Pastor Ken - Continued from the front page. Pastor of First Lutheran in 2007. Marcella managed a clinic for the medically un-insured that is housed at First Lutheran. We have three daughters. Johanna is 24 and is a pre-school teacher in Chanhassen, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. Else-Marie, 21, is a student at Minot State and is a physical education major. She spends her summers as a counselor at Metigoshe Bible Camp near Minot. Ingrid is 16 and is in the 10th grade. She likes fashion and American history. In our spare time, we enjoy annual ski trips to Whitefish, Montana and summers boating on area lakes. Marcella, Ingrid and I are anxious to arrive in our new home in Brookfield. Else-Marie and Johanna are looking forward to their chance to visit. We are all very excited about our call to Calvary.

Annual Report Informational Meeting Please join us in the Fellowship Hall at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 29, for an informal meeting on the Annual Report. We will discuss any questions you may have on its contents or in preparation for the Annual Meeting. Copies of the Annual Report are available in the Narthex. There is also a link to an electronic version of the Report in the January 26 Connections e-mail.

Annual Meeting Sunday, Feb. 5 10:30 a.m. Please plan to attend the Annual Meeting in the Sanctuary as we conduct the annual business of the church as outlined in the Agenda included in the Annual Report. There will be no Christian Education classes that day so all may attend the meeting. Children are welcome to join Pastor Dawn in the Youth Room for a movie.

Welcome to Pastor Ken and Family We welcome Pastor Ken and his family! Pastor Ken will begin February 1st in the office, participate in the Annual Meeting on February 5th and begin preaching the weekend of February 11-12. Pastor Ken and his family will move into the parsonage which will be their home for several months. As their family home, it is important to remember it is not appropriate to “just

pop in”. Meetings with Pastor Ken should be in the church office unless other arrangements have been made. Pastor Ken can be reached at the church office number (262) 786-4010. Of course, Pastor Ken will be available for emergencies and his cell phone number will be shared when it is available. Pastor Dawn’s last day in the office is Thursday, January 26, and her final weekend of preaching will be February 4-5. We are fortunate that Pastor Dawn will continue at Calvary as the Interim Youth Director. In addition, Pastor Dan will continue to teach the High School Christian Education.

Finding a Place at Calvary Maybe you’ve been worshiping with us for a few weeks and you wonder what other ministries we offer. Maybe you’ve been part of our Calvary family for a while and you’re looking for a new place to get connected. What-ever the reason, we hope you’ll take a few moments and investigate what Calvary has to offer. How to get connected at Calvary: 1. Investigate: Review the options. Does something look interesting? 2. Make Contact: Contact the office and leave a message for the ministry lead for that area!

Call 262-789-4010 or email [email protected] and she will pass your information on to the right person! 3. Check it out! The ministry lead will contact you and give you information on that ministry area. You can

check out a meeting or shadow someone for a few weeks (for example… if you wanted to help with the Wor-ship PowerPoints, or help tie quilts… we’ll train you up!)

4. Repeat as needed.

SALT Winter Break Party Wednesday, February 15 Calling all Senior Adults Living Triumphantly through this ridiculous Wisconsin weather! Let’s get together at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15 for a break from the long, long winter and celebrate . . . LOVE! We LOVE Milwaukee – and we’ll celebrate that by watching a segment of the PBS series on “The Making of Milwaukee” We LOVE Wisconsin food – and we’ll celebrate that by snacking on cheese, sausage, breads, and other treats made right here in Milwaukee (Oh, and that Valentine’s Day candy should be half price by then. We might find a little of that on the table as well.) We LOVE a good old love song – and we’ll sing a few together We LOVE to share stories of growing up in Milwaukee – and we’ll have time for that as well Sign up on the sheet on the Narthex window and plan to take a break from winter in the warmth of Calvary’s fellowship hall. And bring a friend along!

