Welcome Our Newest Member
March is synonymous with St Patricks
day and this particular Paddies day just
so happened to fall on our Tuesday
meeting. As a multi cultural nation, we
need no excuse to drink, celebrate and
be merry! However library policy cate-
gorically states “no booze”. (Have you
ever annoyed a Librarian? It ain’t
pretty). So, green water was the best
we could do!

The Evaluation & International Contests
The Month of March was all about competition! Diana Veitch & Verdine Gow won the
Evaluation & International contests at club level as well as the Area S31 Final, making it to
the Southern Division Final. Verdine was ’Good Enough’ but unfortunately we will not see
him, nor Diana, on the podium at Kalgoorlie. Contests however, are much more than
winning, They make you step out of your comfort zone and embark on that never ending
journey of learning & discovery. See you all next year competing & growing!
Anne Go was the contest chair
and Diana Veitch won our
Canning Vale club Evaluation
contest.
A full house at the Area S31 final. Verdine
Gow & Diana Veitch did us proud & are
shown here with their winners certificates.
St Patrick’s Day Meeting #337
A very unusual St
Patrick’s
beverage...green
water! YES!
No alcohol added!
What do you call an Irishman who has been dead 50 year?........Peat!
The doctor was puzzled ‘I’m very sorry Mr Flaherty, but I cant diagnose your trouble. Must be
the drink’. ‘Ah don’t you worry about it Dr Cullen, I’ll come back when you’re sober.’
Where would we be without the Irish jokes? Meeting 337 fell on the auspicious St Patrick’s
Day, commemorating the patron saint of Ireland. All tings green (including the water & supper)
where on the agenda along with our newest, greenest Toastmaster, Michelle Duncan, who
delivered an amazing ICEBREAKER and Jay Thwaites did his very first Tonic!
Andre’s WORD OF THE
DAY….Leprechaun (A mythological
creature) was a perfect match for his
green attire. Miss Venezuela, aka Eloyise,
delivered an awesome table topic as a Miss
Universe contestant—her ideal man would
be a Leprechaun with a pot of gold!
Don’t seek approval from others.
Let others disprove themselves.

Tapping in on Meeting #338
Meeting 338 gave us a plethora of speech topics from the perfect storm to how to dance up a storm at
the tap dance studio. Sheldon was our first time Toastmaster and did a superb job keeping his
collywobbles at bay.
CVTM Tap Studio
presents the one &
only, Elena Lindgren.
Body speaks & toes
tap in her CC5.
If you build it, they will come!
Mark’s catch call tells us about the
inception of CVTM. He has built it,
& people keep coming to our little
club!
Dennis told us about the
gangster side of mother
nature & the recipe for a
perfect storm.
Mathew presented the dark side of
video games. Maybe psychopaths
should avoid violent video games for
the sake of humanity!
Wish I had never
been asked
THAT!!!
Huili tells us about her
perfect wedding
Word of the Day...
Collywobbles: a
feeling of FEAR!
One we can
relate to @ TM!
We all start our Toastmasters
journey with 2 manuals—The
Competent Communicator &
Competent Leadership. With every
role you perform (from Timer to
Toastmaster) you can be evaluated
and get closer to being recognized
as a Competent Leader.
Well done Rahman Khandker! Another
of our amazing Canning Vale members
completes the 10th speech in the
Competent Communicator Manual!

Just a Few Questions for Josh……..
Josh’s CC6 project speech titled Sailing the Seven Seas did require the blankets,
as it was a really cool speech! He told us about his dream to be an Officer in the
Navy and to improve his chances of getting through a grueling selection process,
it was suggested he check out Toastmasters. An intensive one on one session
with our very own Mark Richards, brought him up to speed and gave him what he
needed to be accepted. This guy demonstrates thinking out of the box skills
(necessary of a good officer!) sporting his bit of ‘green’ on St Patrick’s.
Officer training for Josh starts in July. The awesome one liners will be missed!
Why did you join Canning Vale Toastmasters?
The selection process for officer training is tough
and it was the Navy that suggested I should join
Toastmasters. I found Canning Vale Toastmasters
online.
This is a family affair as your mum also joined
CVTM also. Does she help you with speeches?
How has Toastmasters helped you?
It got me a job! It’s also helped with confidence,
evaluating other’s ideas & learning to give feedback
properly.
What stuff do you like?
Kite surfing and aerial photography.
Will you continue with Toastmasters when you leave
Perth in July?
I will have to take a 6 months break when officer
training starts, but will look into joining another club
in the future.
Now get your blankets
out......this is where it gets
cool. REAL COOL!
