January 24, 1848 when James W. Marshall discovered gold. News of his discovery brought over 300,000 people to the land, which developed overtime, and eventually became a part of the United States.

California’s name traces back to the discovery of gold in 1848. Ever since then, structures like the Golden Museum or the Golden Gate Bridge were named that way to honor California
