Esta CANTEADORA tiene características que harán su trabajo más rápido y fácil. Seguridad, comodidad y confiabilidad fueron previstos como prioridad para el diseño del mismo, ha-ciendo más fácil su operación.

ADVERTENCIA: Lea atentamente el ma-nual antes de intentar usar este producto. Asegúrese de prestar atención a todas las ad-vertencias y las precauciones de seguridad a lo largo de este manual.

• Mantenga su área de trabajo limpia y bien iluminada. Mesas desordenadas y áreas oscuras pueden provocar accidentes. • No use la máquina en atmósferas explosivas, tales como estar en la presencia de líquidos fla-mables, gases o polvo. Los productos eléctricos generan chispas, las cuales pueden provocar incendios. • Mantenga a los observadores, niños y visi-tantes lejos de la máquina mientras la está operando. Las distracciones pueden causarle la pérdida del control.

• Evite el contacto del cuerpo con las superficies descargadas a tierra tales como tubos, radia-dores, rangos y refrigeradores. Existe un mayor riesgo de descarga eléctrica si su cuerpo “hace tierra”. • No exponga el producto a la lluvia o a condi-ciones de humedad. La entrada de agua en la máquina aumentará el riesgo de una descarga eléctrica. • No abuse del cable Nunca use el cable para llevar el producto o tirar del cable para sacarlo

del tomacorriente. Mantenga el cable lejos del calor, del aceite, bordes filosos y partes móvi-les.

• Manténgase alerta, vea lo que está haciendo y use el sentido común cuando esté operando la máquina. No use este producto cuando esté cansado o bajo la influencia de drogas o alco-hol. Un momento de distracción mientras está utilizando la máquina puede tener como resul-tado una lesión seria. • Vístase correctamente. No use ropa floja ni joyas. Recoja su cabello. Mantenga su ves-timenta, cabello y guantes lejos de las partes móviles. La ropa suelta, joyería o el pelo largo pueden ser atrapados por las partes móviles. • Evite el arranque accidental. Asegúrese que el interruptor esté en la posición de apagado an-tes de enchufar el producto. Llevar la máquina con el dedo en el interruptor de encendido o enchufar productos que tengan el interruptor en la posición de encendido provoca que ocu-rran accidentes. • No se exceda. El calzado y un buen balance permite un mejor control de la herramienta en situaciones inesperadas. • Siempre use el equipo de seguridad nece-sario: protección ocular, máscara contra polvo, zapatos de seguridad antiderrapantes, casco y protección auditiva. • Antes de conectarlo a una fuente de ener-gía (receptáculo, salida, etc.) asegúrese que el voltaje de alimentación sea el mismo que el mencionado en la etiqueta o placa de valores nominales del producto. Una fuente de poten-cia mayor que la especificada para el producto puede ocasionar lesiones serias para el usuario como también puede dañar la máquina.

• Use mordazas o alguna otra manera práctica para asegurar y apoyar la pieza de trabajo a una plataforma estable. Sostener la pieza de trabajo con las manos o contra su cuerpo es ines-table y puede generar una pérdida de control.• No fuerce la máquina. Use la máquina correc-tamente en su aplicación y ésto le ayudará a realizar mejor y de manera más segura el tra-bajo para el cual fue diseñado.

No use la máquina si el interruptor de encen-dido no enciende o apaga. Cualquier máquina que no pueda ser controlada con el interruptor es peligrosa y debe ser reparada.Desconecte el enchufe de la fuente de energía antes de hacer algún ajuste, cambiar accesorios o guardar la máquina. Estas medidas preven-tivas reducen el riesgo de que la máquina se encienda accidentalmente.Almacene las máquinas eléctricas fuera del alcance de los niños y cualquier otra persona que no esté capacitada en el manejo. Las he-rramientas son peligrosas en manos de usua-rios que no están capacitados.Mantenga la herramienta con cuidado. Man-tenga las herramientas cortantes afiladas y lim-pias. Las herramientas correctamente manteni-das y afiladas es menos probable que se traben y son más fáciles de controlar.Verifique si hay una mala alineación o si al-guna parte móvil se encuentra trabada, partes rotas o cualquier otra condición que pueda afectar la operación de la máquina. Si hay da-ños haga reparar la máquina antes de usarla. Use solamente accesorios recomendados por el fabricante de su modelo. Accesorios que funcionan para una máquina pueden ser pe-ligrosos cuando son usados en otra máquina.No altere o mal use la máquina. Esta máquina fue construida con precisión. Cualquier altera-ción o modificación no especificada es un mal uso y puede resultar en una condición peligrosa.SIEMPRE use protección ocular. Cualquier má-quina puede lanzar residuos a los ojos durante la operacion, lo que podría causar daño ocu-lar grave y permanente. Los lentes diarios no son gafas de seguridad. Siempre utilice gafas de seguridad (que cumplen con la norma ANSI Z87.1) al operar herramientas eléctricas. IMPORTANTE: SIEMPRE use protección para los oídos. El algodón no es un dispositivo de protección aceptable. Este equipo de seguri-dad debe cumplir con las normas ANSI S3.19 establecidas. IMPORTANTE: SIEMPRE use un respirador/máscara anti polvo para prevenir la inhalación de polvo o partículas peligrosas del aire. ADVERTENCIA: EVITE un área de trabajo peligrosa. NO utilice herramientas eléctricas en ambientes húmedos o exponga a la lluvia o la humedad.

IMPORTANTE: HAGA EL AREA DE TRABAJO A PRUEBA DE NIÑOS, quitando las llaves del interruptor, desconectando las herramientas de los receptáculos eléctricos, y el uso de can-dados.NO utilice herramientas eléctricas con la pre-sencia de líquidos inflamables o gases.NO force la máquina para realizar una ope-ración para la cual no fue diseñada. Se hará un trabajo con más calidad, más seguro si se realizan operaciones para las que se destina la máquina.NO se pare sobre una máquina. Puede ocasio-nar lesiones graves si se vuelca o si accidental-mente entra en contacto con cualquier parte móvil.SIEMPRE busque y revise por piezas dañadas antes de usar cualquier máquina. Revise cuida-dosamente las guardas de seguridad para ver que funcionan correctamente, no se encuen-tren dañados, y pueda realizar las funciones previstas. Revise la alineación, la unión o bus-que por partes rotas de todas las partes móvi-les. Cualquier protector u otra pieza que esté dañada debe ser inmediatamente reparados o reemplazados.Aterrice todas las máquinas. Si el equipo se su-ministra con un enchufe de 3 clavijas, esta debe estar conectada a un receptáculo de 3 puertos. El tercer contacto se utiliza para aterrizar la herramienta y proporcionar protección contra una descarga accidental. NO quite el tercer pi-vote.Mantenga a los visitantes y a los niños aleja-dos de cualquier máquina. NO permita que personas se encuentren en el área de trabajo, especialmente cuando la máquina esté en fun-cionamiento.QUITE TODAS LAS HERRAMIENTAS DE MANTE-NIMIENTO del área inmediata antes de encen-der la máquina.Utilice únicamente accesorios recomendados. El uso de accesorios incorrectos o inadecuados puede causar lesiones graves al operador y cau-sar daños a la máquina. En caso de duda, NO lo utilice.El uso de cables de extensión no se recomien-dan para equipos de 220 V. Es mejor buscar una mejor ubicación del equipo y el cableado insta-lado para eliminar la necesidad de una exten-sión. Si es necesaria una extensión, consulte la

tabla en la sección “Instrucciones de conexión a tierra” para determinar el calibre mínimo. El cable de extensión debe contener también un cable a tierra y clavija.

• La reparación de la herramienta debe ser lle-vada a cabo solamente por personal calificado. La reparación o el mantenimiento realizado por una persona no calificada puede generar peligro de lesión. • Cuando esté reparando la máquina use única-mente partes de reemplazo idénticas. Siga las instrucciones en la sección de mantenimiento de este manual. El uso de partes no autoriza-das o la falta de seguimiento de las instruccio-nes de mantenimiento pueden ocasionar el riesgo de una descarga eléctrica o lesión.

