CANCER SHOP USA Goes “Live” “The First and Only Patient Requested- Doctor Approved On-Line Store to Offer
Products to Help with the Side Effects of Chemo and Radiation”
West Palm Beach, FL (February 20, 2011) Cancer Shop USA, the first and only patient
requested, doctor approved on-line store to offer products to help patients with the side
effects of chemo and radiation, has now gone “live.”
The physician approved on-line store was first conceived by Dr. Melanie Bone, while
going through treatments of her own after being diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer.
“I was barely 40 years old with 4 children under the age of 6 when I underwent a bilateral
mastectomy with reconstruction, 6 months of chemotherapy, and 6 weeks of radiation,”
said Dr. Bone, OB/GYN, and FACOG. “Even though I am a doctor and surgeon, I
learned firsthand about the side effects of cancer treatment. I was too sick to work so I
spent time thinking about how to make the cancer experience easier for future cancer
patients.”
According to Dr. Bone, Cancer Shop USA is a unique on-line store for all cancer needs.
From recovery clothing to mouth care products and radiation burn creams to nutritional
supplements and densely-caloric food items, Cancer Shop USA strives to be the “leader
in comfort care” for patients, family, and friends.
“We pride ourselves on offering one-of-a-kind items which are not normally found
elsewhere,” said Susan Harrison, Cancer Shop USA director of Merchandising. “The
product line is extremely practical and appropriate, making excellent gifts for patients
and caregivers.”
Offering more than 300 specialty items, with many products inspired and developed by
cancer patients and survivors, each item is reviewed and endorsed by a physician to make
sure the product is safe for all patients.
As an example, one of the newest cancer products on the market, both inspired and
developed by a cancer patient is The SHOWER SHIRT. A Class 1 Medical Device, the
product is the first and only anti-microbial, water-resistant garment to protect mastectomy
patients while showering, and before the surgical drains are removed.
“It’s important that mastectomy drain sites don’t get wet post-surgery,” said Dr. Bone.
“Taking a shower without protecting the drain sites can be problematic as water is laden
with bacteria which in turn can cause infection to the patient. The Shower Shirt is a great
product to protect breast cancer patients from water intrusion to the surgical sites.”
Cancer Shop USA also provides a myriad of clinical information on care giving tips and
inspirational quotes from survivors, basically a ‘go to’ resource for many cancer-related
questions.
“We want consumers to know that a lot of research and clinical knowledge has gone into
creating this site to help cancer patients, both from a personal, as well as a professional
perspective,” added Dr. Bone.
A portion of the sales from Cancer Shop USA is donated to ‘The Cancer Sensibility
Foundation,’ whose mission is: To encourage a sensible approach to cancer and promote
a new perception of the disease as treatable and often curable; and also to educate the
public about cancer etiquette and provide support to cancer patients, families, and friends.