Women’s Ministry News

Our selection for Monday, February 13 is Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger. We’ll meet in the media room (Room 109) from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. This New York Times bestseller and winner of the Edgar award for Best Novel in 2014 is set in the small town of New Bremen, MN in the summer of 1961. The publisher’s summary con-tinues: The Twins were playing their debut season, ice-cold root beers were selling out at the soda counter of Halderson’s Drugstore, and Hot Stuff comic books were a mainstay on every bar-bershop magazine rack. It was a time of innocence and hope for a country with a new, young president. But for thirteen-year-old Frank Drum it was a grim summer in which death visited frequently and assumed many forms. Accident. Nature. Suicide. Murder. Frank begins the season preoccupied with the concerns of any teenage boy, but when tragedy unexpectedly strikes his family—which includes his Methodist minister father; his passionate, artistic mother; Juilliard-bound old-er sister; and wise-beyond-his-years kid brother—he finds himself thrust into an adult world full of secrets, lies, adultery, and betrayal, suddenly called upon to demonstrate a maturity and gumption beyond his years. Told from Frank’s perspective forty years after that fateful summer, Ordinary Grace is a brilliantly moving account of a boy standing at the door of his young manhood, trying to understand a world that seems to be falling apart around him. It is an unforgettable novel about discovering the terrible price of wisdom and the enduring grace of God.

Please join us for what promises to be a thoughtful discussion.

It’s February in Wisconsin . . . time for some relief from the grayness of the sky and the gray-ness of the old snow. Come on over to church on Monday morning, February 20 at 9 am and enjoy some treats and coffee as we watch a classic romantic comedy from 1949 – “Adam’s Rib”. Written by Ruth Gordon and Garson Kanin, Adam's Rib is a peerless comedy predicated on the double standard. Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn play Adam and Amanda Bon-ner, a husband-and-wife attorney team, both drawn to a case of attempted murder. The de-fendant (Judy Holliday) had tearfully attempted to shoot her husband (Tom Ewell) and his

mistress (Jean Hagen). Adam argues that the case is open and shut, but Amanda points out that, if the defendant were a man, he'd be set free on the basis of "the unwritten law." Thus it is that Adam works on behalf of the prose-cution, while Amanda defends the accused woman. The trial turns into a media circus, while the Bonners' home life suffers. Adam's Rib represented the film debuts of New York-based actors Jean Hagen, Tom Ewell, and David Wayne (as Hepburn's erstwhile songwriting suitor), and the return to Hollywood of Judy Holliday after her Born Yesterday triumph. —Summary from Rotten Tomatoes

Please join us for this great comic relief from winter!

Mission & Outreach

February Mission of the Month Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus Our Missions of the Month this year start with a focus on Africa where Christianity is burgeoning! Last month we collected monetary gifts for our missionaries of Lutheran Bible Translations working in Africa and their families who have taken the mission to other places around the world. God has blessed their work and we have prayed blessings upon them as they carry out the Great Commis-sion building written language of the people's hearts to know the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord.

This month we ask you to focus monetary gifts and prayers of blessings on our NALC partner in Ethiopia, Africa. We sup-port the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY). In reading the history it was noted "Evangelical" means "Lutheran" and "Mekane Yesus" means "dwelling place of Jesus." The growth has been enormous since its constitution in 1959. Missionaries who ventured to serve there in 1960 have seen growth from 20,000 then to OVER 5 MILLION now. And we have been supporting this growth and can continue to support its outreach! Additional exciting statistics can be found at (http://eecmy.org/eecmy/en/history) A few years ago - some of you may remember, Calvary enjoyed a wonderful visit from Dr. Gemechis Desta Buba. He in-spired our Congregation with his message. On YouTube you can find many videos of his teachings and presentations. He is a strong advocate for our brothers and sisters in Ethiopia. We have supported EECMY since the 1960's, first through the America Lutheran Church, then through the ELCA synod and now through the NALC synod. EECMY is the largest Luther-an Church in Africa and...in the Lutheran World Federation. Please help the EECMY continue to spread the Gospel in Africa, sharing the Good News and carrying out the Great Com-mission. God chose us to be loaded with HIS blessings with the expectation, to whom much is given, much is to be ex-pected. Way to go Calvary supporting the Great Commission through our NALC mission partner EECMY. Our monetary gifts in February support the growth of Christianity with the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus. Use your weekly offering envelopes, white envelopes in the pew back or give online. Checks should be made out to Calva-ry Lutheran Church and note: February Mission of the Month.

Wednesday Breakfast Join the men of Calvary on Wednesday’s at 7 a.m. at Maxim’s on Capital Drive for breakfast and fellowship. Come when you can and bring a friend!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to Calvary’s Cupboard last month. The next Food Sunday is “Souper Bowl” Sunday, with collection on February 18-19, 2017. Any type of soup is acceptable. Other items of need at the Waukesha Food Pantry are rice, canned meats, fruits or vegetables, and cereals.
