Before Tegrity

• Manual lecture capture process

• VCR tapes and digitalization to Web

• Driven by individual departments

• Extensive video upload process

• No quality standards for recordings

Page 20: campustech_virtual_final

Why look to lecture capture?

• Administration requested a more formal

way of providing online courses

• Needed solution that would enhance face-

to-face courses as well as deliver online

lectures

• Higher standards needed for online

courses across the institution

Page 21: campustech_virtual_final

Why Tegrity?

• Software-based solution

• No expensive media appliances needed

• Extremely scalable

• Seamless integration with Blackboard

• Simple, easy to use solution

• Supports existing teaching styles

• No need to change the way instructors teach

• Recordings can be done anytime, anywhere

• Almost immediate access by students to

recordings

Page 22: campustech_virtual_final

Lecture capture today

• ATU using Tegrity for face-to-face and online

instruction

• 8 “Tegrity classrooms” on campus

• Contain multiuse cameras, enhanced audio,

interactive devices and Tegrity

• Optional equipment: Doc cameras,

Smartboards, alternate cameras

• 2 mobile Tegrity carts for impromptu recordings

(conference recordings, demonstrations, special

events, etc.)

Page 23: campustech_virtual_final

Lecture capture today

• 120 total courses in Blackboard

• 820 Tegrity recordings, totaling 280 hours of

video

• 12,366 student views

• Faculty feedback positive

• Still receiving additional requests to use Tegrity

• Surveys show increase in student grades

• Students like that recordings are available

almost immediately for review

Page 24: campustech_virtual_final

Challenges/Lessons Learned

• Not all students have high internet speed access

• Provide demo sessions to online students

before they sign up for online courses and

check their technology capabilities/resources.

• Back up audio/video devices for “One Shot”

capture events (Murphy‟s Law applies)

• Training of instructors on distance presentation

methods and course design is critical for

success.

Page 25: campustech_virtual_final

Future plans

• New distance learning initiative:

• 22 new „online only‟ courses this fall

• 20 more „online only‟ courses planned for

Spring 2012

• 4 more “Tegrity classrooms” by fall 2011

Page 26: campustech_virtual_final
