The days are getting brighter and warmer, and what better time than spring to enjoy the outdoors with a book from your local library or a stroll along one of Kingston’s historical walking trails, using the guide on your phone as you go?

Throughout September, October and November, Kingston Libraries have planned a range of exciting and informative activities for people of all ages. From new online language courses to our regular monthly tea and technology club and the annual Ink About It children’s writing competition, our libraries continue to offer great activities for the Kingston community.

We have also planned some exciting events as part of the 2016 Kingston Seniors Festival, including an appearance from Gardening Australia’s Jane Edmanson, a class on how to access Skype on your iPad, and more.

Paul co-authored Hell on the Way to Heaven (with Chrissie Foster). His forthcoming book Fifteen Young Men tells the story of the football team that never made it home from Mordiallac following a boating accident in 1892.

Local vocal quartet The Hot Flushes are performing a selection of popular songs and show tunes at Cheltenham Library this October.

As their name suggests, The Hot Flushes are a group of mature women singing songs that they have grown up with, presenting in a relaxed and fun-filled format. They have been singing together as a group since 2002.

This is a presentation on how to get started with your family history research at Kingston Libraries.

GARDENING AUSTRALIA’S JANE EDMANSONCheltenham Library Thursday 6 October 2-3pm

Kingston Libraries welcomes Gardening Australia’s Victorian presenter, Jane Edmanson. Jane is a qualified teacher, who also has certificates in horticulture and landscape technology and takes garden tours to many places around the world. She has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal for educational and sustainable work in horticulture and the environment.

Mordialloc-born Maree Coote is the author of The Melbourne Book: A History of Now, which is sometimes referred to as ‘Melbourne’s Bible’.

Join Maree for an entertaining hour of anecdotes from her much-loved collection of stories of Melbourne’s past and present.

Would you like to learn how to video call your friends or family using Skype? Learn how to use Skype on an iPad in this hands-on workshop.

From Saturday 17 September to Sunday 2 October, Kingston Libraries will be running holiday activities at a variety of its branches. Some of the activities include preschool ballet workshops at Cheltenham Library, a photography workshop, movies and crafts. All Kingston Libraries will be closed for the AFL Grand Final public holiday on Friday 30 September and the Melbourne Cup public holiday on Tuesday 1 November. Return chutes will continue to operate at all Library branches.