1. Lesiones personales graves pueden ocurrir si las normas y advertencias de seguridad son ignoradas o evitadas. Los accidentes son usual-mente causados por la falta de familiaridad o la falta de atención durante la operación.2. Cada área de trabajo es diferente. Siempre se debe considerar primero la seguridad que se aplica a su área de trabajo. Utilice esta má-quina con respeto y precaución. El no hacerlo podría resultar en lesiones personales graves y daños a la máquina.3. Evite descargas eléctricas. Siga todas las nor-mas de seguridad para productos eléctricos, incluyendo el Código Eléctrico Nacional (NEC) y el Reglamento de Seguridad y Salud Ocupa-cional (OSHA). Todas las conexiones eléctricas y el cableado debe ser realizado por personal calificado. ADVERTENCIA: Para reducir el riesgo de des-carga eléctrica, NO utilice esta herramienta en el exterior. No exponga a la lluvia o la hume-dad. Almacene dentro en un área seca.4. Deje de usar esta máquina, si en algún mo-mento tiene dificultades en la ejecución de cualquier operación. Comuníquese con su cen-tro de servicio autorizado de inmediato.5. Las etiquetas de seguridad están en esta má-quina para advertir, dirigir y a la vez es una ma-nera de protegerse o proteger a los visitantes

de lesiones personales. Estas etiquetas deben mantenerse en la máquina legibles. SUSTITUYA las calcomanías que no sean legibles.6. NO deje la unidad conectada a la toma eléc-trica. Desconecte la máquina del tomacorriente cuando no esté en uso y antes de repararla, realizar tareas de mantenimiento o limpieza.7. SIEMPRE apague la máquina antes de desco-nectar la canteadora. ADVERTENCIA: NO manipule el enchufe o la canteadora con las manos mojadas.8. UTILICE solamente accesorios recomendados por Urrea.9. NO tire de la canteadora por el cable de ali-mentación. NUNCA permita que el cable de alimentación entre en contacto con bordes afi-lados, superficies calientes, aceite o grasa.10. NO desenchufe la canteadora tirando del cable de alimentación. Siempre jale del en-chufe, no del cable.11. SUSTITUYA el cable dañado inmediata-mente. NO la use con un cable o enchufe da-ñado, si la canteadora no está funcionando correctamente, o se ha dañado, dejado a la in-temperie o ha estado en contacto con el agua.12. NO use la canteadora como un juguete. No lo utilice cerca de niños.13. Asegurese que la máquina se asienta firme-mente en el suelo antes de usar. Si la máquina se tambalea o es inestable, corrija el problema mediante el uso de cuñas o bloques antes de la operación.14. Mantenga las manos y los dedos alejados de las cuchillas durante la operación.15. USE bloques de empuje con cualquier ma-terial menor de 3” de altura o grosor.16. NO use la canteadora con piezas de menos de 10” de largo.17. NUNCA use la canteadora con la profundi-dad de corte de más de 1/8”.18. Mantenga una relación adecuada entre las mesas de entrada y salida y los cuchillos del ca-bezal de corte.19. Nunca quite las virutas sin antes apagar la máquina y desconectarla.20. Nunca encienda la máquina si la pieza de trabajo está en contacto con el cabezal de corte.21. SIEMPRE alimente en sentido contrario de la rotación del cabezal de corte. Nunca aplique presión al alimentar con las manos directa-

mente arriba del cabezal. Siempre levante sus manos, una a la vez sobre el cabezal de corte, mientras va colocando la pieza de trabajo so-bre la mesa de la canteadora. Siempre tenga un buen soporte para la pieza de trabajo y manténgalo bajo control durante la operación.22. MANTENGA las cuchillas del cabezal de corte libres de óxido y resina.23. SIEMPRE desconecte la máquina de la fuente de poder antes de realizar cualquier ajuste.24. NUNCA realice trabajos a mano libre. Uti-lice la guía de corte para posicionar y guiar la pieza de trabajo.

REQUERIMIENTOS ELÉCTRICOS ADVERTENCIA: Para reducir el riesgo de cho-que eléctrico, siga todos los códigos de segu-ridad, incluyendo el Código Eléctrico Nacional (NEC) y el Reglamento de Seguridad y Salud Ocupacional (OSHA). Todas las conexiones eléctricas y el cableado debe ser realizado por personal calificado.

El interruptor provisto con su canteadora es un interruptor con capacidad de doble voltaje, lo que significa que está diseñado para funcionar a 120 ó 220 voltios. El interruptor y la cantea-dora vienen pre-cableados para operar a 120 voltios. Si usted decide hacer que la cantea-dora que funcione a 220 voltios, usted tendrá que reemplazar el enchufe de 120 voltios que se encuentra conectado al interruptor con un enchufe de UL/CSA adecuado para 220 voltios. La canteadora con una conexión de 220 voltios sólo se debe conectar a un tomacorriente que tenga la misma configuración que el enchufe. No hay ningún adaptador disponible o que se deba utilizar con el enchufe de 220 voltios. Una vez que la modificación se ha hecho para el enchufe del interruptor, asegúrese de seguir las instrucciones de la sección de CAMBIAR EL VOLTAJE DEL MOTOR para cambiar el voltaje del motor de 120 voltios a 220 voltios en la sec-ción de los ajustes de este manual.

INSTRUCCIONES DE CONEXIÓN A TIERRA ADVERTENCIA: Esta máquina debe estar co-nectada a tierra mientras esté en uso, para pro-teger al operador de una descarga eléctrica.

CONEXIÓN ELÉCTRICA

En el caso de un fallo o avería, la conexión a tierra proporciona una salida de menor resis-tencia para la corriente eléctrica y reduce el riesgo de una descarga eléctrica. El enchufe debe estar conectado a un receptáculo eléc-trico que esté debidamente instalado y conec-tado a tierra de acuerdo con todos los códigos y ordenanzas locales.Si un enchufe es entregado con el equipo NO lo modifique. Si no se ajusta a su receptáculo eléctrico, un electricista calificado debe reali-zar esta instalación, estas conexiones deben cumplir con todos los códigos eléctricos locales y estatales incluyendo las de la OSHA.

UNA CONEXIÓN ELÉCTRICA INADECUADA del equipo y conexión a tierra, puede resultar en riesgo de descarga eléctrica. El conductor con el cable verde (con o sin rayas amarillas) es el conductor a tierra. NO conecte el equipo y la tierra a una terminal viva, si la reparación o reempazo del cable eléctrico o del enchufe es necesario.Consulte a un electricista calificado o personal técnico si usted no entiende completamente las instrucciones de conexión a tierra, o si no está seguro que la herramienta este adecuada-mente aterrizada.

ENCHUFES Y RECEPTÁCULOS ADVERTENCIA: Electrocución o incendio po-drían resultar si la máquina no está correcta-mente conectada a tierra o si la configuración eléctrica no cumple las normativas de electrici-dad locales y estatales.• Asegúrese de que la máquina esté desconec-tada de la fuente de alimentación antes de co-menzar cualquier trabajo eléctrico.• ASEGURESE que el interruptor no exceda la capacidad de la clavija y receptáculo.El motor que se proporciona con su máquina es un motor monofásico de 120/220 V y 60 Hz. Nunca conecte el cable verde o el cable para aterrizar a una terminal viva.Una máquina con un enchufe de 120/220V sólo se debe conectar a un tomacorriente que tenga la misma configuración que el enchufe.

EXTENSIONES DE CABLE ADVERTENCIA: Para reducir el riesgo de in-cendios o descargas eléctricas, utilice el calibre adecuado de extensión de cable.

Cuando se utilice una extensión, asegúrese de usar uno que tenga un calibre mayor para que pueda llevar la corriente que su máquina va a tomar. Cuanto menor sea el número de calibre, mayor es el diámetro del cable de extensión. En caso de duda del tamaño adecuado para una exten-sión de cable, utilice un cable más corto y más grueso. Un cable de menor calibre causará una baja de voltaje que resultará en la pérdida de potencia y sobrecalentamiento. PRECAUCIÓN: USE SOLAMENTE un cable de 3 hilos que tiene un enchufe de 3 clavijas y un receptáculo de 3 polos que acepte el enchufe de la máquina.

