SIGN-IN & PARKING

Sign-In / Sign-Out

For the safety of our campers, all children must be signed in at the start of each camp day and signed out before going home. We will only release children to those people listed on the camper’s registration as authorized to pick-up. ID will be requested from all those who are picking up a camper.

Late Drop Off

Camp groups make their way to classrooms beginning at 9:10 am. If you arrive after that time and there are no groups or staff present, please make your way to the Science Venture Main Office (ELW A110).

Please check out our MAPS section for more details on above locations

HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Nut Free Camp Science Venture strives to provide a nut-safe environment for the safety of our campers, volunteers, and staff. We ask parents to exclude all nut products from lunches and snacks.

Anaphylaxis Prevention Strategies Any camper with risk of anaphylaxis must have an Anaphylaxis Action Form completed and provided to the office team on the first day of camp. A link to this form will be emailed to parents a week prior to the start of camp

Healthy Camper Policy Please do not send your child to camp when they are sick. Participating in a full day of camp requires lots of energy and children who are not feeling their best will not have an enjoyable day at camp. It is critical to the health and safety of the other campers, as well as the staff, that your child stays at home. If your child is ill, please phone 250-721-8661 to advise us that they will be away.

Children with Extra Support Needs If your child has a special need and/or requires one-to-one support, please contact 250-721-8661 as soon as possible to discuss options for ensuring a successful camp experience for your child. Our Camp Coordinator, Paige Murphy, would love to meet with you and your child prior to camp to discuss routines and provide a tour of our facility.

THEME THURSDAYS

Each Thursday, Science Venture campers are invited to dress up in a theme costume. Child made costumes are encouraged! Please no swords, masks or like items. Refer to the table below for specific themes.

Centre of the Universe Drop Off/Pick Up

From West Saanich Road, turn right onto Observatory Road and continue straight through the main gate, making your way to the top of the hill. Please park your vehicle in the designated and signed SCIENCE VENTURE PARKING area, and walk your child to the camp meeting area in front of the Centre of the Universe building.

General Site Safety Notes for Observatory Hill

• Observatory Road is a narrow and winding mountain road, shared with pedestrians, cyclists and wildlife. Please respect the speed limit, stay in your lane, and pass with caution (there are blind corners).

• Do not try to drive down the hill if the fire alarm is sounding. Fire trucks driving up will use the full width of the road.

• No smoking anywhere on Observatory Hill, indoors or out. This ban includes smoking in cars and e-cigarettes (vaping).

• Trails are not maintained or patrolled – please stay on paved areas. This also helps the NRC to protect the habitat of designated species at risk, both flora and fauna, that make their home on Observatory Hill.

• Wildlife are present on site occasionally. Take precautions as you would in a provincial park or wilderness area.
