MANILA CENTRAL UNIVERSITY

The Manila Central University commonly abbreviated as MCU, is a private, non-sectarian, non-

stock educational institution, located at the heart of Metro Manila, Caloocan City, Philippines, is a

pillar in health science and professional programs in the Philippines. It was founded and first

directed in 1904 by Dr. Alejandro M. Albert.

MCU is "the first Pharmacy school run by Filipinos", and the "first Nursing school that offered the

4-year Bachelor of Science in nursing program in the Philippines."

ABOUT MCU

The MCU College of Medicine, established in 1947, now has thousands of graduates in the

medical profession, academe and community health service. MCU Hospital, which was set-up at

about the same time, has provided patients with utmost healthcare and service for over 65 years.

To better serve more people, the MCU College of Medicine and MCU Hospital were turned into a

non-stock and non-profit educational foundation named after its founder Filemon D. Tanchoco, a

man of integrity and commitment and a career educator.

HISTORY

Manila Central University traces its roots to a review class for Pharmacy students in 1904.It

eventually evolved to a school that responded to the need for private and non-sectarian teaching

and broadens the access to college education in the Philippines.

For over a hundred years, MCU developed into one of the leading health science education and

health service institutions in the country.

The MCU College of Medicine, established in 1947, then as now is dedicated to create competent

and morally upright physicians who are equipped with proper understanding of essential habits,

attitude and professional ethics.

Today, the MCU College of Medicine has thousands of graduates in the medical profession,

academe and community service in the Philippines and around the world.

DOCTOR OF MEDICINE

Medicine is a program where there is an integration of basic sciences and clinical subjects across

all four years. Basic sciences are emphasized earlier while clinical medicine is given focus

thereafter.

In the first three years, the students have interactive lectures, small group discussions, laboratory

exercises and patient exposure during clinics. The 4th year is a twelve-month rotating clinical

clerkship where the students have hands on exposure with patients.

research, the discovery of new knowledge responsive to the needs of the global village.

MCU-FDTMF, true to its mission statement, is committed to graduating doctors who are

competent, caring and responsive to the needs life they shall serve. Indeed the MCU-FDTMF has

met the challenges of the past and has withstood the test of time. Now, MCU-FDTMF through

hard work, continues to sustain its successes. It is proud of its recognition by the CHED and the

Association of the Philippine Medical Colleges, and its recognition by various national agencies as

a member of the Metro Manila Health Science Community. Having been in existence for more

than half a century, MCU-FDTMF is proud of its highly qualified and dedicated faculty staff who