CONOZCA SU HERRAMIENTAAntes de intentar usar la herramienta lea cui-dadosamente este manual y comprenda todas sus capacidades y limitantes antes de comenzar a utilizarla.

IMPORTANTE: Esta máquina es pesada, se necesitan dos personas para poder desempacar el producto. Utilice una cinta de seguridad que evite que se incline la máquina cuando levante la máquina.Compruebe que el empaque y la máquina no lleguen dañados. Retire con cuidado los mate-riales de embalaje, los repuestos y la maquina del empaque. Siempre localice y quite los materiales de pro-tección que se encuentran alrededor del motor y las partes móviles. Coloque todas las piezas en una superficie de trabajo limpia.

Retire el material de protección y los revesti-mientos de todas las partes y de la canteadora. Los revestimientos de protección pueden ser removidos rociando “Aflojatodo“ en ellos y limpiandolo con un paño suave. Puede que sea necesario hacer esto varias veces antes de que todos los recubrimientos protectores se remo-vidos por completo.Despues de la limpieza, aplique cera de buena calidad en todas las supercies que no se en-cuentren pintadas. Asegurese de encerar antes de ensamblar. Compare los elementos con las figuras que se muestran, verifique que todos los elementos se encuentren en el empaque antes de tirar la caja.

ADVERTENCIA: Si falta alguna pieza, no in-tente conectar el cable de alimentación y en-cender la máquina. INSTALANDO LAS RUEDAS A LA BASE1. Voltee la base (Fig.1-A) quedando la parte abierta arriba, monte las 2 llantas (B) a la base usando un tornillo hexagonal M8x50mm y una aran-dela plana M8 para cada llanta.2. Coloque las patas de nivelación (C) a la base atornillando la parte roscada del pie en los ori-ficios roscados en la base.

3. Conecte el pedal de gira-torio (Fig.2-D) a la base con dos tornillos M8 x 20mm ca-beza de coche y dos tuercas hexagonales M8.4. Voltee nuevamente la base para que las ruedas toquen el suelo, y ajuste las patas de nivelación hasta que la uni-dad no se tambalee.

MONTANDO LA CANTEADORA A LA BASE ADVERTENCIA: Esta máquina es pesada, se necesitan dos personas para poder desempacar el producto. Utilice una cinta de seguridad que evite que se incline la máquina cuando levante la máquina.1. Asegúrese de que la polea en el motor está en línea con la pieza recortada en la parte su-perior de la base para que la banda de transmi-sión puede pasar a través.2. Utilice una asis-tencia externa para levantar la canteadora en la base (Fig.3).3. La canteadora se fija con tres tornillos M10x25 mm de cabeza hueca, tres arandelas M10 y tres arandelas planas M10. Dos de ellas son acce-sibles a través del pa-nel en la parte trasera de la canteadora. El tercero es accesada a través del conducto de polvo (Fig. 4-B).4. Apriete los tres tornillos firmemente con la llave hexagonal suministrada.

Asegúrese de que estén alineados. Si un ajuste es necesario, puede cambiar la posición de la polea del motor en el eje del motor aflo-jando el tornillo de fijación de la polea del mo-tor y moviendo la polea del motor hasta que esté alineada con la polea del cabezal de corte.

2. Coloque la banda en V en la polea del cabezal de corte (Fig. 5-A).3. Coloque la banda en V en la polea del motor (Fig. 5-C). Puede ser necesario reposicionar el motor para colocar la banda en la polea del mo-tor. Si este es el caso, afloje los 4 tornillos (no mostrado) que sujetan el motor de la tolva de polvo y reposicione el motor hasta que la banda pueda montarse en la polea del motor. Vuelva a apretar los pernos.NOTA: Si es necesario mover el motor, asegú-rese de volver a comprobar la alineación de la polea después de hacerlo.4. Una vez que el banda está posicionado en las poleas, compruebe la tensión de la correa presionando la banda en su punto medio. Una tensión adecuada se logra cuando hay aproximadamente 1” de flexión en el centro de la banda haciendo una ligera presión con el dedo.5. Si un ajuste es necesario, eleve o baje el mo-tor hasta que se logra una tensión adecuada. ADVERTENCIA: El borde exterior de la po-lea no debe extenderse más allá del extremo del eje del motor en cualquier circunstancia.

AJUSTE DE LA TENSIÓN DE LA BANDA1. Una tensión de la banda adecuada, se ob-tiene cuando tiene una tensión de al menos 1” hacia el centro de la banda usando un poco de presión con el dedo.2. Si se requiere un ajuste, el motor puede su-birse o bajarse para obtener una tensión co-rrecta de la banda.3. Apriete la tornillería de montaje del motor después de la aplicar la tensión, asegurándose que la alineación de las poleas no se modifi-que.4. Reemplace la guarda de la polea del cabezal de corte.

MONTAJE DEL ENSAMBLE DE LA GUIA ADVERTENCIA: Asegúrese que la máquina se encuentre desconectada de la fuente de poder.

1. Coloque el ensam-ble de la guía (Fig. 6-A) en la parte supe-rior de la canteadora. Alinee la ranura (B) en el montaje de la guía con la ranura (C) en la parte superior de la canteadora.2. Coloque la arandela de la perilla en la peri-lla de bloqueo del eje e inserte la perilla de bloqueo (Fig. 7-D) a través de las ranuras y fijelas con la tuerca especial (Fig.8-E). Ase-gúrese de que los dos dientes de la tuerca especial embone en la ranura de la cantea-dora.3. Atornille la perilla de la guía en el orificio situado en la parte superior.

ENSAMBLANDO LA GUARDA DEL CABEZAL DE CORTE ADVERTENCIA: Asegúrese que la máquina se encuentre desconectada de la fuente de poder. PRECAUCIÓN: La guarda del cabezal de corte tiene un resorte que regresa la guarda a su lugar. La tensión de este resorte se establece desde fábrica. Cuando la guarda esta bien instalada debe regresar a la guía automática-mente después de que la pieza de trabajo haya pasado sobre el cabezal de corte. Asegúrese de que la guarda este funcionando apropiada-mente antes de utilizar la canteadora.1. Quitando el tornillo (Fig. 9-A) de la barra (B) de la guarda del cabezal de corte (D).2. Coloque la guarda del cabezal de corte a la canteadoracolo-cando la barra a través del agujero (Fig. 10-E) de la canteadora.3. Gire la perilla (C) en la parte inferior del agujero, de ½ vuelta

para poner tensión en el resorte de regreso. Este resorte permite a la guarda volver sobre el cabezal de corte después de que el corte se haya hecho.4. Alinee la ranura en la barra con el resorte, a continuación, inserte la barra.5. Controle que la guarda regrese completa-mente sobre el cabezal de corte. Si no es así, retire la guarda y de otra media vuelta a la perilla (C). Vuelva a colocar la guarda como lo hizo en el paso 4 y vuelva a verificar.6. Vuela a enroscar el tornillo que retiró en el paso 1 a la guarda del cabezal de corte. Este tornillo mantiene la guarda en su lugar.Pruebe la guarda y asegúrese de que vuelva de nuevo a la guía cuando es jalada. Pruebe la guía posicionándola a la parte más alejada de la guarda. Hágase el hábito de comprobar esta importante característica de seguridad antes de usar la canteadora.

ENSAMBLANDO EL PUERTO DE EXPULSIÓN DE POLVO1. La base de la canteadora tiene integrado un sistema de salida de residuos. Si desea conectar esta máquina a un sistema de recolección depolvo, tiene que insta-lar el puerto suminis-trado, el cual se puede fijar en la base de la canteadora con cua-tro tornillos de cabeza redonda M6 x 8mm ycuatro arandelas planas (Fig.11).2. Ahora puede conectar una manguera de re-colección de polvo de tamaño estándar a este puerto.NOTA: NO INSTALE EL CONECTOR DE POLVO SI NO PLANEA CONECTAR LA CANTEADORA A UN SISTEMA DE RECOLECCIÓN DE POLVO.

COLOCANDO EL INTE-RRUPTOR1. Fije el interruptor a la parte trasera de la canteadora con dos tornillos de cabeza hexagonales M6 x 15 mm y dos arandelas dentadas M6 (Fig. 12).2. Inserte el cable a tra-vés del agujero (Fig.13-

A) en la base canteadora y se adhiera a la co-leta en la canteadora.3. Vuelva a colocar el panel en la parte poste-rior de la base de canteadora.

