Principal’s Message
Our school vision is “to be a safe and caring community, who learn and grow together to make a difference for us
and our world. Our school is full of communities, we have grade communities, year level communities, team
communities, teacher communities, Education Support communities, administration communities, parent
communities, the Grubbies community, the School Council and sub-committee communities, all communities with
the same shared vision. As a whole community we want our students, parents and staff to feel safe, to care and be
cared for. Our vision is to ensure the academic, social and emotional growth of every student. As a school we are
helping the next generation to be the best they can be, to be honest and fair, to be responsible, to support, to care
about and co-operate with each other, to be friendly, to respect the rights of everyone and see differences as
positive and helpful, as well as caring for our environment. As a community our value statements are recorded, they
are displayed in classrooms. I see the actions that come from our school values on a daily bases. In the mornings
when students smile and say good morning, the parent who waves or has a chat, being friendly. The children who in
challenging situations are able to reflect on a ‘not so good choice’ and take responsibility for their actions. The staff
who support our children every day, providing them with feedback, praising successes and providing support with
the next stage of learning and then there is the effort put into our school grounds by our parent community. As a
staff we have been inquiring into how we collaborate as a professional learning team. All teaching teams supported
by a Learning Specialist, Rachel Gurr Foundation and Year 1, Julie Stephens Year 2, Hayley Horne Years 3 and 4 with
Hayley Merat supporting Years 5 and 6 work on providing each student with a challenging and engaging curriculum.
All specialist teachers work with a team to ensure consistency of practise and shared expectations. I attend planning
sessions where work samples are examined, looking for evidence of students mastering the learning goal and
success criteria. I hear teachers discussing what actions they need to take when a student has mastered an
understanding and needs a further challenge, as well as the support which will be provided for those students who
require it.
All staff will be involved in a curriculum day tomorrow, focussed on further developing their pedagogy focused on
mathematical researched based practises. Rachel Gurr and Hayley Merat will share the professional learning they
have undertaken participating in the Primary Mathematics and Science Initiative.
Can I ask that any student who brings a mobile phone to school hand it in at the office. Mobile phones can be lost
and are not to be used during school hours.
Thank you to those parents who have shared information in regards to the challenges faced with Sentral. I have
communicated all concerns and am looking forward to meeting with a representative to fine tune the use of the tool
and communication. Thank you so much for your patience during this stage of introducing the new system for
communication.
I hope everyone stays a little warmer over the weekend.

Cooking and Gardening - FB
On Thursday the 25th of July Jake’s class, FB, had their second cooking and gardening session. In the kitchen the children made some delicious veggie fritters and yummy corn fritters with a tzatziki dip and pikelets for dessert. In the garden they visited the chickens, helped out with some garden maintenance and planted some winter seeds. I caught up with the children after the session and they had the following to say about their morning:
‘I liked spreading the jam on the pancakes.’ Lachlan ‘I liked cooking food. I grated zucchini then I squished it to get all the water out.’ Remy ‘I was brushing the bench outside because we wanted it to be nice and tidy for when we were eating pancakes.’ Caleb ‘I liked sweeping because there were lots and lots of leaves.’ Madeleine ‘My favourite bit was eating the pikelets. We had to mix it.’ Emmaline ‘I liked sweeping because it’s tidying up.’ Eiman ‘I had to squeeze some lemons and I put it in the bowl and mixed it.’ Nha-Thi ‘I liked flipping the fritters. It was fun to work in the kitchen.’ Arlo ‘The most thing I liked to do was flipping the pancakes. I made a frog one.’ Abdurahman ‘I liked feeding the chickens. I felt happy.’ Heidi ‘I liked sweeping outside because I like sweeping leaves off the deck to eat there. Benji ‘I planted peas in the garden. They’ll grow into plants and make pea and we can cook them and eat them.’ Chloe ‘I planted some seeds. They were peas. I put them in a thing that’s a circle that’s made of like hay. You put your finger in the soil and make a hole and put the seed in it.’ Imogen ‘I liked feeding the chickens the seeds. I also liked the pikelets with jam on them.’ Logan ‘I liked looking at the pikelets because they looked so yummy. I even liked eating them.’ Intisar ‘I liked eating. I liked eating the pikelets with jam.’ Bryce ‘I liked cooking. I put the egg inside it and we stirred it and we had to flip it down so we can taste it.’ Amina ‘I liked cooking the pancakes. I liked watching them bubble.’ Luke ‘I was picking up rubbish. It’s looking after the environment. Then we had a break to play on the monkey bars.’ Elizea Thanks so much to Caleb’s’ mum and Sarah from 5-6B for coming along to help us.

Student Supervision
For 20 minutes before school and fifteen minutes after school, and during all recess breaks, there are teachers in the yard to supervise student play. Students are not to be in the school grounds before 8:40am when teacher supervision begins or after 3:45pm when supervision ends. Teachers on yard duty wear fluorescent vests so students can quickly identify them. If it is too wet or hot for the students to play outside, yard duty teachers share the supervision of the students in classrooms. Students are not permitted to be in classrooms when the teacher is not in attendance. The office will ring the parents of the students who have not been collected by this time. We ask that families leave the school grounds by 3:45pm as our OHSC program has begun and often leads to confusion with extra children in the school grounds.
