AUC Architecture Program
• Department of Architecture (DoA) initially started as the “Architectural Engineering Program” at the American University in Cairo which was part of the Department of Construction and Architectural Engineering.
• January 2016 new Department of Architecture in the School of Sciences and Engineering became effective.
• Mission of the architectural program is to train architects who can lead the architectural profession in Egypt and the Middle East into the digital age, with the understanding of context as a means of respecting local heritage.
• Sustainability is taught in the architectural design core studio.

AUC Campus Services
• Campus Services Office created as of November 1, 2016 as a new office at AUC with a new position of Associate Vice President (AVP) for Campus Services.
• Campus Services Office incorporated:• Athletics• Events Management• Facilities and Operations• Faculty Housing• Food Services• Medical Services• Student Residential Life• Sustainability• Transportation.
• Campus Services Office incorporates a range of campus services with valuable synergistic relationships.

First Collaborative Project
• January of 2017 Residential Life mentions Sustainable Craft House idea to new AVP of Campus Services.
• February of 2017 AVP of Campus Services asks Architecture Faculty ‐Khaled Tarabieh, Assistant Professor of Sustainable Architecture if course outline can be modified to allow the participation of Architecture students with proposed project.
• Design of Sustainable Craft House at designated location within Student Residential Life area incorporated into Spring Semester 2017 Sustainable Architecture Class.

First Collaborative Project ‐ Process
• AVP creates Scope for Design of Sustainable Craft House. Reviews with Res Life Students and Staff; reviews with Architecture Professor.
• AutoCAD and PDF site plans provided by Planning staff in the Facilities and Operations Office.
• Crafts reference document provided by Res Life Staff and Students.
• Project provided to the Sustainable Architecture Students and Students visit site with Professor Tarabieh, AVP Knille and Res Life Director.
• Students commence Sustainable Craft House Design Project.

• Student progress presentations attended by Professor, AVP, Res Life Staff, Architecture Professors, Sustainability Officer and others.
