Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.

The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

2 Corinthians 5:17Ladies’ Tuesday Morning Bible Study

will be beginning soon!

We all love do-overs, don’t we? You have to believe it’s why erasers were in-vented and why mulligans are coveted in golf! In some ways, it’s getting rid of the mistake we made and getting an opportunity to “redo”!It’s amazing what God has done for us, isn’t it? We can’t just erase the past— consequences will always be part of it; but we CAN begin again! What did John write? “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse is from all unrighteousness.” How great is that? It’s the ultimate new start! Maybe that’s why a new year always hints to us of a “new start”, a “redo” or even a “do-over”. We tend to think of all the possibilities that lay ahead. But if you think about it, we don’t need to wait until January 1 to begin anything...we can start today. So let’s do that, especially in our walk with Christ. Let’s all get stronger and be healthier when it comes to our relationship with Him...let’s all start again...and, let’s make this year one where God is glorified through us and in us! I can’t wait to see what He is going to do!

If you want to get in shape physically, a good physical exercise program is need-ed. But the bible tells us that while physical training is of some value, spiritual training (godliness) is beneficial in EVERY way. So let us strive for that through:1. Prayer - this is our fuel! We must be people of prayer!2. Discipleship - This strengthens the core! 3. Missions - This is the race (service, evangelism, outreach), being the hands and feet of Christ!

Through all three of these, oportunities will be offered! Will you make it your goal to be “trained” and ready to be used by Him this year?!

Happy New Year! I’m always amazed each year how fast the time comes around to say that again! They say the older we get, the faster time seems to go and I do believe that really must be true. I often feel as if I’m watching my own children and my Calvary family’s children change literally before my eyes. Students who were in elementary school when we joined the work here at Calvary are now a part of the youth group or in college. And the kids who were in Junior High are all graduating from college and even getting married! I’m stunned at how fast life passes before our eyes. As for the rest of us, well, the reflection in the mirror is some-times startling. Such is life! But of all the changes constantly around us, this much I know: God continues to work and is calling us to be a part of that work with Him. That is even more stunning…that He would use ordinary people like us to accomplish His extraordinary plan to redeem mankind!

I want to encourage you this New Year to find a ministry or two to really pour yourself into — a place of service for the Lord where you can make an impact for His Kingdom and bring much glory and honor to His name. Sadly, in our western culture, church life is often a bit too much like the secular world where everybody knows what they want and expect it to be given to them or done for them for no other reason than they want it. Calvary, let’s not fall into that trap. This New Year would you commit now to the Lord that when you see a vacancy or need in a ministry you will quickly step in and lend a helping hand, even if only temporarily? When we spot places where ministry is lacking or struggling, often due to too few workers, our natural inclination in the flesh is to be critical. I believe that is contrary to the Spirit’s leading. He will never prompt us toward tearing down but always toward building up. Will you ask yourself, “Are my spiritual gifts and/or talents being used somewhere within the church body for service to my Lord.” If the answer to that question is NO, please know how very important it is that every member of the body serves the Lord (see 1 Cor. 12:12). If we’re going to be a healthy church, every part of the body must function as the Lord intended, so I’ll leave the self-exam-ination to you and the Holy Spirit, but do take a look and make it a matter of prayer.

If the Lord has gifted you in the area of music, there are places of ministry for every age group. I would love to talk more with you about where those opportunities could be . . . from singing in a choir, playing an instrument, or being a part of teaching our preschoolers and children how to love God and worship Him through music. Find those places you can serve the Lord.

So, Happy New Year 2016! I’ll be saying it again for 2017 before we can blink!

A new year is upon us. Christmas holidays have come and gone, although I pray that the celebration of Christmas continues in your life each day! Rock’s sched-ule slows down a bit with the arrival of this new year, although we still have several things happening in youth ministry at Calvary. January brings the annual Disciple Now weekend (15th–17th). There will be a lot of students around that weekend, and we are excited about seeing God work through that weekend. We will be having a Super Bowl party for students on Sunday, February 7th from 5:00pm–8:00pm. In March, a Social Media Fast is planned. During this time, we will encourage students to make a commitment to refrain from social media usage for an entire week (March 20–26)! I will be looking for adults who will participate as well, serving as accountability partners for those students who do participate.

More information about these events will be sent to students and parents as they approach. If you are a parent of a student who is part of youth ministry at Calvary, and you have not been receiving text and/or email updates from Todd, please let him know so he can add you.