ENSAMBLANDO LOS VOLANTESEl propósito de los volantes es para subir y ba-jar las tablas de salida y alimentación. El pro-cedimiento de instalación es el mismo para ambos volantes de la canteadora.

Para instalar:1. La llave (Fig.14-A) para tornillo de ca-beza plana (B) y la arandela plana (C) ya deberan estar unido al eje.2. Quite el tornillo de cabeza plana y una aran-dela plana. Quite la cinta de la llave.3. Inserte el volante en el eje asegurándose de que la muesca del volante se alinee con la llave en el eje.4. Apriete el volante al eje con el tornillo de cabeza plana y una arandela plana que quitó en el paso 2.

5. Enrosque el mango (Fig.15-D) en el ori-ficio roscado (E) del volante.

AJUSTES DE LA MESA DE ALIMENTACIÓNPara elevar o bajar la mesa de alimentación, afloje la manija de bloqueo (Fig.16-B) y gire la mesa, subiendo y bajando con el volante (A) hasta que la mesa se encuentre en la posición que desee, aquí apriete la mesa de alimenta-ción con el volante.

SISTEMA DE PARO DE PROFUNDIDAD DE ALI-MENTACIÓNHay una característica de seguridad que no permite que la mesa de alimentación vaya por debajo de una profundidad de corte de 1/8”.Este sistema (Fig.17-A) se encuentra en la parte posterior de la canteadora. Una vez que la canteadora llegue a una profundi-dad de 1/8“, la perilla se precipita hacia elagujero en la mesa de alimentación. Para hacer que la mesa de alimentación vaya mas profundo que esto, tendrá que sacar la perilla a medida que baje la mesa.

AJUSTES DE LA MESA DE SALIDA IMPORTANTE: DESCONECTE LA MÁQUINA DE LA FUENTE DE ALIMENTACIÓN.La mesa de salida debe ser estar exactamente nivelada a la altura de las cuchillas cuando es-tas se encuentren en su punto más alto de re-voluciones. Para mover la mesa, afloje el bloqueo (Fig.16-C) de la mesa y gire la mesa subiendo y bajando el volante (D) hasta que la mesa esté al nivel de las cuchillas. Cuando esta mesa se encuentre al mismo nivel de los cuchillos a su velocidad más alta, apriete el mango de bloqueo.

COLOCANDO LA GUARDA DEL CABEZAL DE CORTE ADVERTENCIA: DESCONECTE LA MÁQUINA DE LA FUENTE DE PODER. La guarda de la polea del cabezal de corte se encuentra unida a la canteadora usando cuatro tornillos de ca-beza plana M6x10mm Phillips (Fig.18-A).

AJUSTANDO LAS PARADAS DE LA GUÍALa guía en su canteadora esta equipada con paradas en las posiciones mas utilizadas del rango de 90˚ a 45˚ hacia adentro y hacia fuera. Para verificar y ajustar estas paradas, proceeda como se indica a continuación:

ADVERTENCIA: Asegúrese que la máquina este desconectada de la fuente de poder.1. Coloque la guía a 90 grados hacia la mesa, aflojando la palanca de bloqueo del bisel (Fig. 19-D) y mueva la guía hasta que el tornillo (A) se detenga al tope (E).

2. Usando una escuadra, verifique que la guía esté a 90 grados con la mesa.3. Si la guía no está a 90 grados, afloje la tuerca (D) y ajustar el tornillo de tope (B) hasta que la guía esté a 90 grados con la mesa. Vuelva a apretar la tuerca (D).4. Incline la guía hacia el interior hasta que llege a 45 grados de la tuerca de tope (Fig. 19-E).5. Utilizando una es-cuadra combinada,verifique que la guía si se encuentre inclinada a 45 grados (Fig. 20).6. Si es necesario un ajuste, apriete o afloje la tuerca de tope (E) hasta que la guía se encuen-tre a 45 grados.7. Incline la guía 45 grados hacia el exte-rior. Para hacer esto usted tendrá que voltear el tope de 90 grados (Fig. 16-C) deforma que este de cara hacia la mesa de ali-mentación.8. Utilizando una escuadra de combinación, ve-rifique que la guía se incline a 45 grados (Fig. 21).9. Si es necesario un ajuste, afloje la tuerca hexagonal situada en el tope de 45 grados y ajuste el tornillo tope hasta que la guía esté a 45 grados hacia la mesa.

CAMBIANDO EL VOLTAJE DEL MOTOR ADVERTENCIA: Asegúrese de que la can-teadora esté desconectada de la fuente de ali-mentación. Haga que un electricista certificado realice todas las conexiones eléctricas.

El motor que viene con la canteadora es un motor monofásico dual que puede operar a 120/220 voltios. El motor se encuentra ca-bleado desde fábrica para funcionar a 120 voltios. Para cambiar a 220 voltios para su operación de la ensambladora, proceda con las siguientes instrucciones. También es nece-sario reemplazar el enchufe de 120 voltios, se suministra con la ensambladora, con un tapón de UL / CAS lista (no incluido) adecuado para 220 voltios y la corriente nominal del motor. La ensambladora con un enchufe de 220 voltios sólo se debe conectar a un tomacorriente que tenga la misma configuración que el enchufe. No hay ningún adaptador está disponible o se debe utilizar con el enchufe de 220 voltios.

1. Asegúrese de que el interruptor esté apa-gado y desconecte el cable de alimentación de la fuente de poder.2. Desenrosque los seis tornillos que sujetan el panel de acceso a la base de la canteadora y retire el panel de ac-ceso.3. Si el motor se es-tablece que es de doble voltaje quite la cubierta de la base (Fig.22-A) al motor. 4. Utilizando el diagrama de cableado en el interior de la cubierta, vuelva a conectar los cables del motor para una operación de 220 V.5. Vuelva a colocar la cubierta de la base y el panel que quito en el paso 2.6. Reemplace el enchufe de 120 V con un en-chufe clasificado para una operación de 220 V.7. El interruptor de encendido/apagado es de 4 polos y no necesita modificarse.

IMPORTANTE: Permita solamente que per-sonal capacitado y autorizado opere el equipo.Inspeccione y de mantenimiento a las guardas,

los dispositivos de seguridad y controles de ini-cio/apagado. Instruya, capacite y supervise un método de trabajo seguro.

ADVERTENCIA: Lesiones personales graves pueden ocurrir si las precauciones y normas de seguridad se pasa por alto o son ignoradas. Los accidentes son producto de la falta de familia-ridad o de falta de atención hacia el producto. Acuda a su supervisor, instructor, u otro indi-viduo calificado que esté familiarizado con la máquina y sus operaciones.Cada área de trabajo es diferente. Siempre se debe considerar primero la seguridad que se aplica a su área de trabajo. Utilizar cualquier máquina con respeto y precaución. El no ha-cerlo podría resultar en lesiones personales graves y daños a la máquina.

DEJE de usar la máquina, si en algún mo-mento tiene dificultades en el desempeño de cualquier operación. Contacte a su supervisor, instructor o centro de servicio calificado de in-mediato.

INTERRUPTOR DE ENCENDIDO/APAGADOEl ensamble del interrup-tor de encendido/apagado se encuentra localizado arriba de la mesa de ali-mentación. Para encender la canteadora, presione el botón verde de encendido (Fig.23-A). Para apagar la herramienta presione el inte-rruptor rojo “OFF” (Fig.23-B). ADVERTENCIA: Haga el área de trabajo a prueba de niños quitando las llaves de encen-dido, desconectando herramientas de los re-ceptáculos eléctricos y usando candados.

