all of you to jump-in and par-ticipate in all aspects of the club. The Brittany is the holistic dog and the health of our breed is measured by the number Dual Champion awards. There are more Brittany Dual Champions than any other breed.

What is a Dual Champion? It is a dog that is an AKC Show Champion (CH) and an AKC

McDonald, Lynda Evans and Pennie Peter-son. FC Man About Town owned by Linda McDonald. CH Loki’s Blizzard OF Mischief owners Linda McDonald, Toni Avedissian and Nancy Schmeider and Shady’s The Price Is Right owned by Rocky Dennis and Antoinette Fabray for their successful year in field and show competition. We applauded Madison Renfree for her winning ways in Jr. Handling. Each received a certificate of accomplish-ment from the California Brittany Club.

We honored new AFC I M A Birdfindin’ Babe, owner Craig Lewis for her new Amateur Championship. We also honored DC AFC Terra’s Cabo Wabo owned by Tom White and Margaret Horstmeyer for his new Amateur title.

We honored 3 new Show Champions: CH Bur-fords What Was I Thinking JH for Lynda Evans and Katelyn Ford, DC AFC Terra’s Cabo Wabo owners Tom White and Margaret Horstmeyer and 2xAm FC DC AFC Redline’s Tequila Smoker owned by Bill and Cindy Lef-fingwell. Congratulations to these CBC mem-bers who are continuing to do their part for the Dual Brittany.

We honored Dakota’s Booker-T JH owned by Dakota Renfree & Brad Renfree along with CH Remington’s Arctic Legacy SH for owners Dale and Myra Dawn Ellis for their new Hunt-ing Test titles. Booker and Lacey were tie winners of the CBC Hunting Test Dogs for 2005. This tie is a First, I think, and we are very proud of them both.

We honored CH Swift River’s Destiny’s Child JH NA NAJ for her newly acquired agility titles and named her the CBC Agility Dog for 2005. She is owned and handled by Sharon Kalionzes. Co-owned by Pennie Peterson. Congratulations!!! All the hard work that Sharon has put into this really paid off.

We honored CH Tantara’s A Walk In The Park CD JH owned by Nancy Hewitt for a CD in obedience. While we were at it we hon-ored Nancy and Walker with the CBC Obedi-ence Dog for 2005. Nancy says, “Walker is a challenge and I love a good challenge.” We say, “Well done Nancy and Walker”.

We continued by honoring I M A Pocket Rocket owned and handled by Craig Lewis for their outstanding year in the field. Together they placed 15 times in field events. 6 of those placements were 1st place wins. “Rocket” was awarded the CBC Juvenile Dog

for 2005. Much congratulations goes to Craig and Rocky.

Our CBC Gun Dog for 2005 award goes to FC Quail Rock Tough Enough owned by Ellen Weinfurtner and handled by Paul Doiron (scouting by Peggy Doiron). “King” was the Top All Breed gun dog for 2005. He gar-nered 13 field placements, 9 of them firsts. 7 of those were consecutive. Way to go King!

The CBC All Age Dog for 2005 is DC AFC TJ’s Single Shot of Scipio. “Emme” finished the 2005 season with 20 field wins and placements in All Age stakes. Two of those were hour stakes. She was posted at the ABC Amateur All Age Nationals. Tom White and Margaret Horstmeyer own her. Con-gratulations to you all.

DC AFC Travelers Reign of Terra who is owned by Margaret Horstmeyer and Tom White finished the trial season with 18 field wins and placements. 3 of those were in 1-hour stakes to include the AKC Pointing Breed Gun Dog Championship. “Terra” is the winner of the CBC Field Dog for 2005 as well as the CBC Amateur Handled Dog for 2005. This is the third year in a row that Terra has won the Amateur Handled Dog of the year award. Congratulations Tom and Margaret.

