ADaily Total Calories:
This is the number in the “Calories for Weight Loss”column next to your dog’s ideal weight. If you don’tknow how much your dog should way, check withyour vet before changing their diet.

BSupplements andOther Calories:If you feed your dog extra calories a day (like pillsin pill pockets, soft chew supplements or a dental treat, put the calorie count of those here. This allows you toexclude those from your dog’s “treat allowance”

Adjusted DailyCalorie Count:

This is the calories your have left over after thecalories we talked about in step 2. Just subtractthe number in box B from the number in box A.

This is how many calories your dog is allowed per dayfrom treats! Treats shouldn’t make up more than 10%of your dog’s daily diet. Simply multiply box C by 0.1.

Almost there! This is the total number of cups of dog food you should feed your dog per day. Take thenumber we calculated in box E and divide it bybox F.

This is the number of times a day you feed your dog.Most dogs tolerate weight loss the best if they are fedat least twice a day.

This is the amount of food (in cups) you should giveyour dog each time you feed them. Take box G and divide it by box H. Bear in mind that even after all this math, your dog may need a different amount offood. Keep in touch with your vet to adjust asneeded.

This chart estimates the RER or “resting energy requirement” ofyour dog based on ideal body weight in pounds. Ask your vet howmany pounds your dog should weigh to figure out their calorierequirement. This is just an estimate, if your vet has recommenda specific calorie count, use that instead, this is not a substitutionfor good advice from your vet!