BLOQUEANDO EL INTERRUPTOR EN EL MODO DE APAGADO (OFF)Cuando la canteadora no se encuentre en uso, el botón de encendido puede ser bloqueado para que no pueda ser encendida, colocando un candado en las ranuras que se encuentran a un lado de el botón de encendido. INSTRUCCIONES DE OPERACIÓN

PROTECTOR DE SOBRECARGASu canteadora se suministra con un interrup-tor de protección de sobrecarga (Fig.23-C). Este se encuentra en al lado del interruptor de encendido/apagado. Si el motor se apaga o no se enciende debido a una sobrecarga, apague la canteadora y deje que el motor se enfríe de tres a cinco minutos, y presione el botón de res-tablecimiento en el protector para restablecer el interruptor. El motor puede ser encendido nuevamente de forma habitual.Con estas instrucciones se dará al principiante las operaciones básicas de la canteadora. Uti-lice piezas de madera de desecho para verifi-car la configuración y para acostumbrarse a las operaciones antes de intentar un trabajo regular.

PRECAUCIÓN: Las cuchillas de la canteadora no se desgastarán uniformemente si alimenta la madera a través de la misma posición de la mesa. Alimente a través de la canteadora en distintos puntos de la mesa al reposicionar la guía siempre que sea posible, para ayudar a eliminar el desgaste irregular de las cuchillas. ADVERTENCIA: Siempre use la guarda de las cuchillas y mantenga las manos lejos del cabe-zal de corte. Siempre use bloques de empuje siempre que sea posible. Nunca haga cortes de canto y cepillado de más de 1/8” de profundi-dad en una sola pasada.

POSICIÓN DE LAS MANOS DURANTE LA ALI-MENTACIÓNAl inicio del corte, la mano izquierda debe sos-tene el trabajo firmemente contra la mesa de entrada y la guía, mientras que la mano dere-cha empuja el trabajo hacia las cuchillas. Después de que el corte está en marcha, la nueva superficie descansa firmemente sobre la mesa de salida. La mano izquierda se debe mover hacia el trabajo a la mesa de salida, al mismo tiempo manteniendo contacto con la guía. La mano derecha presiona el trabajo y hacia delante, y antes de que la mano derecha llegue al cabezal, esta debe ser movida hacia la pieza de trabajo al cabezal de la mesa. ADVERTENCIA: Nunca coloque las manos di-rectamente arriba del cabezal de corte.

DIRECCIÓN DE LA VETAEvitar el avance de la pieza de trabajo en la cantea-dora contra la veta de la madera. Ya que el hacer caso omiso de esta indicación resultará bordes as-tillados y desiguales. Alimente en el sentido de la veta para obtener una superficie lisa.

FUNCIONAMIENTO DE LA GUÍALa guía puede ser mo-vida a lo largo de la mesa, aflojando la pe-rilla (Fig.24-A) a una posición determinada.A medida que la guía se mueve a través de la mesa, la parte deslizante del soporte de la guía (B) guarda el cabezal de corte en la parte de atrás de la guía.

CANTEADO DE UN BORDEEsta es la operación más común para la can-teadora. Estos cortes se hacen para cuadrar un borde de una pieza de trabajo. Establece la guía encuadrada con la mesa. La profundidad de corte debe ser la mínima necesaria para ob-tener un corte recto. Mantenga la mejor cara de la pieza con firmeza contra la guía durante la operación (Fig.25).

ADVERTENCIA: Siempre utilice bloques de empuje cuando realice operaciones sobre la superficie y nunca coloque sus manos directa-mente encima del cabezal de corte. PRECAUCIÓN: La profundidad máxima de corte no debe ser menor que 1/8” en un solo pase.

CEPILLADOEl cepillado es similar a la función del canto, a excepción de la posición de la pieza de tra-bajo. Para el cepillado, la superficie de mayor tamaño se coloca en la mesa de alimentación

(Fig.26). La pieza de trabajo se mueve por la mesa de alimentación atravesando el cabezal de corte hacia el otro lado, realizando una su-perficie lisa en la pieza de trabajo.

PRECAUCIÓN: No realice una operación de canto en un material más corto que 10”, más angosto que ¾” o menos de ½” de grueso.

BISELADOPara realizar un corte de bisel, bloquee la guía a un ángulo deseado y haga el que el trabajo se mueva atravesando las cuchillos mientras mantiene la pieza de trabajo sostenida con firmeza contra la guía y las mesas. Tal vez ne-cesitara realizar varios pases para llegar al re-sultado deseado. Cuando el ángulo sea pequeño, habrá poca di-ferencia si la guía se haya inclinada hacia aden-tro o hacia afuera. Sin embargo, al angular cerca de los 45˚, cada vez es más difícil sostener la pieza de trabajo correctamente cuando la guía se inclina hacia fuera. La ventaja de que la guía cuente con doble inclinación, se verá reflejada en este tipo de condiciones. Al inclinar hacia adentro, la guía forma una V con las mesas, y la pieza de tra-bajo se descansa fácilmente en la ranura mien-tras la pasa entre las cuchillas. Si el bisel se presenta en la pieza de trabajo que implique que el corte vaya contra el grano, será mejor que la inclinación de la guía sea ha-cia afuera.

CORTE ESPECIAL (TIPO TAPER)Una de las operaciones mas útiles de la cantea-dora es corte estrecho en las orillas. Este mé-todo de trabajo puede ser usado en una amplia variedad de trabajos. Las patas de mesa anguladas para muebles, son un buen ejemplo de este tipo de trabajo.

En vez de poner la pieza en la mesa de alimen-tación, baje el extremo delantero de la pieza de trabajo a la mesa de salida. Haga esto con mucho cuidado, ya que la pieza abarcará las cuchillas, y estas podrían “morder” la pieza de trabajo y podría ocasionar un contragolpe amenos que la pieza de trabajo este sujetada firmemente. En seguida empuje la pieza de trabajo hacia delante como cualquier operación normal. La función será de quitar la superficie con las cuchillas, incrementando la profundidad y de-jando una superficie angulada. La cresta de-jada por las cuchillas cuando se inicio el corte puede ser eliminado haciendo un ligero corte de canto, con la mesa de alimentación elevada a su posición normal. La práctica es necesaria en esta operación, y al principiante se le recomienda hacer cortes de prueba en material de desecho. Cortes angu-lados de una parte de la longitud y una serie de otras operaciones especiales se puede hacer fácilmente por un artesano experimentado.

CEPILLADO DE PIEZAS DEFORMESSi la pieza de madera a cepillar esta cóncavo o deforme, realice cortes ligeros hasta que la superficie se aplane. Evite forzar este material hacia la mesa; una presión excesiva hara que rebote mientras pase por los cuchillos, y brin-cara hacia atrás manteniéndose curve después de que el corte se haya completado.

CORTES RANURADOSCuando haga un corte ranurado, asegúrese de que la guarda haya sido removida. PRECAUCIÓN: Después de que el corte ra-nurado ha sido completado vuelva a colocar la guarda en su lugar.1. Ajuste la guía para que la distancia entre el extremo de los cuchillos y la guía sea igual a la anchura de la ranura.2. Baje la mesa de alimentación una cantidad igual a la profundidad de la ranura. Si la ranura es muy profunda, puede ser necesario cortarlo en dos o más pasadas. En ese caso, la mesa se deberá bajar a una can-tidad igual a la mitad de la profundidad de la ranura para la primera pasada, después bajela nuevamente a una profundidad adecuada para completar el corte.

CEPILLADO DE PIEZAS DELGADAS O CORTAS PRECAUCIÓN: Cuando cepille piezas cortas o delgadas, siempre use bloques de empuje para reducir al mínimo el peligro para las manos. PRECAUCIÓN: No realice operaciones de ce-pillado en material que sea inferior a 10 pulga-das, más estrecho que 3/4”, más de ancho que 6 pulgadas, o menos de 1/2 pulgada de grosor .

• NO empiece a limpiar hasta que haya leído y entendido todas las instrucciones de limpieza.• No utilice materiales inflamables para la lim-pieza de la canteadora.

LIMPIEZA ADVERTENCIA: Con la máquina desconec-tada, sopletee el motor con aire a baja presión para quitar polvo o suciedad. Una presión de aire superior a los 50Psi no de debe ser usado ya que podría dañar el aislamiento de la má-quina. El operador siempre debe de usar protección ocular y respiratoria al momento de usar el aire comprimido. No permita que virutas o tierra se acumulen en la canteadora. Mantenga el área de trabajo limpia y segura. ADVERTENCIA: Apague la maquina y desco-necte de la fuente de poder antes de realizar cualquier tipo de mantenimiento y reparación.