We honored CH Sanbar’s Curtain Call JH owned by Agnes Rodrigues, Polly, Bob and Barbara West. He was the #1 Brittany for 2005 (Show), #5 Sporting Dog 2005 (Show), # 11 All-Breed (Show) 2005, BOB Summer Nat’l Specialty 2005 & BOB at Westminster 2005. Among the many BOB and Group wins he was able to count, under the CBC rules for these awards, he was able to include 4 Best In Shows. If memory serves me, he had 11 Best In Shows for 2005. “Jonnie” is once again our CBC Show Dog for 2005. What a ride!!!

Our Jr Handlers always hold a special place in the CBC and we honored Katelyn Ford as the CBC Show Jr Handler for 2005. Katelyn has won several BOB and BOS with “Ashley”. She co-owns her with Lynda Evans. Katelyn has also won a Best JR Handler and is cur-rently working hard to earn her way to Westminster. Dakota Renfree is the recipi-ent of the CBC Field JR Handler for 2005. Dakota competes with “Booker” in many field events. She is often seen running Booker in the same stakes as the adult handlers. She has earned 5 field placements and a JR Hunter title during the 2005 season. We

take our hats off to both girls as they are great competitors and the CBC is so proud of them.

All of the winners of the CBC 2005 awards were given a certificate of achievement and a 3rd year limited edition hooded and zip-pered sweatshirt with a quail and award re-ceived a long with the year, embroidered on the front.

Saving the highest awards for last, the Dual Award winners were given wooden boxes with an embroidered Quail and award name on the top. They also received certificates of achievement. Of course they received much applause and congratulations for a very good year.

Dakota Renfree earned the Dual JR Handler for 2005. This is the 3th year in a row that she has won this award. Dakota works hard in the field and on her showing skills. Be-sides competing in the field, going to school and helping to train the field dogs, she finds time to compete in the show ring. A dedi-cated DUAL enthusiast. We applaud all of her efforts. Congratulations Dakota.

Our Dual Dog for 2005 is DC AFC Terra’s Cabo Wabo owned by Tom White and Marga-ret Horstmeyer. “Sammy” earned his Field title in January, his Amateur Field title in May and his Show title in July. Busy boy!!! His field wins were in open and amateur and included an hour stake. He finished his Show Championship under the able hands of Linda McDonald. Congratulations to Tom and Mar-garet, who do everything possible to pre-serve the Dual Brittany. The CBC salutes you.

I would like to thank my committee for all of their hard work and dedication to making this event as nice, for everyone, as possible. They are: Rich & Helen Harbour, Sharon Kalionzes, Myra Dawn Ellis and Bob Woelm. They are the best!!! I also would like to thank the membership for all the work they do the through out the year (year after year) in the many, many jobs it takes to have the successful and fun club that we enjoy. Some small, some large, none forgotten.

New members … Have questions about the counting of points or where to get that score sheet? Just ask most any member. They will know how to help you. Until next July … keep tabulating your points. You might be the winner next year!

We enjoyed a warm but fun sum-mer. We celebrated our 2005 CBC Achievement Award winners to-gether sharing great food and friendship. Recently we spent a really fun day with our Brittanys at the Willi Match. Both events were sure smile producers! We hope you find reliving the celebrations with photos and write ups in this issue entertaining. Myra-Dawn has de-signed another wonderful collage of photos so look for yourself, your dog, and all the fun in the park!

Please take note of the dogs at the top of the “On Point” banner on the front page... Jonnie is there as the 2005 Show Dog of the year, and Sammy is our Dual Dog of ‘05. Con-gratulations to their owners/breeders/trainers and handlers on

their out-standing successes for the year.

The final competition for the Eu-kanuba Dog Show is coming to Long Beach in December. We will have one of our own competing in Junior Showmanship ... Katelyn Ford. It would be wonderful to have lots of our members come watch and sup-port her with cheers. She has writ-ten a little piece about what it took to get invited ... take a minute and read all about it in this issue!! We wish her all the best luck and to have a good time and enjoy the ex-perience.

