Great Times, Great Memories, Great Experiences! For over 50 years Camp Lou Henry Hoover has been creat-ing great summer memories for girls of all ages. Since 1953, we have been providing girls with the opportunity tolearn, discover, explore, challenge, create and make new friends in a friendly camping environment. Great times

and great experiences are what make our resident camp program so special! At Camp Hoover wegear our programs to girls entering grades 2-12. All our activities are grouped according tointerest, age and ability to make your stay more enjoyable and comfortable. A variety of programsand sessions, designed to meet the interest of all girls, are available. Camping provides a way forgirls to empower themselves, develop lifelong skills and create great memories.

We have developed and refined a camper program that meets the strictest requirements of Girl Scouts of the USA,the New Jersey Youth Camp Safety Act and the American Camping Association. Enjoy a week or more at CampHoover exploring the beauty of this 340-acre site nestled in the woods of Sussex County, New Jersey. Register forthe program of your choice combined with all the other activities that Camp Hoover has waiting for you. Any girlentering grades 2-12 – regardless of race, color, religion, age, national origin, socioeconomic level or disability iswelcomed! You do not presently have to be a Girl Scout to join in the celebration.

Girls attending Camp Hoover have the opportunity to work on Girl Scout Badges, Try Its and Interest ProjectPatches too! Camp Hoover is a journey into independence – a place where you and our experienced counselorsplan your weekly adventure together. You’ll meet girls your age and counselors from around the state, the countryand often from around the world. Our staff are college students, teachers and/or adults who have a special interestin working with young people and the outdoors. Staff attend a week of pre-camp training under the leadership ofour Resident Camp Director. Over half of the Hoover staff return each year and they are mature experiencedindividuals. So, let them lead you on a week or more of self-discovery, development of new skills, reaching yourfull potential and taking part in great experiences.

The great times continue at your campsite where you’ll share one of our large platform tentsequipped with your own cot and storage area. You’ll gather under your tent unit’s program shelterfor more group entertainment. Just a few steps away from your tent are the lavatory facilities withflush toilets, hot and cold running water, sinks and showers. A short walk will take you to ourdining hall or our program building for good times indoors. Girls attending Mini Camp, EverynightLive, Hoover Pioneers, and What’s Cooking sleep in one of our contemporary buildings, equippedwith kitchen and bathroom facilities….like a big sleepover party! General ProgramsThese programs are designed for girls entering grades 2-12 who like a little spice in their lives. They each providea broad based camp experience, different activities every day and spend several hours at the waterfront daily. Girlsmake new friends, acquire new skills, and explore all that Camp Hoover has to offer.

Mini Camp – If you are a first-time camper, or just want a shorter stay at Camp Hoover, you’ll love this three-nightexperience. The girls live in one of our modern buildings, and enjoy all the fun and excitement Camp Hooveroffers. Daily waterfront fun, hiking, arts and crafts, a picnic lunch and more will keep the campers busy duringtheir stay. Campers must be picked up at camp on Wednesday evening. Program fee: $210 (Entering grades 2-6; Grouped by program; All sessions, Maximum of 30 girls) Housing - Building

Hoover Grand Tour – Sample all that Camp Hoover has to offer. Try the challenge course, boating, a pond study,swimming, hiking Hoover’s hills, cooking out, arts and crafts, and many more activities will fill your days andnights. Whether you’re a newcomer to Hoover or an experienced camper, Grand Tour is for you! Program fee:

Everynight Live – Stay in one of our modern buildings, sleep through breakfast, andwake up late. Plus spend your afternoons swimming, boating, playing games on theplayfield, relaxing with friends and more. Our specialty programs are designed for girls entering grades 3-12. Activities are grouped according to program,age, and enjoyment level. Most specialty programs take place in the morning and then during the afternoon girlsspend the time with their unit swimming, boating, participating in arts and crafts, hiking and more. Pick a programor two or three and enjoy your summer with us.