LUBRICACIÓNEl motor de esta canteadora cuenta con bale-ros sellados y lubricados que no requieren de ninguna lubricación adicional por parte del operador. ADVERTENCIA: La reparación de la cantea-dora debe ser realizado solamente por perso-nal calificado. Contacte su centro de servicio autorizado URREA mas cercano. La reparación o reemplazo de partes no originales pueden causar daños serios al operador y a la cantea-dora.

AFILADO DE LAS CUCHILLASLas cuchillas de su canteadora son un tipo es-pecial de cuchillas que no pueden ser afiladas. Sin embargo estas cuchillas son de doble filo, asi que cuando se acabe el filo de la cuchilla simplemente voltee la cuchilla y use el otro filo de la cuchilla. Una vez que ambos lados de la

cuchilla han sido usados, las cuchillas DEBERÁN ser reemplazadas. A continuación se indican los pasos para cambiar las cuchillas:1. Comience en el centro de la cuchilla y quite el tornillo allen de 4 mm.2. Alterne lados mientras vaya aflojando los tornillos restantes a lo largo de la cuchilla.3. Retire la cuña negra de la cuchilla. El cuchi-llo bajo ahora puede ser quitado de los pines localizadores (2).4. De la vuelta al cuchillo si se necesita para ex-poner el borde nuevo y montar el cuchillo de nuevo en los pines localizadores (2).5. Coloque la cuña negra de la cuchilla sobre el cuchillo que tiene el lado angulado hacia arriba y el ángulo en la misma dirección que el filo de la navaja.6. Alinee el borde exterior de las navajas entre sí.7. Vuelva a colocar los tornillos Allen de 4mm (5) y apriete desde el centro, alternando los la-dos a medida que avanza. ASEGÚRESE DE QUE Los tornillos Allen sean apretados hasta el final del cabezal de corte.8. Repita este procedimiento para las tres cu-chillas.

• SOBRE LA OPERACIÓN DEL MOTOR Y DE LA MÁQUINA. El motor no enciende.Bajo voltaje. Verifique la conexión de la má-quina y que tenga el voltaje adecuado, ins-peccione todas las conexiones del motor por si alguna se encuentra suelta, o abierta.Circuito abierto en el motor o conexiones suel-tas. Vea la sección de conexión para verificar una conexión adecuada.

Fusibles o interruptores automáticos explotan.Existe un cortocircuito en el cable de alimen-tación o enchufe. Repare o reemplace el cable de alimentación.

El motor no trabaja a su máxima poten-cia (la salida del motor disminuye rápida-mente con el descenso del voltaje en las terminales del motor).El circuito de alimentación se sobrecarga con la luz, electrodomésticos, motores y otros. Re-duzca la carga del circuito.

volt plug attached to the switch with a UL/CSA listed plug suitable for 220 volts. The jointer with a 220 volt plug should only be connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. No adapter is available or should be used with the 220 volt plug. Once the modi-fication to has been made to the plug of the switch, be sure to follow the instructions under CHANGING MOTOR VOLTAGE for changing the motor voltage from 120 volt to 220 volt in the ADJUSTMENTS section of this manual.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS WARNING: This machine MUST BE GROUND-ED while in use to protect the operator from electric shock.In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, GROUNDING provides the path of least resis-tance for electric current and reduces the risk of electric shock. The plug MUST be plugged into a matching electrical receptacle that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with ALL local codes and ordinances.If a plug is provided with your machine DO NOT modify the plug. If it will not fit your electrical receptacle, have a qualified electri-cian install the proper connections to meet all electrical codes local and state. All connections must also adhere to all of OSHA mandates.

IMPROPER ELECTRICAL CONNECTION of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in risk of electric shock. The conductor with the green insulation (with or without yellow stripes) is the equipment-grounding conductor. DO NOT connect the equipment-grounding conductor to a live terminal if repair or replace-ment of the electric cord or plug is necessary.Check with a qualified electrician or service personnel if you do not completely understand the grounding instructions, or if you are not sure the tool is properly grounded.

PLUGS/RECEPTACLES WARNING: Electrocution or fire could result if this machine is not grounded properly or if the electrical configuration does not comply with local and state electrical codes.• MAKE CERTAIN the machine is disconnected from power source before starting any electri-cal work.

EXTENSION CORDS WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire or elec-trical shock, use the proper gauge of extension cord. When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your machine will draw.

The smaller the gauge-number, the larger the diameter of the extension cord is. If in doubt of the proper size of an extension cord, use a shorter and thicker cord. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in a loss of power and overheating. CAUTION: USE ONLY a 3-wire extension cord that has a 3-prong grounding plug and a 3-pole receptacle that accepts the machine’s plug.If you are using an extension cord outdoors, be sure it is marked with the suffix “W-A” (“W” in Canada) to indicate that it is acceptable for outdoor use.Make certain the extension cord is properly sized, and in good electrical condition. Always replace a worn or damaged extension cord im-mediately or have it repaired by a qualified person before using it.Protect your extension cords from sharp ob-jects, excessive heat, and damp or wet areas.The table below shows the correct size to use, depending on cord length and nameplate am-perage rating of tools. IMPORTANT: The machine is heavy, two peo-ple are required to unpack and lift. Use a safety strap to avoid tip over when lifting machine.Check shipping carton and machine for dam-age before unpackaging. Carefully remove packaging materials, parts and machine from shipping carton. Always check for and remove protective shipping materials around motors and moving parts. Lay out all parts on a clean work surface. Remove any protective materi-als and coatings from all of the parts and the jointer.The protective coatings can be removed by spraying “Multipurpose lubricant“ on them and wiping it off with a soft cloth. This may need to be redone several times before all of the protective coatings are removed complete-ly. After cleaning, apply a good quality paste wax to any unpainted surfaces. Make sure to buff out the wax before assembly. Compare the items to inventory figures; verify that all items are accounted for before discarding the shipping box.

WARNING: If any parts are missing, do not attempt to plug in the power cord and turn “ON” the machine. The machine should only be turned “ON” after all the parts have been obtained and installed correctly.

ASSEMBLING MOBILE BASE WHEELS1. Turn the Base (Fig.1-A) upside down and mount the 2 non-swiveling wheels (B) to the base using one M8x50mm Hex head screw and one M8 flat washer for each wheel. 2. Attach the leveling feet (C) to the base by screwing the threaded portion of the foot into the threaded holes in the base.3. Attach the swiveling foot pedal (Fig.2-D) to the base using two M8 x 20mm Carriage bolts and two M8 hex nuts.4. Turn the base back over so that the wheels are on the ground and adjust the leveling feet until the unit does not rock or wobble.

MOUNTING JOINTER TO BASE IMPORTANT: The machine is heavy, two peo-ple are required to unpack and lift. Use a safety strap to avoid tip over when lifting machine.

1. Remove the access panel on the rear of the jointer by removing the six M6 Phillips head screws that fasten the panel. Be sure the cut-terhead pulley on the motor is in line with the cutout in the top of the stand so the drive belt can pass through.2. Using a helper, lift the jointer onto the stand (Fig.3).3. The jointer attaches with three M10 x 25mm socket head cap screws, three M10 lock wash-ers and three M10 flat washers. Two are accessible through the panel in the rear of the jointer. The third is accessed through the dust chute (Fig. 4-B).4. Tighten all three screws securely using the supplied hex wrench.

ASSEMBLING BELT AND ALIGNING PULLEYS1. Place a straight edge along the face of the motor pulley and the cutterhead pul-ley. Make certain that they are aligned. If an adjustment is necessary, you can reposi-tion the motor pulley on the shaft of the motor by loosening the set screw on the mo-tor pulley and moving the motor pulley un-til it is aligned with the cutterhead pulley.2. Place the V-belt onto the cutterhead pulley (Fig.5-A).3. Position the V belt over the motor pul-ley (Fig.5-C). It may be necessary to repo-sition the motor in order to get the belt onto the motor pul-ley. If this is the case, loosen the 4 bolts (not shown) that fasten the motor to the dust chute and reposition the motor until the belt can be fitted onto the mo-tor pulley. Retighten bolts.NOTE: If it is necessary to move the motor, be sure to recheck pulley alignment after doing so.4. Once the belt is positioned on both pulleys, check the belt tension by squeezing the belt at its midpoint. Proper tension is achieved when there is approximately 1” deflection at the cen-ter span of the belt using light finger pressure.5. If an adjustment is necessary, raise or lower the motor until proper tension is achieved.

