California was experiencing difficulties in establishment of civil society.
• From the conquest of 1846 the singing of the treaty the U.S administered California under international law.
• Feb 2 1848 all the Mexican territories north of the Rio Grande were given to the United States.
4. STRIKING IT RICH
• on January 24, 1848, when gold was found by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill, in
Coloma, California• Many Employees of Sutter
Mill began to leave there jobs so they could go to find gold
full time.• The Gold Rush was one of the
most significant events in California history. It brought
people from all over the United States and the world
in search for gold.

• John Augustus Envisioned an agricultural empire near the American River
• Wanted discovery of gold kept secret
• Never did appreciate the opportunities of the Gold Rush, and left California penniless
• James Wilson was commissioned to built a sawmill and found gold that lead to the gold rush.
• Public works created aqueducts ,powerplants , roadways and buildings.• With the gold rush it
made it possible for irrigation.
• The gold rush would stabilize the metropolitan infrastructure of the San
Francisco and LA.• It took over 6 years to
build the Los Angeles aqueduct

• The Japanese, Mexican American and African
American made its way to California.
• The population continued to grow until it reached
6.9 million.• Mexican Americans got
the blue-collar jobs but some were also send
back.• People that would come
to the America would become Americanized
after a short time.

• Stanford University was built in 1891.
• The Building of Stanford university inspired the
building of the university of Berkley Architect John
Galen Howard transformed the
university of Berkley.• Cities started to get build
in San Diego and San Fransisco.

• California remained closely connected
to the military.• The United States
become a global military power.
• California became closely connected
to the military

• The professor George Ellery Hale helped
organize the national scientific establishment.
• San Diego had a Marine Corps training depot.
• During the first World War the U.S contributed a
fair share of troops.• In 1914 the Navy established the Pacific
fleet.

California.• California supported the
American first movement and wanted to keep the
U.S out of war.• The attack on Pearl Harbor threw California
into a panic.• The Army Air corps established a number of
pilot and mechanic training.
