MELBOURNE: GeorgeTaylor looks for goodtidings with "ComeHome Newfound-lander" by Tom, Jimand Garth. EveryNewfie and his grand-mother will want thisdisc especially if theycan't get home duringthe year 1966 whichhas been set asideby the Newfoundlandgovernment as "Come

Home Year".COLUMBIA: Bobby Kris is off and runningwith his newest "Travellin' Bag". The flip"Walk On By" is also getting good ex-posure. Montrealer Ronnie Fraser makesthe record scene once again. This time

with "Glad I Got To Know You". The GenePitney release of "Princess In Rags" needsno boost to make it chart wise. Pitney alsoteams up with Melba Montgomery for"Baby Ain't That Fine" which could alsomake the charts. "Soldier Boy" by DebbieLori Kaye could be the big smash Cana-dian record of the year.

CARAVAN: "You Really Got A Hold OnMe" by Little Caesar and The Consuls,Red Leaf, has now been established as anational hit. Reports on sales are comingin from coast to coast. Jay Jackson alsoon Red Leaf is beginning to show actionwith his "Darling Don't You Go" and the

new release of Greg Hamon "Keep OnTellin' Me" is already an established hitin England and could go that way inCanada.

CAPITOL: Don't look now but out of leftfield comes another Capitol winner. "LikeA Dribbling Fram" by Race Marbles cannow be safely charted by those stationsafraid to list Canadian records. The USTrades and prophet says it's alright foryou to give this top novelty number of theyear a place on your playlist. Don't betoo surprised if you don't have to make ahabit of it. Capitol have a few more uptheir sleeves.

MERRY MERRY and a VERY VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all, andsince it is that season when Joy To The Earth And Good Will to every-one and all that, I won't do my usual column of criticism this week.Except to mention that I was very disturbed to see a chart in a publi-cation recently labelled (and take my word for it, they did have thisaffrontry) "CANADIAN" with not one Canadian record listed. I wasappalled. I contacted the editor of RPM and in no uncertain termsasked who had been responsible for this .... this .... this Vancouverchart. I found out that a Tom Peacock who is with station CFUN inVancouver has arranged this gross misrepresentation (in my opinion),and had it published for all our good friends in the US to see. Well!!!Peacock, you aren't (in my opinion), a very good Canadian and youshould let your research go a little further east than the Rockies.I know Vancouver is practically a foreign land, but this is TOO much, and you should consider retracting this chart and arrange one thatis more representative . . . even if the Canadian top five are in the

bottom. Certainly records that have sold over 20,000 should be on your chart. I alsonoticed in your column that you don't have a financial interest in the Chessmen. I'm gladto hear that!!! You haven't heard the last from me, and you won't till this situationimproves .... quite a bit!!!!

Anyway . . . . MERRY CHRISTMAS to my readers. Bless you all!!!!

MUSIC

Greetings! The time is herewhen all of us in the musicindustry, Canadian andotherwise, take time outfrom our busy schedules tomake a merry and memor-ial event of this once -a -year time called Christmas. It is the time when all of uspause and look back withpride on our accomplish-ments in the year passed,

and anticipate successes to come.At this time of the year too, we normallyforget about the competition we havedealt with for 365 days and greet ourrivals with the warm, sincere friendshipthat this season has a way of bringing tothe surface. And why not? We are, all of

us, working for one common goal - thepromotion of home-grown musical talent, regardless of what field of music thattalent may specialize in. As Canadians, wehave a common pride in our accomplish-ments during 1965 in making this the big-gest year Canada has ever known in hermusic industry. With a little more effortfrom all of us we can make 1966 evenbigger.