The CBC Fall Field trial is soon upon us and we wish all participants the best of luck at our trial, and those that follow. The Hunting Test will

be coming soon too, and we hope those of you who have not experienced any field type event will be able to come out for at least one of the two weekend days and see what all this “field stuff” is about. It’s a real treat to see our dogs do what they were bred for, and it’s a great opportu-nity to learn a little about trials/hunt tests. They ALWAYS need people to volunteer to help, and there are ALWAYS jobs to do. Vol-unteers are always needed and wel-come! It’s rewarding and fun to do...

Enjoy the issue, and have a wonder-ful Fall/Winter! Sharon

The Willi Match on August 20th at Rush Park was a great success. This year we had over 75 people attend the

match. The weather was hot but not as bad as last year. It was great to have so many new faces as well as some new juniors. It really was a fun club day.

The day started off by getting our mo-tor home to the Park at 6:30am so that we were sure to get the right spot for our event. The set up went very smoothly and the ring and displays went up without a hitch with the hard work of Joe Ramondetta. At 8:30am Pennie Peterson and Lynda Evans did the Grooming and Handling seminar. The

seminar was fantastic and several peo-ple watched carefully as they learned how to groom and show their dogs. Thank you so much ladies for sharing your talent at the Willi Match. A spe-cial thank you goes out to Rozanne Woelm and Helen Harbour for handling registration. Again this year they did a fantastic job. This year, at registra-tion, we added four new CBC member-ships. Rozanne was also responsible for securing the permit for Rush Park, what a great place to have the Willi Match - Thanks. Bob Woelm was the Willi Match janitor by cleaning up the

grounds prior to the match so that our dogs would have a pristine ring to show in. It was a real pleasure to have Eileen Weston as our judge this year. She really took the time and provided guid-ance to the juniors and amateur show-

man. A very special thank you goes out to Eileen for volunteering her Sunday for the California Brittany Club.

This year we had plenty of food. As the Willi Match was finishing with best of breed you could hear the stomachs growling. At least I hope that was stomachs and not people growling at me trying my hand at being the Ring Stew-art. Boy did I learn a lot doing that job. The food was really great. We had a little bit of everything on the table.

I hope that everyone had a fun day at the Willi Match. This type of event really makes the CBC stand out as a premier club. Congratulations to every-one.

I’ll give you an orientation and get you connected with members that will try to make sense of what’s going on. During the trip of my first visit to a CBC trial as we traveled down dirt roads in the rain, I looked at my wife Margaret and seriously asked, “Do you really want to do this?” She nodded affirmatively and we continued to the trial. Getting involved at the local, re-gional and national level has changed our lives for the better. Attend the trial and start to enjoy another aspect of the Brittany world. Tom White CBC President

Qualifying for the AKC Eukanuba National Cham-pionship has taken much

determination, but I did it. The qualifica-tions for Eukanuba states that a junior han-dler between the age of 9 and 18 needs two consecutive semesters of a 3.0 or higher grade point average before the closing date of entries and 5 first place wins from a Jun-iors Showmanship Open Class with competi-tion between the dates of October 12, 2005 and October 10, 2006.

In August of 2005 I thought about what I wanted to achieve as a junior handler. I made it my goal to qualify for Eukanuba and for the Westminster dog shows. I easily kept my grades up and earned two semesters of a 3.3 GPA last school year.

My qualifying first place wins to date are: 10/23/05 - Del Valle Dog Club of Livermore at Pleasanton with CH Burfords What Was I Thinking JH “Ashley” who is owned by Lynda Evans and myself. 10/24/05 - Again with Ashley. That day I also won Best Junior Handler. 12/19/05 - KC of Beverly Hills at Long Beach with CH Loki's Blizzard of Michief

I also won Best Junior Handler that day. 7/8/06 - Santa Maria KC at Ventura with Crissy and Best Junior Handler over 45 jun-ior handlers. 8/13/06 - South Bay KC at Torrance with Crissy. This year the AKC Eukanuba National Cham-pionship dog show will be held in December at the Long Beach Convention Center. I am very excited to go and will show either Ash-ley or Crissy. As for Westminster I need a total of 10 first places from December 5, 2005 and November 27, 2006 to qualify. To date I need four more and I am trying my hardest.

money female in the show winning the Dual Dog Award in the futurity. “T” was handled in the ring by Linda McDonald. Both dogs are owned/bred and handled (in the field) by Craig. Congratulations!

