Thoughts and feelings, fears, strengths and weaknesses as you

begin student teaching

Thoughts and Fears:

I am excited about student teaching. I am looking forward to working with fourth graders!I am most nervous about the fourth grade curriculum and how it actually translates from paper to classroom.I am also nervous about fitting in with the other teachers.

Strengths and Weaknesses:

One of my strengths is that I have classroom experience.I am very organized. I am a mother of three children and I have a perspective as well as a teachers. My number one weakness is my lack of self confidence! My other weakness is my lack of knowledge in technology.

How my Philosophy Statement has Changed

Before After“I will teach to the needs and learning styles of each child ……builds up their self confidence while cultivating a love for learning.

Although teachers might strive to attain this goal, I have come to realize that it is not realistic in the “real” classroom. I have learned that it is also unrealistic to believe that we as

teachers can always motivate that uninterested child.

Continuing Plan to Develop as a Professional Educator

•Since technology is a weakness of mine, I hope to take as many technology courses as possible. It is not just enough to keep up with the technology, but I must be ahead of my students in order to teach them.

•I will continue to seek out other teachers and collaborate with them. I feel that as colleagues we must work together to share ideas and techniques in the areas of assessments, lessons, classroom management and student support.

•I would love to attend the Ron Clark Academy. I would love to learn to capture my students attention the way the academy does and never let it go.

Advise to Future Candidate Teachers

•My number one advise to future candidate teachers is to be flexible! There is one thing I can guarantee, and that is, things will not always go as planned.

•Be patient with your students and YOURSELF. I can only assume that it takes teaching for a while to get into a rhythm. It is easy to get frustrated. Remember, don’t expect perfection the minute you step in the classroom!

•Organization, organization, organization! It helps to be organized, as I have found out that everything takes so much longer than I expect it to and it is easy to get behind.

•Lastly, find good classmates. It helps to have a small group in which to collaborate and support each other.
