Exo 12:18 In the first month,on the fourteenth day

....at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread until the One and Twentieth day

"In the evening" In the Hebrew, would be said:"bain hahaarbayim" literally translated "between the evenings”. This phrase suggests the time, a point between the sun's declining in the west and its setting, (approx. 3:00 p.m.).Within the temple the day was divided into quarters.

The quarter between 12:00 noon and 3:00 p.m. was called the minor evening oblation, while that between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. was called the major evening oblation. Therefore, "between the evenings" means between those two periods or approx 3:00 p.m.

The hours were counted from daylight / sunrise till sundown / sunset - dark, end evening nautical twilight

The ninth hour when Yahshua was slain would therefore be approx. 3 p.m., the same time the lamb had been slain in Egypt.

"Rosh HaShanah and the Messianic Kingdom to Come" Hatikva Ministries 1989, Joseph Good.

“Clocks” as we use today were not in use at the time of our forefathers. They had their methods of time keeping, Sun Dials, Water Clocks, Candle Clocks, it was not as we use today, to the minute or to the second

These 14 days we pray and Study to prepare for the Passoverso that we may be Sanctified in order to take the feast

see: diagram aboveExo 12:3 Tell the whole community of Israel:On the tenth day ofthis month each man must take a lamb or a young goat for his family, one animal per household. 12:6 and ye shall keep it until the fourteenth dayof the same month; and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall..... kill it at even.

    Watches of night

The Temple system divided the night into military watches instead of hours, each watch representing the period for which sentinels or pickets remained on duty.

Originally only three such watches, entitled the first, Lam 2:19 "beginning of the watches,” the middle watch, Jud 7:19 and the morning watch. Ex 14:24; 1Sa 11:11 These would last respectively from sunset to 10 P.M.; from 10 P.M. to 2 A.M.; and from 2 A.M. to sunrise.

After the establishment of the Roman supremacy, the number of watches increased to four, which were described either according to their numerical order, as in the case of the "fourth watch," Mt 14:25 or by the terms "even," "midnight," "cock-crowing" and "morning.”Mrk 13:35. These terminated respectively at9 P.M., Midnight, 3 A.M. and 6 A.M.

  • The first month is determined from the New Moonnearest to the Spring Equinox. The method of determining theFirst month of the year is that the Passover periodon the 15 must fall on or after the Equinox. If it fall before the Equinox add the 13th month.

Genesis 1:14 tells us that the sun and moon(a solar-lunar calendar) are for “signs and for seasons(mo’ed=time(s); season(s); festival(s); assembly)and for days and years

The New Moon is central to the system of worshipas laid down in the calendar. It needs to be kept correctly as a day of worshipand assembly as are the Sabbaths and Feasts. This understanding is central to the understandingof the Plan of Salvation(1Sam.20:5,18 Isa. 66:23 Eze.46:1-3)

Sacrifice is not the issue as it was fulfilled in MessiahObedience is the issue (Jer. 7:22-24; Heb.10:1-6)

The Feasts are dependent upon the New Moons andnot the reverse

Num 9:10-13 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If any man of you or of your generations shall be unclean by reason of a dead body, or be on a journey afar off, yet he shall keep the passover unto Jehovah. In the SECOND MONTH on the FOURTEENTH day AT EVEN they shall keep it; they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs: they shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break a bone thereof: according to all the statute of the passover they shall keep it. But the man that is clean, and is not on a journey, and forbeareth to keep the passover, that soul shall be cut off from his people; because he offered not the oblation of Jehovah in its appointed season, that man shall bear his sin.

Lev 23:26-32 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, Howbeit on the TENTH DAY of this SEVENTH MONTH is the DAY OF ATONEMENT: it shall be a HOLY CONVOCATION unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls;and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto Jehovah. And ye shall do NO MANNER OF WORK in that same day; for it is a DAY of ATONEMENT, to make atonement for you before Jehovah your God. For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day; he shall be cut off from his people. And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any manner of work in that same day, that soul will I destroy from among his people. Ye shall do no manner of work: it is a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. It shall be unto you a Sabbath of solemn rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the NINTH DAY OF THE MONTH AT EVEN, FROM EVEN UNTO EVEN, shall ye keep your Sabbath.