Suggestions for Judges CBC Membership,

Nancy Anderson, the ABC National Show Chairperson is asking for a list the names of any judges that you would to see judge the ABC National Specialty, Best of Breed and Sweepstakes. Please write a short comment

on each judge, why you like this judge, what this judge has to offer, etc. I will forward the show and sweep judges to her.

Also please write down a few names of Field judges that you would like to see judge our CBC trials. This list will be sent to the CBC 1st VP.

If needed, use an additional sheet of paper to submit names. We will keep these lists to help us in the future to get judges that appeal to our membership.

Please return your lists to me by either email or mail. Nancy Hewitt 14441 Cabell Ave.

Bellflower, CA 90706 or [email protected]

Thank You for taking the time to help us secure the best judges for our dogs. Nancy Hewitt

Purina Points Program

American Brittany Rescue has joined the Purina Points Program which allows us to obtain vouchers for vet care for dogs in rescue, from Purina simply by saving the weight circles that can be located on the side of the Purina dog food bag. The program is fairly simple, save weight circles from participat-ing brands of Purina Dog Foods, and when enough are obtained, submit them for anything from a $75 vet voucher up to a $500 voucher. This is an easy way for ABR to reduce the cost of vet care for some of our higher cost areas such as heartworm treatments. If you or anyone you know already uses one of these brands, please consider sav-ing the weight circles for ABR.

Nelsen at 951-734-5348 or [email protected] Young Dog Available... Karen Nelsen has a young broke gundog named “Chick” from her Nelle/Duke litter that is available to a good hunting home. He was professionally trained by Jimmy Rice. His owner died and the family prefers that the dog be placed in a hunting home. He would also make an excellent show prospect. Please contact Karen at [email protected] or phone 951-734-5348 for infor-mation.

6 o/w pups (3 males, 3 females) born 8/19/06 to sire: Tule River’s Wicked Ale and dam: FC Kizmet. Both parents OFA good. For more information contact Bill Landress at 559-333-0508 or email him at [email protected] Pups were born August 13 … they will be 8 weeks on October 8 and can go to their homes then. FC Shiloh's Whoa Nellie MH, “Nelle” gave birth to five puppies. The proud dad is DC AFC 2XAm FC Redline's Tequila Smoker. At this point, two boys are available, pend-ing my pick. Please contact Karen

used the same as a check by the participating vets. This program could help us reduce the cost of some treatments by a third or more allowing us to help even more dogs on our limited funds. If you use Purina already and want to help, please send the weight cir-cles form your bags to; Sharlene Aloise 847 W. Laguna Ct. Villa Hills, KY 41017 Although we can also accept weight circles from cat food we can not combine them with the dog program for the vouchers. However, we can collect them to redeem for cat food coupons which can be sent to those who need and can use them.

Participating brands of Purina Dog Foods include; Purina Pro Performance - ea lb worth 12 pts Purina One or Purina Pro - ea lb worth 11 pts Hi Pro, Purina Dog Chow or Puppy Chow - ea lb worth 8 pts It can be any size bag, flavor or variety of these brands such as senior, weight control, etc. So if you buy a 20 lb bag of Purina Pro lamb and rice, it would give us 220 points towards a voucher. A 20 lb bag of Purina Dog Chow would give us 160 points and so on.

Vet vouchers can be obtained when we receive as few as 7500 points. This level gives us the $75 vet voucher, 15,000 points gives us $150 voucher and so on. These vouchers are made out directly to the vet doing the treatment and are
