GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

This paper consists of two parts: Part A, Group Interaction; and Part B, Individual Response. Part B will immediately follow Part A. DO NOT write anything on this page.

PART A Group Interaction

You will be given 10 minutes to prepare. The time allowed for the group interaction is 8 minutes (or 6 minutes for a group of 3 candidates). You may make notes on the notecard provided and refer to your notes during the interaction.

Below is an extract from a report on cyberbullying:

Cyberbullying

More and more teenagers are getting involved in cyberbullying. It happens when a teen is ‘targeted’ to be threatened or embarrassed by another teen using the Internet, digital technologies or mobile phones. Bombardment of instant text messages and uploading bullying videos on video sharing websites are some of the common ways used for this malicious purpose.

Sometimes teenagers get involved in cyberbullying because they are bored and have too much time. They either want a laugh or get a reaction. Some do it by accident, as they send a message to the wrong recipient. Cyberbullying is usually not a one-off communication. It can also come on a 24/7 basis. The cyberbully may also become a victim. The teenagers often change roles, going from victim to bully and back again. In some extreme cases, teenagers have killed each other and committed suicide after having been involved in a cyberbullying incident.

Often when schools try to get involved by intervening, they fail. Since cyberbullying often takes place off-campus and outside of school hours, schools can do nothing to hinder school children’s freedom of speech.

Your group wants to prepare a presentation on cyberbullying in your school entitled ‘Say No to Cyberbullying’. Discuss with your group what will be included in the presentation. You may want to talk about: • examples of cyberbullying • effects or consequences of cyberbullying • what the victims can do • anything else you think is important

PART B Individual Response

The examiner will ask you one or more questions based on Part A. You will have up to 1 minute to respond.
