every day in hundreds of ways to make Columbia an even better place to live, work and play. And these values form the foundation of CA’s new strategic plan, which went into effect on May 1. To develop this plan, CA reached out to numerous area stakeholders, conducting surveys of and speaking with multiple departments of the Howard County Government, local nonprofits, community partners, commercial property owners, village board chairs, residents, local businesses, CA advisory committee chairs and CA team members. Their thoughts brought us an even greater understanding of how the needs, interests and expectations of the community are changing. Members of the community spoke often of the value of CA’s programs, services and facilities, and how important it is that they are regularly evaluated and updated, evolving with the changing needs of the community. There are several other important goals in the plan, including enhancing connectivity and environmental stewardship, maintaining CA’s open spaces, strengthening CA’s communication and community engagement efforts, continuing to improve transparency, maintaining strong fiscal discipline and investing additional effort in community partnerships. As CA does all of this, it will do so with those five values in mind. We deliver fun and have a great time providing it. With every service we provide, we strive for excellence. We celebrate diversity. We build lasting and trusting relationships. And we foster opportunities to connect with others. This plan will guide the CA Board, its new president and its great staff as we all work to keep this the community of choice today — and for generations to come.
