BMT Consultants India is a part of the UK based BMT Group, an international design, engineering and risk management consultancy working in the defense, energy and environment and maritime transport sectors.

BMT Consultants India was formed in 2006 and has completed over 300 projects. It operates out of three offices in Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Chennai.

The use of navigation simulation is now established practice in the design of new ports as well as the upgrading of existing ports. Accurate navigation simulation is one of the key risk mitigation measures that a port operator can take to prevent accidents and optimize the use of his assets.

BMT has rich experience in all aspects of navigation simulation. Our experience includes modeling all types of ships: bulk, liquid, container, LNG ferries etc. and in difficult and complex environments.

Navigation Simulation

• Assessment of safe operating limits in a port under varying environmental conditions

• Use of alternative methods of control, such usage of tugs

• Assessment of tug requirements for a given vessel under specified environmental conditions

• Port familiarization, maneuver rehearsals, and verification of passage plans

• Training for junior and senior officers in ship-handling

Mooring Analysis

• Determination of optimum berth alignment and suitability of proposed berth layout

• Recommend and verify the limiting conditions for the vessel to be moored at the berth

About us

Navigation Simulation – REMBRANDT

BMT with its numerous years’ experience in all aspects of ship maneuvering, from full scale trials, free running and captive model tests has developed an in- house real and fast time ship-handling and maneuvering simulator called REMBRANDT. REMBRANDT stands for Real Time Maneuvering, Berthing and Training simulator. It is designed for port development, maneuver rehearsals, ship- handling training, vessel familiari-zation and incident investigations.

BMT’s differentiators in navigation simulation are:

• The use of a widely accepted and internationally used package- REMBRANDT

• A well developed software with an excellent track record of use both internationally and in India

• A strong and well calibrated mathematical engine which is able to take inputs from other models and thereby provide a dynamically changing environment in contrast to other models where manual input of currents etc. is required. Real time results are provided.

• The use of high fidelity ship models which are derived from real ships.

• Versatility since REMBRANDT can be used both as a portable simulator on a laptop as well as a full- bridge simulator

• Excellent platform for pilot training and widely used in this respect

Mooring Analysis – OPTIMOOR

BMT Consultants India also provides mooring analysis through Optimoor software. Mooring analysis is an essential tool for vessels and port operations personnel especially when assessments are required to be undertaken to meet requirements of OCIMF and OPA – 90 legislations.
