Camping RegulationsRegistration All campers must be regis-tered with our office. Campers at Old Vet’s campground and at the boat-in sites must check-in at our office within Gov. Thompson State Park. Backpack and ca-noe campers must file a permit with our office in advance of their stay. Contact our office to receive a permit.
Noise At no time may the noise on a campsite create a disturbance or interfere in any manner with the enjoyment of the forest by others.
Hours The campground is closed to non-campers between 11 pm and 6 am. All visitors must leave the campground by 11 pm. During closed hours, campers must be in or be enroute to their registered campsite. No camping party may set up or take down a camping unit between 11 pm and 6 am.
Checkout time Campsites must be vacated by 3 pm on the last day of the permit peri-od. No refund will be given for the current night after the 3 pm checkout time.
Camping Party A camping party is any individual, family or non-family group oc-cupying a campsite. A “non-family group” may not exceed 6 persons. “Family” is limited to parent(s) with their dependent children and not more than 2 guests.
Pets Pets must be on a leash not longer than eight feet and under control at all times. Owners are responsible for clean-ing up after their pets. Pets may not be left unattended at any time. Pets are pro-hibited in buildings and the beach.
Vehicles At Old Vet’s, vehicles are re-stricted to the designated parking area on each campsite. No more than two motor vehicles (except as many as six motorcycles) are allowed per camp-site. Extra vehicles can park in one of the overflow parking areas found in the campground. A fee is required for all vehicles entering Old Vet’s Camp-ground.
Waste Water and Refuse Dispose of dish and hand washing water in the camp-ground toilets. It is against health and safety rules to dump this “gray water” on the ground. A dump station is locat-ed in Gov. Thompson State Park for Old Vet’s campers to use. There are dump-sters for garbage and recycling located by the firewood shed.
Occupying the Site Campers who do not check in and occupy their reserved site before 3 pm the day after the scheduled arrival date and all following nights for which they have registered will forfeit the site. Any campers on first-come, first-served sites must occupy the site on the first night and all other nights for which they have registered.
Firewood and Fires Any firewood brought into the forest must originate from within Wisconsin and within 10 miles of the forest. You must inform the forest staff if your firewood is outside the 10-mile range. Firewood is avail-able at Old Vet’s Campground for a fee. Fires are allowed in authorized rings only. Do not leave fires unattended. Ex-tinguish all fires before leaving camp.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources provides equal opportunity in its employment, programs, services, and functions under an Affirmative Action Plan. If you have any questions, please write to Equal Opportunity Office, Department of Interior, Washington, D.C. 20240.