Beach Party – Sun and fun at the lake and a day trip to the State Park await you. Just what Hoovercampers have always wanted, plenty of time to dip, swim, boat and relax at the Hoover waterfront.Learn basic water rescue skills and spend the majority of the day at the Hoover waterfront. Pro-gram fee: $310 (Entering grades 7-12; Grouped by program; Session 3) Tent Unit

Camper’s Challenge – If you love the outdoors then Camper’s Challenge is for you! Cookoutusing various methods, work on compass and emergency signal skills, learn about knots and putup a tent, hike Hoover’s Hills and learn about knife safety. Plus enjoy swimming, boating, camp-fires, and arts and crafts. Program fee: $310 (Entering grades 3-6; Grouped by program;Sessions 2 & 3) Tent Unit

Creation Studio – Recognize your full artistic potential! Come to Creation Studio and enjoy the opportunity to doyour old favorites and try new crafts. Girls work on their own individual projects. Activities include painting,leatherwork, weaving, dip candles, tie-dye, jewelry making and more! Program fee: $310 (Entering grades 4-12;Grouped by age; Sessions 1, 2, 3, 4 & 6) Tent Unit

Curtain’s Up – Explore the world of theater and the performing arts at Camp Hoover. Develop your skills toentertain, work on group drama activities, design costumes, and scenery, and hone youracting skills. You will have the opportunity to put your newly developed skills to the testwhile performing for your camp friends at the end of the week. Hoover Escapades – Is adventure your thing? Do you enjoy surprises? Then this is theprogram designed especially for you. Each day your program will set off on a mystery tripto explore, see the sights and take in some of the local attractions of Northern New Jersey. Back at camp you willhave opportunities to cookout, swim, do arts and crafts and hike. Program fee: $360 (Entering grades 7-12;Grouped by program; Session 4; Maximum of 24 girls) Tent Unit

Excursions – Do you enjoy exploring the natural world? Then Excursions is the program designed especially foryou! During the week at Camp Hoover, you will take day trips that will allow you to spend your time exploringwaterfalls, taking hikes, and discovering the beauty of Northern New Jersey. Franklin Mineral Mines and localstate parks are a few of the places you will be exploring. The remainder of the time will be spent at camp playingat the waterfront, making arts and crafts, and cooking out. Good Earth Girls - Play the rain game, learn to make sassafras tea, take an edible hike, learn about the beauty ofthe environment around you and so much more. This new program will open your eyes to wonders of the naturalworld. You will have the chance to explore the camp, examine a tree stump, and dig up other interesting small

surprises during your week-long stay. Of course you will have the chance to go swimming andboating, do arts and crafts, cookout and much more! Program fee: $310 (Entering grades 3-6;Grouped by program; Session 4; Maximum of 18 girls) Tent Unit

Gymnastics – Come and explore gymnastics at Camp Hoover! It doesn’t matter if you are abeginner or an experienced gymnast. You can progress at your own pace. Instruction includespractice in tumbling, dance, balance beam, vault, and floor exercises. Your week at Hoover endswith a performance where you can show off your newly acquired skills. Hoover Pioneers – Here’s your chance to celebrate the past and live like a pioneer! Learn to makebutter, bread, cookout, dip candles, make natural dyes, prepare homemade apple cider, work onpioneer crafts, and enjoy a day trip to the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show. Program fee:$360 (Entering grade 4-7; Grouped by program; Session 5; Maximum of 24 girls) Housing -Building

Horseback Riding – Enjoy riding? Then you’ll love this program at Camp Hoover! You canprogress at your own pace as you spend three hours each day at nearby Spring Valley Farms ridingand learning about tack. You will ride Western saddle in the outdoor and indoor rings and enjoy aspecial trail ride. Campers will also spend time learning more about horses and horse care. Pro-gram fee: $485 (Entering grades 4-12; Grouped by age; Sessions 1, 2, 3, 5 & 6; Maximum of 24 girls) TentUnit

Kaleidoscope – Do you enjoy working on service projects? Is leadership your thing? Here’s your chance to spenda week at camp helping others and yourself. Gain leadership and service hours by planning and working on serviceprojects at Camp Hoover and then work directly with younger campers in the units to sharpen your leadershipskills. The remainder of your days will be spent swimming, boating, cooking out and exploring the world ofcamping. Program fee: $250 (Pre-requisite: completion of the PAT I and/or PAT II program or has earnedthe PAT pin/patch through Scouting; Minimum age 14+; Sessions 5 & 6) Tent Unit

