The Results of the interview
Abstract: Information literacy (IL) is becoming increasingly important along with the rapid development of online
resources, the knowledge-based economy and lifelong learning education (Andretta, 2012). In the context of higher
education, IL is associated with developing students’ critical thinking and lifelong learning skills. User-centred information
literacy researchers believe that an effective IL delivery system must be based on knowing its users’ needs, wants, learning
styles and core personal characteristics in order to tailor-make an effective delivery system (Blaabjerg, Hansen, &
Stehouwer Øgaard, 2007; Kuhlthau, 1992). Chinese students comprise a large and growing component of non-English
speaking students and they have reported experiencing difficulties in their learning and use of library information (Liu &
Winn, 2009). UCD currently has over 600 Chinese students of whom 500 are postgraduate. This figure will more than
double in 2016. This poster presents the results of an interview with a Chinese postgraduate student (CPGS). The results
elicit insights into the CPGS‘s IL needs thereby indicating the presence of a gap between the CS’s IL needs and IL delivery
(Shuttleworth,2015).
