what we can changefor the futureLGBT Campus Facts You Should Know

Nearly 50% of all four year public and private colleges and universities in the United States have a LGBT and, or Ally campus group. The earliest of these LGBT campus groups date back to the late 1960s.1

As early as 1971, the first LGBT resource center was founded atUniversity of Michigan. Today only 126 campuses have a LGBToffice/center that works to create an open, welcoming place for LGBTstudents on campus.1

Only 600 four-year colleges and universities prohibit discrimination incampus policies on the basis of sexual orientation.2 Approximately 50campuses expressly prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identityor expression by including the words in campus non-discrimination policies.3

90% of LGBT youth report being harassed or assaulted due to their sexual orientation or gender identity/expression before coming to college.4
