LETTER FROM PRINCIPAL BATTLE
Welcome Canyon View Families!
One of the most compelling reasons for people who choose to live in this area is the
outstanding schools of Poway Unified. Ours is one of the top districts in the state and continues
to show increased student achievement despite unthinkable budget cuts. These cuts over the
past several years have left California nearly last in per pupil funding.
As the principal of Canyon View Elementary School, I am proud to say that in a prestigious
district, we remain one of the most prestigious schools. Our students excel in all areas and
exceed the State and District averages in math, science, and language arts.
With continued reductions in state funding, we all face a huge budget gap. Yet the Canyon
View community has continually stepped up to that challenge. Our school is profoundly
grateful (and fortunate) for your generous support of the CV Foundation and CV PTA – now
Team Canyon View!
Team Canyon View provides family programs through the PTA and fundraises monies through
the Foundation to support school instructional programs that are targeted specifically to the
needs of our developing coyotes.
One of the most important ingredients in helping our students be successful is you! I encourage
you to volunteer, give to the Foundation, communicate your questions and concerns to myself
and Team Canyon View, and be an active participant in your child’s education.
You made the right choice to live in the Poway Unified School District. I hope you are pleased
to be part of the outstanding community that is Canyon View. Team Canyon View and I
welcome you to an exciting new year and invite you to join our efforts to maintain the quality of
our school and its enriching programs.
Sincerely,
Dr. Megan Battle Principal, Canyon View Elementary School
3
CHARACTER.
The Poway Unified School District actively supports the Character Counts! Program and the Six Pillars of Character:
Canyon View will improve the moral climate by teaching, advocating, enforcing and modeling the 6 pillars of character including trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and
citizenship by insuring that in every relationship Character Counts!

BACK TO SCHOOL FUNDRAISER
Your purchase of Coyote Gear helps enhance Canyon View Elementary Art, Science, Music and Technology Programs, plus other needs not met by current school district budgets. Last year, your gifts helped boost the current PE program with new instruction and materials. Will you help us reach our goal of selling 500 shirts? With your gift today, you’re investing in sustainable solutions, empowering students to reach milestones in their education.
You help make this possible.
POWER OF TWO
PTA
• Focuses on Programs Pancake Breakfast, Winter Dance, Variety Show
• Part of National PTA Everyone Can Join
• Self-funding Programs Coyote Round Up, Ice Cream Social, Book Fair, Movie Night
FOUNDATION
Cooperation between the PTA and the Foundation has never been stronger. Never more aligned with parents, teachers and our
principal. Each group welcomes your input and looks forward to engaging with you at meetings
and events throughout the year.
EVER WONDER ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CANYON VIEW PTA & FOUNDATION?
Our school is fortunate to have two teams of dedicated parents working on behalf of our children. But sometimes there’s confusion about the two
groups, why they exist and what they do. Here is a general comparison:

• Focuses on Fundraising Red Envelope, Jog-A-Thon, Silent Auction
• Independent Group Elected Representatives

FOUNDATION TECH TEAM
This is a new idea that Canyon View Foundation would like to explore and furthers the Foundation's mission of providing technology to the school. It would be similar to room parents but filled by parents that are technically savvy and would be willing to donate their time and ideas to support the school's technology needs.
We will assign projects based on school needs, skill levels and areas of expertise.
We also hope to build the "T and E" in our schools STEAM Program by offering guest lectures on various topics.
Please attend our first meeting to help develop this program on Thursday, Sept. 10th at 6pm. Full Name: _____________________________________ Email: _____________________________________ Phone: _____________________________________

VOLUNTEER!
JUST TWO HOURS!
Dear Parents,
If we can get every Canyon View Elementary School parent to commit “Just 2 Hours” to helping out, we
can do amazing things for our kids and our school!
Will you please take the 2 Hour Involvement Pledge?
We’ve started using a program called 2 Hour Power that emphasizes that all help, any help, makes a huge
difference for schools. The research is so clear – kids at schools with a broad base of involved parents,
perform markedly better on all kinds of key school measures.
As you’ll see from the Interest Survey & Pledge Form that is attached, we’d love to help you get involved in
any way that works for your schedule and interests. What would you like to do? When would you like to do
it? We’d like to work with you to make sure all parents can pitch in. Involvement is for everyone!
We’d love your 2 Hours, and – Really! We promise! – There’s no obligation beyond helping out in this small, but important way. If you’d like to do more – great, but we know that’s not a fit for everyone.
Participating in our 2 Hour Power program is easy. Simply complete the Interest Survey & Pledge Form
attached and return it to school with your child. We’ll then be in touch with opportunities that fit your
interests and availability.
Together, we can make a huge difference at our school! As always, please feel free to call or email if you
have any questions or concerns.
Thanks in advance,
Heather Fleming Jenny Oesterblad Jolene Zarzycki

FOUNDATION FUNDRAISERS
Red Envelope and Coyote Spirit Week This year Blue Envelope has become Red Envelope and Coyote Spirit Week. We will show our Coyote pride and celebrate the wonderful programs such as art, music, science lab, IMPACT and PE that we are so lucky to have at Canyon View. These continue to exist at Canyon View ONLY because of generous parent support. Red envelopes will be sent home with students and returned to their teachers throughout
the week. As always, 100% of your tax-deductible direct donation goes to Canyon View. This will take place the week of September 21 – 25.
Jog-a-Thon Each year the CV Foundation organizes a Jog-A-Thon to raise money for much needed technology and programs at Canyon View. The students collect money from friends and family and then the classes take turns running laps around the school track. Families are encouraged to come and run with their children. This is taking place on Friday, March 11th.
Silent Auction During the Coyote Round Up, the Foundation will hold it’s annual Silent Auction in the MPR. This will take place on Friday, April 29th.
Coyote Gear, eWaste & Pizza Sales These fundraisers takes place throughout the school year.
