    L o c a l Op t io n S a le s T a x Co n t i n u a t io n The Education Special Purpose LocationOption Sales Tax (ESPLOST) continua-tion would authorize the district to levyand collect a one percent sales tax to helpfund facility construction, renovations,safety & security improvements, 21st

century instructional technology up-grades, and district-wide athletic facilityconstruction & improvements. The ES-PLOST cannot be used to pay expenses, such as salaries and operational costs.

    The ESPLOST continuation provides a

method of funding educational improve-ments in which everyone contributesnot just property owners. Macon & BibbCounty especially benefit from being aretail center in middle Georgia, and salestax is paid by everyone who shops or

    stays in Bibb County.

According to a study conducted by theGeorgia Institute of Technologys Enter-prise Innovation Institute, 71.4% of ES-PLOST revenue was paid by people wholive outside of Bibb County, meaning the

new school construction and facility provements of Capital Improvement Pgrams are funded primarily by visiand tourists, not residents.
