T HE PHILIPPINE Center for Investigative Journalism will be conducting a series of four four-day investigative reporting seminars in Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and Metro Manila from May-September 2015. Who Can Apply? Researchers, writers, reporters, anchors, producers, editors, news managers, contributors, and stringers of print, TV, radio, and online media Citizen media and bloggers covering public policy issues Seminar Topics By content peg: Elections, party politics, political clans, and political finance; Key development indicators and statistics; Openness, transparency, and access to information issues and challenges at the national and local government levels; Fundamentals of investigative reporting; Media ethics and safety. By skill set: Data journalism and investigative research methods; Organizing and connecting documents and data; Rendering the story; Reading budget documents and audit reports. Speakers to be invited include experts from constitutional commissions and agencies of the executive branch such as the Commission on Audit, Commission on Elections, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and/or the Department of Budget and Management; academic and research institutions; civil society groups; political parties; data repository agencies; and media organizations.     *Dates may still change depending on the availability of resource speakers.

    Funding

    There is no registration fee for the seminar. PCiJ will also cover: Round-trip transportation from the participants place of work and/or residence to the

    seminar venue. Board and lodging during the seminar.

    Application Requirements

    1. Completed application form (downloadable from www.pcij.org).Incomplete application forms will not be accepted.

    2. At least two work samples discussing public policy, development, human rights, or governance issues.

    - For print and online: link to the stories or copies of stories in Word or PDF- For TV and radio: link to the broadcast story; script or story concept/treatment sent via email as attachment; recording of TV or radio program/segment may also be sent to PCiJ.

  • Selection process

    Applicants will be selected based on the following criteria:

    Track record or experience covering public policy issues. Demonstrated interest in doing in-depth reportage of governance, development, and

    human rights issues. Potential for playing a key leadership role within the organization or media community.

    Successful applicants will be notified a week after the submission deadline. Only successful applicants will be contacted.
