How it Started: My

musical life has taken

many twists and turns,

some comp le t e l y

unexpected, some very

challenging, but I have

always know music

would be my life and I

could never leave it

behind no matter what it took.

I have a vague

recollection of a

conversation, many

years ago, with a friend

who was having a lot of

pain in her hip from

ongoing complications from surgery. It started as a

casual “I wonder what would happen if you sang to my

hip?’ We joked about maybe I could help her pain. I

didn’t take it seriously but one day we thought we

would experiment with the idea. We were both up for

that, so she lay down and I focused healing and sound

energy to the place of pain, first by just making tones

and experimenting through the range. Then I sang her a

lullaby and somehow sang part of her story to her. To

both our surprise she experienced less pain during the

session. I’m sure medical people would give their

reason for that, but we did this a few times, and she

eventually moved. I let the whole thing go in my mind.

In 1998, I began as the music director at Unity

of Panama City. We had someone come in to do

chrystal bowl healing. As people at the church

continued those gatherings, I found myself in the circle

sitting beside the person singing their story to them. I

was surprised at how accurate they told me I was. I still

put this away, not trusting my experience, and certainly

not ready to hang out a ‘plaque’ as a ‘new age healer’

As the years have gone by, I have learned to

trust my intuition, and it seems it tells me what the

person needs to hear to heal deep wounds that are

often buried, or they can’t get to alone. I am finally

ready to trust this gift to help people heal and move

Sound Healing Sessions

On Finding a Technique:

After I got out of college and started my career as a

professional singer, I continued to study and look for ways

to unravel tension in my body. Some of the techniques I

had encountered at college I felt actually made the chronic

tension in my body worse. It wasn’t until I discovered

Carol Forte and the teaching of Cornelius Reid that I

found something that felt so totally organic and natural to

the body.

The ease and deep awareness that followed led me into a

process that started to unravel deep seated emotional and

physical tension. This evolved over many years as I was

learning to take command of a body that had been totally

traumatized in the early years of my life. I was able to feel

my body down to my toes.

I slowly began to realize that this was not just about

singing but also healing on a very deep soul level and being

able to bring that awareness to others.

What do You Need to Hear?

Very often the inner wounded self can go through a

healing process, just from hearing the right lullaby sung

just for them. I make these up for people and my

accuracy has been pretty good.

Bio

Pianist/Vocalist Mariah Picot has spent her life in the arts.

A Bachelor of Music, in voice at Queens University,

Kingston, Ontario, and extensive theater training at CAST

[Centre for Actors Study in Toronto] in Toronto, and

Herbert Berghof Studio in NYC.” led to having her Equity

card for 17 years.

She eventually changed her focus to jazz piano

studies, and began performing in piano bars. Brought

to Florida in the late 90’s, Mariah began working solo, was a

member of “Steeplechase”, a jazz quartet with an emphasis

on vocal harmony and her own group, “The Mariah Picot

Trio” . She sings in five languages.

She has been the musical director since 1998 at

Unity Churches. In Panama City she wrote, directed and

co-produced two multimedia musical events.

In the spring of 2004, Mariah released her first

CD of original songs “Notes on the Bridge...”, with the Bill

Peterson Trio. She has a catalogue of about 50 tunes. She

has a music theater project in development ready to be

work shopped and a book “Soul Expression” about ready to find a publisher.

She has performed both in Canada and the USA

in concerts, festivals, churches clubs and corporate events.

She lives in Dallas where she is the music director

at a Unity church, accompanies music theater classes,

teaches privately, and does gigs with her trio.
