Advocacy by local school board members is a year-round job but is never more critical than when the Virginia General

Assembly is in session. With the Virginia State Capitol and Pocahontas Building closed to visitors for the unforeseeable future,

it is imperative for school board members to continue to contact their legislators and make your voices heard on the issues that

are impacting public education. Even though things are not exactly business-as-usual this year, there are plenty of

opportunities for you to engage with lawmakers by scheduling a virtual meeting where you can convey your message and

advocate for investing in public education and increasing local control and flexibility for school boards in implementing policy.

We will kick-off the two-day conference with a review of the state budget, commentary on the new political scene both in

Virginia and nationally, as well as an outlook on the 2021 session of the general assembly. The events on day one will help

prepare you for your meetings with your individual members of the general assembly. On day two do not miss out on J.T. and

Stacy's wakeup call in the morning to get you ready to meet with your legislators virtually. This session will review strategies

and tips for your meetings. The VSBA Capital Conference offers you an opportunity for your voice to be heard and continues

VSBA’s efforts for year-round advocacy.
