Components of the House of Quality: Components of the House of Quality:
1.1. Customer Requirements, “WHATS”Customer Requirements, “WHATS”
Customers requirements (CR) are collected by the design team from interviews, data bases, and published data. CR are then organized inside QFD matrix to aid in identifying design specifications and constraints.

Assessment of the existing competitive productsin terms of meeting customer requirements. It startswith ranking each CR on a scale of 1 to 5 for each ofthe selected competitors.

The results in section 2 will lead to planned improvementsin order to top the competitors. This will result in aset of importance rating.

Engineering characteristics (ECs) are specificdesign details that can be measured (weight, force, velocity, efficiency…etc.), that are needed to meet CRs.

Engineering characteristics may be dependent on each other. The degrees of interdependenceare presented in the roof. Strong relation is given 9 and 3 for medium relationship.

It presents the correlation between Engineering Characteristics (ECs) and Customer Requirements(CRs). A scale of 9-3-1-0 is used to weight these relationships.
7. Absolute Importance, 7. Absolute Importance,
The product of the number in each cell in matrix “6” times the importance rating in “3” are added togetherFor each column and introduced in matrix “7”.
8. Relative Importance, 8. Relative Importance,
The absolute importance in “7” is normalized through dividing each value by the total sum of all values time 100.The larger value indicates stronger effect of EC on CRs.
