Cambodia’s Strong GDPThe Cambodian economy remains on track to grow strongly in 2019 despite a slower-than-anticipated rise in agricultural production, said a new report released by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Wednesday.In an update of its flagship annual economic publication, Asian Development Outlook (ADO) 2019, ADB retained its forecast of real gross domestic product (GDP) growth for Cambodia of 7 percent this year and 6.8 percent in 2020.

Overview of Cambodia’s Maritime IndustryCambodia has a growing shipping industry, which is mostly concentrated and operates out of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port. PAS is complemented by smaller river ports in Phnom Penh and a few other provinces.
New ports are planned or already under construction in the provinces of Kampot, Kep, and Koh Kong. In 2017, Phnom Penh Autonomous Port and Sihanoukville Autonomous Port recorded container throughput of 150,000 TEU and 460,000 TEUs respectively. Future expansion projects should allow Sihanoukville to welcome deep-sea cargoes up to 14.5 meters by 2022 while Phnom Penh’s capacity will be expanded to 500,000 TEU by 2025. Following these infrastructure upgrades, logistical developments are expected to take place.
