Page 29: Camp Workbook

Activity 1 : Let's Play Go Fish

This game can either be played with a normal deck of cards or with a set of cards printed from www.mes-english.com.

Students form groups of four or five. One player shuffles (mixes) the cards and deals 5 cards to each player. The rest of the cards go in the center of the table. Players then take turns asking other players, "Do you have a two(three, Ace, etc)?" If the answer is yes, the player hands the card to the first player and says, "Yes, I do." If the answer is no, the player responds, "No, I don't," and the first player must draw a card from the pile in the center of the table. Play continues until all the cards have been matched. The winner is the player with the most pairs of cards.

♠ Additional Rules - If players run out of cards in their hands, they may draw another card from the center pile.- Since the goal of the game is to practice English, if a player speaks Korean then they must return one pair of cards to the middle pile.

Activity 2 : Let's Play Categories!

Categories is a fast game that students enjoy because it's fun and it shows off how much English they really know.

Students should sit in a circle. One student should choose a category. Examples of categories include colors, animals, food, fruit, classroom, jobs, etc. Students then take turns saying one word within the category(for example, if the category is animals, the students might say dog, cat, elephant, etc.). Students have five seconds to say a different word. If they repeat something that has already been said, or if they can't think of a word, they get a point. Winners will be the students with the least amount of points.

Activity 3 : Let's Play BAAM!

Download a BAAM game from http://eflclassroom.com/pptgames/

GAME RULES1. Make teams. Decide which team goes first. 2. Appoint a scorekeeper. 3. Teams answer correctly and earn money. If a team is correct, they can continue until max. 3 times or until they get BAAM! 4. If a team hits BAAM! they go bankrupt! 5. The team with the most money at the end is the winner.

Activity 4 : Let's Spell With Our Bodies!

Practice making letters with your body.

Page 31: Camp Workbook

The team that correctly spells the word first gets a point!

Activity 5 : Let's Play "Heads Up, Seven Up"

Traditional Play : Seven students (or less) go to the front, while the rest of the students put their heads on the desks, eyes closed and thumbs up. The seven students walk around the class quietly and push one student's thumb down. When all seven students have gone, the teacher says, "Heads Up, Seven Up,"and the students whose thumbs were put down must guess which student did it. If the answer is correct, the student will take the other's place at the front of the class.

hess Go cards

hula hoop jump rope dodge balltag

Alternative Play : Cut out one set of the pictures below. Give one to each student at the front of the class. As before, students at their seats should have their heads down and eyes closed, but should have one hand open on the desk. Each student in the front will place their card on different students hands, and when they are finished, the teacher will say, "Heads Up, 7-Up" and students can open their eyes. They must then guess who's card they have. For example, one student might say, "Jinho, do you like board games?" If Jinho gave her the card, he would respond, "Yes, I do,"and sit down, letting the other student take his place. If the answer is no, Jinho would say, "No I don't" and remain standing.

Activity 1 : Let's make a "What do you see?" book!

Students will make a mini-book based on colored objects they find around the classroom or around the playground. First, students should divide into teams of two. The teams will go on a "scavenger hunt" to find six items of different colors. For example: a green leaf, a purple pen, a red ball, etc. Next, students will make a mini-book and draw their items, one on each page. Beneath the picture, students will write what they see. For example:

I see a green leaf.

Decorate the cover and display for everyone to see!

Activity 2 : Make-A-Wish Paper Airplanes

First, make a paper airplane. On the inside flap (where no one can see), write your wishes or dreams. For example:

Page 56: Camp Workbook

I wish for a bicycle,a Nintendo DS,

and World Peace!

Next, give the plane a name and decorate the outside. Now, take the plane outside and have a competition. The student that wins just might have their wishes come true!

Activity 3 : Let's Make Art Cards!

Imagine you want to tell someone that lives in another country about Korea. Choose one thing to tell them about (the four seasons, Chuseok, hangul, etc.)

Take a piece of paper and fold it in half. On the front, draw a picture of what you want to explain. On the inside, explain what you drew.

Activity 4 : Let's Draw Comic Strips!

Look at some examples of comic strips.

Each square is called a frame. You will make a comic strip with at least 5 frames. The frames can be any size. The characters must speak English. If you have trouble thinking of an idea, choose one from each of the lists below to make a story:

Activity 5 : Make a Monster Game!