WARNING: The outside edge of the pulley must never be extended past the end of the motor shaft in any circumstance.

ADJUSTING BELT TENSION1. Correct belt tension is obtained when there is approximately 1” deflection at the center span of the belt using light finger pressure.2. If an adjustment is required, the motor can be raised or lowered to obtain the correct belt tension.3. Tighten motor mounting hardware after tension is applied, making sure alignment of the pulleys is not disturbed.4. Replace the cutterhead pulley guard.

ASSEMBLING FENCE CARRIAGE ASSEMBLY WARNING: Make certain that the machine is disconnected from the power source.1. Place fence carriage assembly (Fig.6-A) on top of the jointer. Align the slot (B) in the fence carriage as-sembly with the slot (C) in the jointer top.2. Place knob washer on the locking knob shaft and insert lock-ing knob (Fig.7-D) through the two slot and fasten using special nut (Fig.8-E). Make certain that the two prongs on the special nut fit into the slot on the jointer. 3. Screw Fence Ad-justing Knob into the threaded hole on the top of the fence.

ASSEMBLING CUTTERHEAD GUARD WARNING: Make certain that the machine is disconnected from the power source. CAUTION: The cutterhead guard has a ten-sion return spring. The tension on this spring is set at the factory. When the guard is installed properly it should return to the fence automat-ically after the workpiece has passed over the cutterhead. Be sure the guard is functioning properly before using the jointer.

1. Removing the screw (Fig.9-A) from the post (B) of the cutter-head guard (D).2. Attach the cutter-head guard to the jointer by placing the post through the hole (Fig.10-E) in the jointer. 3. Turn knob (C) on the underside of the hole ½ turn to put tension on the return spring. This spring allows

the guard to return over the cutterhead after the cut has been made.4. Align the slot in the post with the spring, then insert post.5. Check that the guard return completely over the cutterhead. If it does not, remove the guard and add another ½ turn to knob (C). Replace guard just like you did in step 4 and recheck.6. Thread screw removed in step 1 into the cut-terhead guard post. This screw keeps the guard in place.Test the guard and be sure it springs back to the fence when pulled out. Test with the fence in its furthest position from the guard. Make it a habit to check this important safety feature every time before Using the jointer.

ASSEMBLING DUST PORT1. The jointer stand has a built in dust chute. If this machine is to be hooked up to a dust collection system, the supplied dust port can be fastened to the jointer stand us-ing four M6x8mm pan head screws and four flat washers (Fig.11). 2. A standard dust collection hose can now be attached to this port.NOTE: DO NOT ATTACH THE DUST PORT IF YOU DO NOT PLAN TO CONNECT THE JOINTER TO ADUST COLLECTION SYSTEM.

ATTACHING SWITCH1. Fasten the switch as-sembly to the rear of the jointer using two M6 x 15mm socket head cap Screws and two M6 external toth washers (Fig.12).2. Insert the cord through the hole (Fig.13-A) in the jointer stand and at-tach to the pigtail on the jointer.3. Reattach panel on the rear of the jointer base.

HANDWHEEL ASSEMBLYThe purpose of the handwheels is to raise and lower the outfeed and infeed tables. The pro-cedure for installation is the same for both the infeed and outfeed sides of the jointer.

To install:1. The key (Fig.14-A) pan head screw (B) and flat washer (C) should already be at-tached to the shaft.2. Remove the pan head screw and flat washer.Remove the tape from the key.3. Insert the handwheel onto the shaft making sure that the notch in the handwheel lines up with the key on the shaft.4. Fasten the handwheel to the shaft using panhead screw and flat washer removed in step 2.5. Thread the handle (Fig.15-D) into the threaded hole (E) in the handwheel.

INFEED TABLE ADJUSTMENTSTo raise or lower the infeed table, loosen in-feed table lock handle (Fig.16-B) and turn the table raising and lowering handwheel (A) until the table is at the desired position and tighten infeed table lock handle.

INFEED POSITIVE STOPThere is a safety fea-ture that will not al-low the infeed table to drop below a 1/8-in depth of cut. This stop (Fig.17-A) is located on the rear of the jointer.

Once the jointer hits a depth of 1/8”, the spring loaded knob snaps into a hole in the infeed table. To make the infeed table go lower than this, you will have to pull out on the knob as you lower the table.

OUTFEED TABLE ADJUSTMENTS WARNING: DISCONNECT MACHINE FROM POWER SOURCE.The outfeed table must be exactly level with the knives when the knives are at their high-est point of revolution. To move the outfeed table, loosen outfeed table lock handle (Fig.16-C) and turn the table raising and lowering handwheel (D) until the table is level with the knives. When the outfeed table is exactly level with the knives at their highest point of revolu-tion, tighten outfeed table lock handle.

ATTACHING CUTTERHEAD PULLEY GUARD WARNING: DISCONNECT MACHINE FROM POWER SOURCE.The cutterhead pul-ley guard is attached to the jointer using four M6 x 10mm Phil-lips pan head flange screws (Fig.18-A).

ADJUSTING FENCE POSITIVE STOPSThe fence on your jointer is equipped with positive stops at the most used fence positions of 90 degrees and 45 degrees in and out. To check and adjust the positive stops, proceed as follows: WARNING: Make certain that the machine is disconnected from the power source.1. Position the fence at 90 degrees to the table by loosening the bevel lock handle (Fig.19-D) and moving the fence until 90 degree stop screw (A) hits the stop (E).

2. Using a square, check to see if the fence is at 90 degrees to the table.3. If the fence is not at 90 degrees, loosen nut (D)and adjust the stop screw (B) until the fence is at 90 degrees to the table. Retighten nut (D).4. Tilt the fence in-ward until it hits the 45 degree in stop nut (Fig.19-E).5. Using a combina-tion square, check to see if the fence is indeed tilted in at 45 degrees (Fig.20).6. If an adjustment is necessary, tighten or loosen the stop nut (E) until the fence is at 45 degrees.7. Tilt the fence outward to 45 degrees. To do this you will have to flip the 90 degree stop (Fig.16-C) out of the way so that it faces to-wards the infeed table.8. Using a combina-tion square, check to see if the fence is tilted at 45 degrees (Fig.21).9. If an adjustment is necessary, loosen the hex nut located on the 45 degree stop and adjust the stop screw until the fence is at 45 degrees to the table.

CHANGING MOTOR VOLTAGE WARNING: Make sure that the jointer is dis-connected from the power source. Have a certi-fied electrician make all electrical connections.

The motor supplied with the jointer is a dual voltage 120/220 volt, single phase motor. The motor is wired from the factory for 120 volt operation. To change to 220 volt operation for your jointer, proceed with the following instructions. It is also necessary to replace the 120 volt plug, supplied with the jointer, with a UL/CAS listed plug (not included) suitable for 220 volts and the rated current of the motor. The jointer with a 220 volt plug should only be connected to an outlet having the same con-figuration as the plug. No adapter is available or should be used with the 220 volt plug.1. Make sure the switch is “OFF” and discon-nect power cord from power source.

2. Unscrew the six screws that fasten the access panel to the base of the jointer and remove access panel.3. If motor tag states that it is dual voltage remove Junction box cover (Fig.22-A) on motor.4. Using wiring dia-gram on inside of junction box cover,reconnect motor leads for 220-volt operation.5. Replace junction box cover and reattach panel removed on step 2.6. Replace the 120 volt plug with a plug rated for 220 volt operation.7. The ON/OFF switch is 4-pole and does not need Modified.

IMPORTANT: Permit only trained and autho-rized employees to operate equipment. Inspect and maintain guards, safety devices and start/stop controls. Instruct, train and supervise the safe method of work.

ON/OFF SWITCHThe START / STOP switch assembly is located above the infeed table. To turn the jointer “ON”. push the green start button (Fig.23-A). Fig.23

To turn the jointer “OFF”, push the red stop paddle (B). WARNING: Childproof the workshop area by removing switch keys, unplugging tools from the electrical receptacles, and using padlocks.

