Learn the basics to tying fundamental knots and lashings used to build shelters, benches, stretchers or any other scout craJ you can think of. Group Capacity Plan: Discuss with your group beforehand about what they hope to get out of learning this skill. Are there any specific knots or lashings that they would like to learn? Talk about the things they could create or build later using the new skills they have developed. Find out if anyone in your group can Ne some knots and is willing to share or help others. Talk about different kinds of rope and the Nmes they can be used. It is important to know when you are scheduled for your session and decide how long it will take for you to get to the area from wherever you are in camp. Do: Once you have been given the instrucNons on how to Ne the knots and lashings, pracNce mulNple Nmes to ensure you remember the knots. If you have any quesNons make sure to ask a friend or the facilitator for clarificaNon. PracNce the lashings using the poles provided. Help a friend who is having a difficult Nme or pracNce teaching the knot/lashing to someone else Review: Were you successful? Why or why not? What do you know now that you did not know before? What did you like about knots and lashings? What did you find difficult? When a knot was difficult to learn, what did you do to get beXer? Can you think of something at home that you find challenging? What would you do differently in future? Safety Note: Never wrap rope around any part of your body. Handle rope with care to avoid rope burn or irritaNon. Make appropriate decisions and respect the space of others. Give yourself lots of room to avoid hi[ng others with rope.