Lifeguard Training – Spend the week at Camp Hoover earning Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR for theProfessional Rescuer. Your days will be spent working on rescues and recoveries, learning first aid and CPR, and

water rescue. Plus enjoy arts and crafts, cookouts and more. Program fee: $385 (Mini-mum age 15; Grouped by age; Session 1; Maximum of 12 girls) Tent Unit

Middies – Canoeing down the Delaware River can be a thrill! After a few days of canoe-ing and camping training at Camp Hoover, including an overnight on the lake, you’ll setout for a canoe adventure on the Delaware River. Daily you’ll paddle your way down-stream and in the evening you’ll make camp along the riverbanks. Experience magnifi-cent scenery, physical challenge, and the rewards of teamwork. Girls participating in thistrip should have previous experience canoeing. Two-week program: July 9 – July 22 -

Program fee: $750 (Entering grades 7-12; no additional stayover fee; Maximum of 12 girls) Tent Unit

Off the Beaten Path - “We’re Off the Beaten Path…..” and you can be too! This special two-week program givesyou the unique feeling of being one with the woods, depending on your own skills and nature’s hospitality. Youwill sharpen your camping skills, plan your trip, take day hikes and work on the challenge course. Then it is off tothe beautiful Appalachian Trail for a backpacking adventure. Two-week program: July 23 – August 5 – Pro-gram fee: $750 (Entering grades 7-12; no additional stayover fee; Maximum of 12 girls) Tent Unit

Outdoor Odyssey – Come explore the outdoor beauty in and around Camp Hoover! Campers will practice theircamping, hiking, canoeing skills, and enjoy Hoover’s general program including the challenge course and water-front. Then they will plan and participate in a one-day hiking trip at the Delaware Water Gap and a day tripcanoeing on the Delaware River. Program fee: $340 (Entering grades 4-6; Grouped by program; Sessions 1,3 & 6; Maximum of 12 girls) Tent Unit

Outdoor Survival – Learn to survive in the outdoors! Live primitively while learning how to usea compass, build a fire, create your own shelter and sleep in it overnight, purify water, participatein the challenge course and learn how to “stay alive” through simulated emergency/disaster situa-tions. Plus enjoy all the general camp program of swimming, boating, and arts and crafts. Pro-gram fee: $340 (Entering grades 7-12; Grouped by program; Session 2; Maximum of 18girls) Tent Unit

Snap, Click, Zoom – Are pictures your thing? Then Camp Hoover is the place to learn aboutshutter speed, lighting, depth of field and care of your camera. Learn how to develop your ownfilm in the camp’s dark room. Take still photos of the beautiful nature in and around Hoover andpractice your photography skills on new friends. The remainder of your stay will be spent swimming, boating,working on arts and crafts, cooking out and more! Program fee: $360 (Entering grades 7-12; Grouped byprogram; Sessions 4, 5 & 6; Maximum of 12 girls) Tent Unit

Set Sail – Thrill to skimming across Swartswood Lake in a Sunfish sailboat. Campersspend several hours each day receiving instruction from our trained staff and testing yourskills on the water. All campers participating in boating activities prepare by learning lifejacket safety, which includes a deep-water test. Don’t forget that all units enjoy swim-ming, hiking, cooking out and partaking in their choice of Hoover activities. Programfee: $360 (Entering grades 7-12; Grouped by program; All Sessions; Maximum of 16girls) Tent Unit

Summer Get Away – If you are an adventurous person, then Summer Get Away is for you! Spend two days and anight either canoeing on the Delaware River or hiking and backpacking on the Appalachian Trail. While at camphelp plan the trip, practice your camping skills and strengthen your hiking or canoeing proficiency. Plus enjoy themany other activities that Camp Hoover has to offer. Program fee: $340 (Entering grades 7-12; Session 1 –Hiking/Backpacking; Sessions 3 & 5– Canoeing; Maximum of 12 girls) Tent Unit

