HOW TO WRITE A SOLID CAPTION
Good captions don’t just tell what’s going on in the photo, the act as their own mini-stories.
1. Action sentence: Tells what happens in the photo.
*This is present tense, identifies everyone in the photo and tells what they are doing.
*This sentence does not begin with a name.
2. Background sentence: Tells info that is not apparent in the photo.
*It is written in the past tense and may tell what happened before or after the photo.
3. Quote: Relates the topic of the caption. It may be from someone not pictured in the photo. This is a good way to get more people in the yearbook.
Info:
• Student: Salat Jones, SR

East on Sept. 1

• First day of tailgating
• Quote from another student at
the tailgate: “It was nice to
finally be able to de-stress
after the first week of school.
Even though we lost, it was still
a good way to end the week,”
Sydney Hall said.

The Scarlet football team came up short that night in a 19-3 loss to Dowling. “Even though we lost, it was still a good way to end the week,” senior Sydney Hall said.
