The William H. Van Every and Edward M. Smith Galleries play a fundamental role in the life of Davidson College. The Galleries support the academic mission of the College through the presentation, interpretation, and discussion of primarily contemporary artworks in all media for students, members of the Davidson community, and the public. Gallery exhibitions and programs nurture individual thinking, develop visual literacy, and inspire a lifelong commitment to the arts.
The Campus Sculpture Program officially began in 2007. An extension of the College’s permanent art collection, the incorporation of sculpture throughout campus expands the reach of the Gallery, exposing the Davidson community to a diverse range of sculptural works by internationally acclaimed artists from Auguste Rodin to Jaume Plensa. Always evolving, the Campus Sculpture Program transforms our environment, prompts inquiry, and sparks creativity.
