Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS)

What we doThe Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) connects Indian companies with Canadian technology and suppliers and assists Indian companies in setting up operations in Canada.

Trade Commissioners at our eight offices across India are available to assist Indian companies in identifying their needs and matching Canadian partners. Our work is confidential, and free of charge.

If your company is looking for a reliable source of competitive advantage, please talk to us.

Canada is the ideal location from which your company can serve clients in the USA and Europe. Through our extensive trade agreements, Canada has preferential access to markets in North America, the European Union, Israel, South Korea, and a host of other countries worldwide.

Canada is also a source of highly qualified talent, especially in artificial intelligence. As an example, Toronto has the highest concentration of AI startups in the world, and there are more than 9,000 AI/ML students in Montreal alone. The Canadian companies participating in this delegation are a small sample of the talent available.

Canada’s business-friendly environment is built on world-class cities that consistently rank as the best places to live, work, and play.

Our team would be happy to explore your growth plans and give you the information you need to make smart business decisions.

We look forward to connecting.

India-Canada Collaborative Industrial R&D ProgrammingIndia and Canada have signed an agreement to coordinate funding from both governments for collaborative research and development projects between a Canadian and Indian partner. Both programs described below operate independently, but funding decisions are coordinated. The next round of requests for proposals for funding is expected to launch in early 2019.

For Canadian Companies: The Canada International Innovation Program (CIIP)The CIIP is a funding program designed to promote industry-oriented innovation partnerships with countries with which Canada has a Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Agreement, including India.

What does the program involve? The CIIP supports industrial R&D partnerships and matchmaking activities between Canadian companies and foreign partners with a view to accelerating commercialization and facilitating market access.

The CIIP has two principal activities: Partnership Development Activities (PDAs) and International Collaborative R&D Projects.

Partnership Development Activities: PDAs are intended to facilitate identification of specific projects or partnerships between Canadian companies and companies in partner countries that could lead to industrial R&D cooperation. Examples of PDAs include: this AI and IoT delegation, technical and scientific seminars, conferences and workshops.

International Collaborative R&D Projects: Funding is provided to Canadian companies participating in research and development projects with an international entity that will lead to adoption and/or adaptation of innovative or technology-driven new or improved products, services or processes up to their commercialization.

Who can apply for CIIP funding of International Collaborative R&D Projects: Eligible applicants are companies operating in Canada, and in particular Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs), where the potential applicant has demonstrated that it will carry out a bilateral project with a partner in India. Canadian companies’ partners for CIIP projects may be companies or research organizations.
