THE PROPOSAL
A play on Coney Island, Cameron Wu wanted to bring the inherent qualities of the boardwalk into the courtyard at PS1. The primary use is for shade, recreation and relaxation.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
Careful use of cones and cylinders helps to reduce material costs for it’s creation.
ACTIVITIES
Pools, sandboxes, and play courts allow leisurely activities similar to those found at Coney Island.
GEOMETRY
When unrolled, the cones follow a parallel lattice of poles with laced-in material of the same width, which also reduces waste.
UNIQUE
This architectural proposal brings together Coney Island’s sky, sea and land to MoMa’s PS1 courtyard with ease. Elevated sundecks allow viewers to survey the courtyard and it’s activities.
