2016 All State Players (Vincent Herschberger Tanner Cleveland and Chad Sellers)

Camp DetailsOur goal is to make the experience of baseball for young players a fun learning experience. Campers will receive instruction in the following areas from the coaches and the returning varsity players. Through this 2 hour camp players will walk away with a better understanding of correct baseball movements.

-Hitting: We will teach them the basic fundamentals of how to become a better hitter. Hitters will develop a sense of where to be at in the batters box. Understand how to use all of their body in their swing through similar drills we use.

-Fielding/Throwing: Players will learn the proper throwing mechanics and fundamentals of fielding the ball. We will have campers do similar drills that we use in our practices.

Bio on Head Coach Jay Sheets:

This is my third year taking over the helm at NorthWood. I graduated from NorthWood in 2007 and then went on to play baseball and earn an elementary education degree from Manchester University. While at Manchester I had the privilege of playing for Rick Espeset. I was the previous JV Head Coach at NorthWood and have been teaching 3rd grade at Wakarusa Elementary. Currently I live in Mishawaka and married to Lizzie Sheets. We recently had our first child named Macklen! I am beyond thrilled to have this opportunity to come home and give back to my community not only in the classroom, but on the field as well.

2017 NW Baseball Camp March 18th TIME- 8:30-10:30AM

LOCATION: PIT

2016 Seniors: Jaron Mullet- Jaron patrolled centerfield for a majority of the season. He too is also back for his third year on varsity. We look for Jaron to lead the outfielders with his experience and to have a breakout year at the plate. He hit .235 as a junior and 13 runs scored.

Drew Minnich- Drew will be leading the Panthers on the mound for his third year of varsity baseball. Last year he posted a 6-1 record with a 1.12 ERA. He also led the team in striking out 38 hitters. Offensively Drew posted a .360 BA with 16 RBI’s.

Drake Gongwer- Drake is back again for the Panthers for a third year on varsity. Drake saw time both on the mound and in the outfield for us. He posted a 2-3 record on the bump. Drake posted a .329 BA, with 2 homeruns and 22 RBI.

Vincent Herschberger- Our big bopper is back for a third year of varsity baseball. Last year Hersch was nominated to 1st team All-State with staggering numbers offensively. He hit .511 with 41 RBI and 3 homeruns. We look for another amazing year in 2017.

Travis Stephenson- Travis is looking to have a breakout year for us. Last year he saw time behind our senior shortstop Chad Sellers. We look for Travis have a great year defensively for us and to contribute at the plate.

Camp Details Continued... Pitching: Players will receive instruction from our pitching coach and varsity pitching staff. They will learn how to hold a 4 seam grip, pitch from the wind up, and a correct arm slot when pitching. This will only be available for grades 3 rd -5 th .

Hard Work- Players will give 100% in the classroom and on the field. Going the extra mile to get better. Practicing how you want to play

Unselfishness- TEAM first before anything! NorthWood baseball is a family from the high school team all the way down to Little League.

Class- Being gentlemen on and off the field. Acting responsibly off the field. Winning and losing with class.

Respect- Respecting everyone around you. Respecting the game of baseball and everyone involved.