LOCKING SWITCH IN THE ”OFF” POSITIONWhen the jointer is not in use, the start button can be locked so that it cannot be started, us-ing a padlock through the holes in the side of the start button.

CIRCUIT BREAKERYour jointer is supplied with a resettable circuit breaker (Fig.23-C). It is located on the side of the start/stop switch box. If the motor shuts off or fails to start due to an overload condition, turn the jointer “OFF”, let the motor cool for three to five minutes, and push the reset but-ton on the circuit breaker to reset the breaker. The motor can then be turned on again in the usual manner.The following directions will give the beginner a start on jointer operations. Use scrap pieces of lumber to check settings and to get the feel of the operations before attempting regular work.

CAUTION: The knives on the jointer will not wear evenly by feeding the wood through the same spot on the table every time. Feed the wood through the jointer at different spots on the table by repositioning the fence when possible, to help eliminate uneven wear of the knives. WARNING: Always use cutterhead guard and keep hands away from cutterhead. Always use push blocks whenever possible. Never make jointing and planing cuts deeper than 1/8” in one pass.

PLACEMENT OF HANDS DURING FEEDINGAt the start of the cut, the left hand holds the work firmly against the infeed table and fence, while the right hand pushes the work toward the knives. After the cutis underway, the new surface rests firmly on the outfeed table. The left hand should then be moved to the work on the out-feed table, at the same time maintaining flat contact with the fence.

The right hand presses the work forward, and before the right hand reaches the cutterhead, it should be moved to the work on the outfeed table. WARNING: Never pass hands directly over the cutterhead.

DIRECTION OF GRAINAvoid feeding work into the jointer against the grain. The result will be chipped and splin-tered edges. Feed with the grain to obtain a smooth surface.

FENCE OPERATIONThe fence can be moved across the ta-ble by loosening the lock knob (Fig.24-A), moving the fence to the desired position, and retightening the lock knob securely. As the fence is moved across the table, the slid-ing portion of the fence bracket (B) guards the cutterhead in back of the fence.

JOINTING AN EDGEThis is the most common operation for the jointer. These cuts are made to square an edge of a workpiece. Set the guide fence square with the table. Depth of cut should be the minimum required to obtain a straight edge. Hold the best face of the piece firmly against the fence throughout the feed as shown in Fig. 25.

WARNING: Always use push blocks when performing surfacing iperations and never pass your hands directly over the cutterhead. CAUTION: Maximum depth of cut should not be more than 1/8” in one pass.

SURFACINGSurfacing is similar to the edge jointing opera-tion except for the position of the workpiece.For surfacing, the major flat surface of the workpiece is placed on the infeed table of the jointer with the narrow edge of the workpiece against the fence, as shown in Fig. 26.

The workpiece is moved from the infeed table, across the cutterhead to the outfeed table, es-tablishing a flat surface on the workpiece. CAUTION: Do not perform jointing opera-tions on material shorter than 10 inches, nar-rower than ¾ inch, or less than ½ inch thick.

BEVELINGTo cut a bevel, lock the fence at the required angle and run the work across the knives while keeping the work firmly against the fence and tables. Several passes may be necessary to arrive at the desired result. When the angle is small, there is little difference whether the fence is tilted in or out. However, at greater angles ap-proaching 45 degrees, it is increasingly difficult to hold the work properly when the fence is tilted out. The advantage of the double-tilting fence is appreciated under such conditions. When tilted in, the fence forms a V-shape with the tables, and the work is easily pressed into the pocket while passing it across the knives. If the bevel is laid out on the piece in such direction that this involves cutting against the grain, it will be better to tilt the fence out.

TAPER CUTSOne of the most useful jointer operations is cutting an edge to a taper. This method can be used on a wide variety of work. Tapered legs of furniture are a common example. Instead of

laying the piece on the infeed table, lower the forward end of the work onto the outfeed ta-ble. Do this very carefully, as the piece will span the knives, and they will take a “bite” from the work with a tendency to kick back unless the piece is firmly held. Now push the work forward as in ordinary jointing. The effect is to surface off all the stock in front of the knives, to increasing depth, leaving a tapered surface. The ridge left by the knives when starting the taper may be removed by taking a very light cut according to the regular method for joint-ing, with the infeed table raised to its usual position. Practice is required in this operation, and the beginner is advised to make trial cuts on waste material. The experienced craftsman can easily do taper cuts over part of the length and a number of other special operations.

SURFACING WARPED PIECESIf the wood to be surfaced is dished or warped, take light cuts until the surface is flat. Avoid forcing such material down against the table; excessive pressure will spring it while passing the knives, and it will spring back and remain curved after the cut is completed.

CUTTING A RABBETWhen making a rabbet cut, the cutterhead guard must be removed. CAUTION: After the rabbet cut is completed, be certain guard is replaced.1. Adjust the fence so that the distance be-tween the end of the knives and the fence is equal to the width of the rabbet.2. Lower the infeed table an amount equal to the depth of the rabbet. If the rabbet is quite deep, it may be necessary to cut it in two or more passes. In that event, the table is low-ered an amount equal to about half the depth of the rabbet for the first pass, then lowered again to proper depth to complete the cut.

SURFACING SHORT OR THIN WORK CAUTION: When surfacing short or thin pieces, always use push blocks to minimize all danger to the hands. CAUTION: Do not perform surfacing opera-tions on material shorter than 10 inches, nar-rower than 3/4 inch, wider than 6 inches, or less than 1/2 inch thick.”

• DO NOT begin cleaning up until you have read and understand all of the clean up in-structions.• Do not use flammable materials to clean jointer.

CLEANING WARNING: With the machine unplugged, blow off motor with low pressure air to re-move dust or dirt. Air pressure above 50 P.S.I. should not be used as high-pressured air may damage insulation. The operator should always wear a respirator and eye protection when using compressed air. Do not allow chips and dust to accumulate un-der jointer. Keep area clean and in safe order.

WARNING: Turn the power switch “OFF” and unplug the power cord from its power source prior to any maintenance.

LUBRICATIONThe jointer has sealed lubricated bearings in the motor housing that do not require any ad-ditional lubrication from the operator. WARNING: Repairs to the jointer should be performed by trained personnel only. Contact your nearest service center. Unauthorized re-pairs or replacement with non-factory parts could cause serious injury to the operator and damage to the jointer.

SHARPENING KNIVESThe knives on your jointer are a special quick-set type and can not be sharpened. The knives, however, are double sided, so when one edge of the knives goes dull, you can simply flip the blade around and use the other edge of the knife. Once both sides have been used, the knives MUST be replaced. The following procedure details how to either flip over an existing set of knives or how to in-stall a new set of knives:1. Start in the center of the knife gib and re-move the M6x16mm allen head screw.2. Alternate sides as you loosen the remaining screws along the length of the gib3. Remove the black knife gib. The knife below can now be lifted off of the (2) locating pins.

4. Flip the knife over if necessary to expose new edge nd mount the knife back on the (2) locating pins.5. Place the black knife gib over the knife with the angled side up and the angle in the same direction as the knife edge.6. Line the outside edges of the knife up with each other.7. Replace the (5) 4mm Allen head screws and tighten from the center out alternating sides as you go. MAKE CERTAIN THAT THE ALLEN HEAD SCREWS are tightened all the way into the cutterhead.8. Repeat this procedure for all three knives.

• MOTOR AND MACHINE OPERATIONMotor will not start.Low voltage. Check power line for proper volt-age.Open circuit in motor or loose connections. In-spect all lead connections on motor for loose or open connections.

Fuses or circuit breakers blow.Short circuit in line cord or plug. Repair or re-place cord or plug for damaged insulation and shorted wires.

Motor fails to develop full power (output of motor decreases rapidly with decrease in voltage at motor terminals).Power supply circuit overloaded with lights, appliances, and other motors. Reduce load on circuit.Undersized wires or circuits too long. Increase wire sizes or reduce length of the circuit.

Motor overheats.Motor overloaded during operation. Reduce load on motor; take lighter cuts.Air circulation through the motor restricted. Clean out motor to provide normal air circula-tion.
