her enemies prosper; For Jehovah hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: Her young children are gone into captivity before the adversary.

LamentationsLamentations 1  8 Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is become as an

unclean thing; All that honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness: Yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward.

18 Jehovah is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: Hear, I pray you, all ye peoples, and behold my sorrow: My virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.

LamentationsLamentations 2  2 The Lord hath swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and hath

not pitied: He hath thrown down in his wrath the strongholds of the daughter of Judah; He hath brought them down to the ground; he hath profaned the kingdom and the princes thereof.

3 He hath cut off in fierce anger all the horn of Israel; He hath drawn back his right hand from before the enemy: And he hath burned up Jacob like a flaming fire, which devoureth round about.

4 He hath bent his bow like an enemy, he hath stood with his right hand as an adversary, And hath slain all that were pleasant to the eye: In the tent of the daughter of Zion he hath poured out his wrath like fire.

5 The Lord is become as an enemy, he hath swallowed up Israel; He hath swallowed up all her palaces, he hath destroyed his strongholds; And he hath multiplied in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.

LamentationsLamentations 2   6 And he hath violently taken away his tabernacle, as if it were of a

garden; he hath destroyed his place of assembly: Jehovah hath caused solemn assembly and sabbath to be forgotten in Zion, And hath despised in the indignation of his anger the king and the priest.

7 The Lord hath cast off his altar, he hath abhorred his sanctuary; He hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces: They have made a noise in the house of Jehovah, as in the day of a solemn assembly.

8 Jehovah hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion; He hath stretched out the line, he hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying; And he hath made the rampart and wall to lament; they languish together.

LamentationsLamentations 2  20 See, O Jehovah, and behold to whom thou hast done thus! Shall

the women eat their fruit, the children that are dandled in the hands? Shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?

21 The youth and the old man lie on the ground in the streets; My virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword: Thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger; thou hast slaughtered, and not pitied.

22 Thou hast called, as in the day of a solemn assembly, my terrors on every side; And there was none that escaped or remained in the day of Jehovah's anger: Those that I have dandled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed.

LamentationsLamentations 3  23 They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.  24 Jehovah is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.  25 Jehovah is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that

seeketh him.  26 It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation

of Jehovah.   31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever.  32 For though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according

to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.  38 Out of the mouth of the Most High cometh there not evil and

good?  39 Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment

of his sins?

LamentationsLamentations 3   40 Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah.  41 Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.  42 We have transgressed and have rebelled; thou hast not pardoned.  43 Thou hast covered with anger and pursued us; thou hast slain,

thou hast not pitied.  44 Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, so that no prayer can pass

through.

LamentationsLamentations 4   6 For the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the sin

of Sodom, That was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands were laid upon her.

11 Jehovah hath accomplished his wrath, he hath poured out his fierce anger; And he hath kindled a fire in Zion, which hath devoured the foundations thereof.

12 The kings of the earth believed not, neither all the inhabitants of the world, That the adversary and the enemy would enter into the gates of Jerusalem.

13 It is because of the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, That have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her.

LamentationsLamentations 5  1 Remember, O Jehovah, what is come upon us: Behold, and see

our reproach.  2 Our inheritance is turned unto strangers, Our houses unto aliens.

14 The elders have ceased from the gate, The young men from their music.

15 The joy of our heart is ceased; Our dance is turned into mourning.  16 The crown is fallen from our head: Woe unto us! for we have

sinned.

LamentationsLamentations 5   19 Thou, O Jehovah, abidest for ever; Thy throne is from generation

to generation.  20 Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, And forsake us so long

time?  21 Turn thou us unto thee, O Jehovah, and we shall be turned;

Renew our days as of old.  22 But thou hast utterly rejected us; Thou art very wroth against us.