Wet-N-Wild – Enjoy a world of water fun! You’ll spend each day swimming, boating, funyaking, exploring thelake, learning about water safety and many other activities in and around Swartswood Lake. Plus there is always

time for arts and crafts, cookouts, hiking and more. Program fee: $310 (Entering grades 3-6;campers grouped by age; Sessions 2, 5 & 6) Tent Unit

What’s Cooking? – Here is your chance to try your hand at various types of cooking. Spend yourdays at camp making cookies, preparing your meals, baking bread and trying out different types offood. Plus you will have the chance to go swimming, boating, do arts and crafts and much more.Program fee: $340 (Entering grades 3-6- Session 2 only and grades 7- 12 – Session 4 only;Maximum of 16 girls) Housing - Building

Work Weekend 2006 March 17th to 19th

Each spring a group of volunteers assembles at Camp Hoover to spruce up the camp and get it ready for thecamping season. A variety of jobs are waiting for you including: rebuilding tent platforms, cleaning cabins,clearing trails, painting projects, general cleanup and much more. Of course, there is time for fun and relaxation,but the key word is Work. Jobs are available for all ages and talents. Families, individuals, and troops are wel-comed. We are looking for electricians, plumbers, and carpenters to add their skills to improving the 340-acrefacility. Both skilled and unskilled helpers are needed. Bring your own food, but be sure to come and dine with usin the Dining Hall for lunch and dinner on Saturday. There is something for everyone to help with. Interested involunteering your time at Camp Hoover but can’t make it to work weekend, please call Deb Hooker at 908-232-3236 ext. 1226 to arrange another date and time to accomplish a service project. Individuals, families and/ortroops can do projects.

Family/Troop Camping – Summer 2006 – Friday, August 25th to Monday, September 4th

Enjoy all Hoover has to offer with your family or troop. This is the perfect time to bring your group to Hoover andenjoy a day or two of fun summer activities. The waterfront is fully staffed for you to go swimming, boating or justbathe in the sun. Plus you can participate in the challenge course, hiking Hoover’s hills,arts and crafts, work on badges, cookout and much more. Come for the day or for anovernight camping trip for one or more nights.

Hoover Fun Day – Saturday, August 26th

Join us for a day of great experiences and great times. Camp Hoover has been servicinggirls, families, and groups from the Girl Scouts of Washington Rock Council and through-out the surrounding area. Spend the day touring camp, participating in arts and crafts,working on team initiatives at the challenge course, swimming and boating at the water-front, and join everyone for a picnic and campfire on Saturday evening. The great times will last all day long andinto the evening, so don’t miss this fun filled day at Camp Hoover.

How to Register for Camp Hoover:1. Please complete and mail this application on the next page. Keep a copy of the Camper Registration

form for your records as well as this brochure.2. Please print the camper’s name on the face of the check or money order made payable to Girl Scouts of

Washington Rock Council (GSWRC).3. A $35 fee will be charged for any returned checks.4. A confirmation packet will be sent to the applicant. All of the information in this packet should be

reviewed immediately since forms must be returned in a timely manner. It will include a medical form,how to pay the balance of the fee, and camper information.

Financial Assistance – Cost can be a big concern when sending your daughter to camp. We have a Financial Aidprogram designed to help Girl Scouts of Washington Rock Council experience the thrill of Camp Hoover. GirlScouts from other councils should contact their council directly. For information please check the appropriate boxon the application.

Refund Policy – In anticipation of a camper’s attendance at camp, various expenses are being incurred on herbehalf. Among others, these include supplies, equipment, registration costs and camp staffing costs. Accordingly,there is a deposit of $80. For cancellations received in writing by May 1st there will be a $50.00 cancellation fee.All cancellations after May 1st will receive a refund, minus the deposit, if notification in writing of a camper’swithdrawal is received at least three weeks preceding the camp session or if the camper is medically unable toattend camp. (Need a doctor’s note). There will be no deduction or return of fees for campers sent home or for latearrivals and/or early departures. A full refund will be given only if we are not able to place you in your programor session choice.

Program Cancellation – Any program may be cancelled if enrollment for the program is lower than anticipated. Afull refund will be given if no substitute program is requested.
