Mercu ry Bo t te ry Lood ing
Before using your Canonet G-I I I17, load the mercury bat tery.
To open cover of the battery com-partment, insert a f ingernai l in theopen s lo t , s l id ing the cover in thedirect ion of the arrow. By using as l igh t pu l l ou tward , the cover w i l lopen.

Canon's Exclusive Ouick-LoadinS (Ot) mecha-
nism in the Canonet G-I I I 17 accepts any
standard 35mm f i lm rol l in cart r idge. When
loading new f i lm, a lways avoid d i rect sun-
l i gh t .
To release the latch of the back cover, raise
the f i lm rewind crank, and pul l i t a l l the
way up.

Open the cover fu l ly . When the back cover
is opened, the OL cover opens s imul taneously.
Face the f i lm cart r idge as i l lustrated in the
l ine drawing inside the back cover, and insert
i t in to the cart r idge compartment. Push the
crank back to i ts normal Posi t ion.

Lay the tip of the fi lm leader above the"amber" f i lm set mark.
I The OL cover automat ical ly opens and
closes with the back cover. Do not touch
the OL cover.

Bring down the OL cover to hold the f i lmin place by c losing the back cover.
Look through the sprocket window to see i fthe f i lm is correct ly engaged wi th thesprocket.
I l f the f i lm is sagging, turn the f i lm rewindcrank c lockwise.
Close the back cover completely.

The f i lm i s wound up i f t he co lo r o f t hef i lm indicator turns red. The indicator turns
whi te when the shut ter is re leased.

Film Speed Settinglmmediately af ter loading f i lm, be sure to
set the ASA f i lm speed scale in the proper
posi t ion by pressing the notched f i lm speed
sett ing lever wi th your f ingernai l , matching
the proper f i lm speed number wi th the index
of the ASA f i lm speed indicator window.
I The higher the f i lm speed number, the
more sensi t ive the f i lm; the lower i t is , the
-ffiae- Canonef antz frless sensi t ive. For example, the ASA 400 f i lm
is better for shooting at low light level than
the ASA 100 f i lm .

absolutely no necessi ty to worry aboutgu ide numbers. N ight or indoor photography
is now as easy as dayl ight photography usingthe Cano l i te D.
By s imp ly a t tach ing the Cano l i te D, thecamera, wh i le set at " A" , is swi tched overto the automat ic f lash contro l c i rcui t , andthe proper f/stop corresponding to the shoot-ing distance is automat ical ly set .

The Canonet G-I I I 17 has both a di rectcontact
accessory shoe and convent ional f lash socket .
Automat ic f lash photography is possib le wi th
f lash bu lbs and e lec t ron ic f lash un i ts o ther

Insert the f lash into the accessory shoe and
connect i t s cord i f i t i s no t a cord less un i t .

Three gu ide numbers are engraved in b lue on
the aper tu re r ing . They are fo r ASA 100 f i lm
and d is tance in meters . For convers ion to
ASA 25 and feet see the conversion table
below. With f lash bulbs, set the shut ter speed
to 1/30 sec. Any speed may be used wi th
e lec t ron ic f lash un i ts .

electronic f lash uni t or f lash bulb when theproper f/stop is set according to the guide
number, there is a heavy drain on the mercury
battery. Therefore, be sure to return the aper-
ture r ing to the " ̂ " posi t ion af ter shoot ing.

the shut ter but ton cannot be depressed.

For manual contro l of the aperture, re lease
the aperture r ing f rom the "A" posi t ion. The
shutter speed and f/stop can be freely set for
achieving specia l ized technical ef fects. With
the Canonet G-I I I 17, specia l ef fects in h igh
tone or low tone can be obtained in the same
manner as with more professional cameras.

The Canone t G- I I I 17 has a bu i l t - i n se l f - t imer .To operate the sel f - t imer, turn the sel f - t imerleve r i n the d i rec t i on o f the a r row un t i l i ts tops. The shut ter wi l l be re leased approxi-mately 1O seconds af ter the shut ter but tonhas been pressed.

shutter button is pressed and wil l close when
the shr. l t ter button is released.
I When an extended t ime exposure is being
made, use the Canon Release, and t r ipod,
to avoid b lurred pictures.

F i lm Rew ind i n g
When the f i lm reaches the end and the f i lm
advance lever stops, rewind the f i lm into
the cart r idge as soon as possib le. Be sure
not to open the back cover before rewinding;
otherwise, the ent i re ro l l wi l l be exposed
and ruined s ince the f i lm wi l l be exposed
with in the camera.
To rewind, press in the rewind but ton.
Ra ise the f i lm rew ind c rank , tu rn ing i t i n
the di rect ion of the arrow, unt i l the f i lm is
completely rewound in the cart r idge.

rewinding when red and whi te l ines cease
to f l icker.
