Elected or appointed to lead their respective

program areas, Presiding Officers lead all of the

programs of Youth In Government.

Each Presiding Officer carries a three-fold

responsibility: to the State Program, to their

program area, and to their local YMCA

Delegation.

Elected Presiding Officers include the Governor

and Lieutenant Governor, Commissioner of

Agriculture, Chief Financial Officer, and the

leaders of all four legislative chambers.

Becoming a Presiding Officer is a great

responsibility, and the positions should not be

sought or entered into lightly.

What would you do if elected?

As Youth Governor, I would like to expand

the program into the Miami-Dade area,

which is currently home to over 550,000

students. I would also like to increase our

student ambassador program by getting

the word out more. Also, I would like to

utilize our alumni and get the program out

into the media more.

Describe your involvement in YIG.

For the program, I have helped a lot by

participating in fundraisers and by serving

in my positions. I have helped teach the

legislative process to delegates and I try to

connect with delegates to get them

comfortable in the program.

How did you first get involved with

YIG?

I became involved in Youth In Government

at my first high school orientation and I

saw Maygan Rollins & Clark Devore

promoting "some government club". My

mom really wanted me to join so I went to

the first meeting not thinking it would be

my "thing", but I ended up loving it and I

was hooked!

Do you have a message for delegates?

I would like to encourage all delegates to

take this upcoming State Assembly

experience and grab it by the horns. Try to

make the most out of everything. State

Assembly can be a great opportunity to

make new friends, or become comfortable

with yourself enough to persuade a whole

room to agree with you. Youth In

Government can help you crack your shell.

So open up and soak it all in!

What is your spirit animal?

My spirit animal is a fox. I can't really

explain why, but it is.

If you were a fruit or vegetable, what

would you be?

If I was a vegetable, I would be an

artichoke, you've got to peel off a layer to

realize you love it. So I might come off as

someone you wouldn't get along with, but I

apologize. I just have an angry idle face.

I'm really a happy person.

» Delegates should vote for me

because when I'm passionate about

something, I get the job done.

I can have fun and I love to, but I also take

things seriously.

I have a very strong personality and don't let

others take advantage of me, but I am also

willing to listen and hear what input others

might have. Pierce Gillette

What would you do if elected?

I would continue my efforts to engage

Florida YIG in Service and Civics projects

throughout the year. I would also work to

create better communication between YIG

and the community, between YIG and

elected officials and between YIG and the

media. I also plan on encouraging new

chapters while strengthening those already

established as well as strengthening

communication between the Sr. High and Jr.

High programs.

Describe your involvement in YIG.

I’ve served my chapter as Chaplain,

Secretary and Vice President. I’ve also been

blessed with the opportunity to serve as a

Committee Chair for two years and as a

High School Mentor at Junior Assembly for

two years. Last but certainly not least I am

honored to currently be serving as Sullivan

House Speaker

How did you first get involved with

YIG?

I was volunteering at a debate held for

candidates running for the position of

Florida’s Chief Financial Officer. There was a

group of youth their to watch the debate. I

had never seen students at events like

these be so respectful and interested. I

approached them and learned they were the

local YIG club. I attended their next meeting

and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Do you have a message for delegates?

You are what makes this program

incredible. YIG is made up of the most

outstanding and inspiring leaders I have

ever met. Your sincerity, passion, talent

and will positively effect the people around

you, your communities, your state, your

Nation, your world. Always believe in

yourself and remember that you were made

for great things.

What is your spirit animal?

I’m not sure about my spirit animal, but my

patronous is a mountain lion.

If you were a fruit or vegetable, what

would you be?

Probably pineapple.

I have specific goals that are not

only achievable, but will make the

greatest impact on YIG around the

state.

I believe that I have the passion, focus,

dedication and vision to achieve those goals.

I’ve also spent a lot of time in this program, and

in that time I have had the opportunity to see the

incredible things this program is capable of

achieving and the challenges that still need to be

faced.
