WHO IS CALYPSO
Calypso is a sea nymph goddess
Daughter of Atlas, a titan, and Tehtys
Name means “to conceal”
She was a prisoner to Ogygia for the support
of her Titan father during the war against the
Olympians
HOW DOES SHE TIE INTO THE ODYSSEY
Rescued Odysseus after he washed up on the
shores of Ogygia after being at sea for nine days
She fell madly in love with Odysseus, and made
advancements towards Odysseus, but he rejected
them . He wanted to be back with his wife.
Odysseus eventually became her lover, and had to
kids with Calypso over his seven year captivitiy

Hermes was sent by Athena to convince Calypso to
release Odysseus
She left him go and helped him rebuild his boat.
She also gave him food, wine, and a large gust of
wind to send him on his way
She tried to kill herself after the loss of her lover,
but since she was immortal, she did not succeed.
