Grade 2

Our CAFÉ focus this week is Expand Vocabulary: Use words parts to determine the meaning of words. Students have been looking at the beginning and endings of words (prefixes and suffixes) to decode the meaning. We have been prompting the students by asking if they know any part of a word that they don’t know the meaning of while reading.

During Inquiry this week we have been looking at the Wetlands. Children have enjoyed looking at pictures, discussing animals that are found in this habitat and completing habitat fact files using the iPads.

Just a reminder of some dates for the calendar: Friday 2nd December - School Christmas Concert - the Grade 2 students are looking forward to sharing their performances! Tuesday 6th December - Whole school transition day. Thursday 15th December - Talent Quest. Grade 3 Welcome to Week 8!

Students are thoroughly enjoying creating their projects in class and are working hard at the challenge of putting their research into their own words. We look forward to their presentations which will begin next week.

Please remind your child to complete their Mathletics tasks. These are set every Monday morning.

Children are very excited about the Christmas Concert next Friday and have been working hard on their performance. We look forward to seeing you there! Congratulations to the recipients of AR Certificates for this week: Kim R, Stella W, Bryce A, Sarah A, Eden B, Will F, Lila H, Maia H, Neve K, Oscar K, Shrish K, Isabella MW, Bianca M, Ronan M, Miguel P, Jet W and Seb B. Grade 4 Hello parents and families. It’s Sylvia, Becky and Flynn from 4M. We would like to inform you about what has been happening in Grade 4 this week. We have been working on some excellent narratives and have been focusing on building marvellous phrases and editing our punctuation.

We have also been learning about synonyms and antonyms. Did you know that synonyms are words with similar meanings and antonyms are words with opposite meanings?

This week the Grade 4s went and looked at the Grade 5/6s Space projects. We took notes on things that inspired us for next year.

WHAT’S HAPPENING?

LOST PROPERTY There is always an enormous amount of lost property in the area outside Mr Anderson’s office. Teachers have discussed with the children about not leaving hats and jackets on the ground where they are playing, but to at least put them at their classroom door.

We have also had parents mention that they are unable to locate lost item of clothing in lost property. Please check the names on the jackets/hats that your child brings home to ensure that they have not inadvertently brought home someone else’s clothing. Prep Wow! The weeks are just flying by lately! We continue to be amazed with how far the Preps have come both academically and socially this year. Transition sessions for next year’s Preps has already begun. This will continue the next two Tuesdays.

Our CAFÉ focus this week was ‘flip the sound’ in which we explored letters that have two sounds and introduced the ‘magic e’. Next week our focus is ‘recognising and reading tables and maps in a text’.

This week was the last week for Literacy rotations. Thank you so much to all of our dedicated helpers, you have been fantastic!

Next Wednesday we have a St Johns Ambulance First Aid course. Show and Tell is ‘free choice’ and is on this Friday. Please remind your child to only bring one item.

There is no buddy session this week as the Grade 6 children are participating in ‘STOMP’ dance lessons. Grade 1 We are all getting excited about next Thursday’s excursion! Thank you for your quick return of Notices. We are still waiting on a small hand full to be returned.

We have been overwhelmed with volunteers, but unfortunately are not able to take everyone. For this reason we have drawn all parent helpers for the day at random. If you have not yet heard please check with your child’s teacher.

Thank you also to those of you have brought in shoeboxes for our under the sea diorama activity Please keep sending them in!

To celebrate the end of another school year the Grade 1 students will be participating in a gift giving activity with their peers. Students will draw a name out of a hat before the end of this week, to find out who their gift will be for. Please look out for this notice, which will be going home next Monday.
