Camera shots There is a convention in the video, film and television industries which assigns names and guide lines to common types of shots, framing and picture composition. The list below briefly describes the most common shot types.

There is a convention in the video, film and television industries which assigns names and guide lines to common types of shots, framing and picture composition. The list below briefly describes the most common shot types.

Extreme wide shot:

Page 2: Camera Shots

The view is so far from the subject that he isn’t even visible. Often using as an establishing shot.

Wide shot:

The subject is visible barely but the emphasis is still on placing him in his environment.

Page 3: Camera Shots

Long Shot:

The subject takes up the full frame or atleast as much as comfortably comfortable. It is also known as wide/ full shot.

Mid shot:

Shows some part of the subject in more detail while still giving an impression of the whole subject.

Medium closeup:

Half way between mid shot and close up shot.

Closeup shot:

A certain feature or part of the subject takes up the whole frame.

Extreme closeup shot:

The ecu gets rite in and shows extreme detail.

Looking from behind a person at the subject.

Shows a view from the subjects perspective.

Taking the photograph of the ground from an elevated position. The term usually refers to images in which the camera is not supported by a ground-based structure.
